Chapter 39: The Gamble's Verdict

It was actually Yukin! Jiang Xiang seethed inwardly.

Today had already been unlucky enough. He never dreamed he’d run into this woman in another world.

At Mystic City No. 7 Middle School, Jiang Xiang dared not provoke a few people. Yukin topped that list.

Back when he first enrolled, Jiang Xiang tried to flirt with a senior girl. He blocked her after school. But she turned out to be Xueyin’s friend—and called Yukin for help.

Within half an hour, black Mercedes arrived. Men in suits emerged. They took Jiang Xiang and his buddies to an abandoned factory in Songjiang, a Mystic City suburb. The others got off lightly. Jiang Xiang was beaten badly. Then locked inside for a whole week—missing school entirely.

Later, his parents knelt outside a venerable Mystic City artist’s home. Money meant nothing. They could only beg desperately. The white-haired elder finally intervened, contacting the Baiye family to settle things. Only then was Jiang Xiang released.

He got beaten half to death by his father upon returning home…

Yukin was a true top-tier heiress of Shanghai’s elite. Jiang Xiang’s nouveau riche parents didn’t even qualify to meet the Baiye family.

That incident haunted Jiang Xiang’s arrogant life. But with his low smarts and poor memory, he forgot it after Xueyin “went abroad.”

Now, he met her here. In this lawless other world, Yukin was even stronger. The gap felt wider than in Mystic City. Killing him would take just a flick of her wrist.

“Damn it! I’ve fallen into this woman’s hands again! Why? She’s just a woman—how can she be so powerful? Unforgivable!” Jiang Xiang gnashed his teeth inside. Yet he forced himself to shout: “S-Senior Sister Yukin… it’s a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding! We’re both from Mystic City. Please spare me this once?”

“Who are you? Which class?” Yukin recalled the abandoned camp during her Leviathan battle. She’d seen fellow No. 7 Middle students there. This didn’t surprise her—they weren’t the first batch to arrive in this world.

Jiang Xiang, feared even by seniors at school, was unknown to her.

“Unforgivable! She doesn’t even remember ordering my punishment. Yukin, you’re so high and mighty even here. One day, when I surpass you, I’ll kill you!” Jiang Xiang raged inwardly. But he swallowed his pride. Her kick had shattered his bones—he couldn’t fight back.

“I’m Jiang Xiang from Class 1-5, Senior Sister. I was wrong earlier. We’re both from Earth. Spare my life, please.” His swollen face twitched as he spoke, thick resentment leaking through.

“Senior Sister?” Yukin’s gaze turned icy in the shadowed light. “Do you think I won’t kill you just because we’re from the same world?”

“What!?” In that instant, killing intent radiated from Yukin’s eyes. A chill shot down Jiang Xiang’s spine.

Thud! Yukin’s high heel sent a crescent-shaped shockwave of Spirit Energy slamming into Jiang Xiang’s abdomen and legs. He skidded across the ground, carving a trench in the dirt.

Crash! He smashed into a tree and went unconscious.

Yukin swept a disdainful glance at Jiang Xiang’s limp form beneath the tree. Then she turned and left.

Scum like him wasn’t worth killing.

Still, Jiang Xiang would never trouble girls again.

Night fell slowly. A faint blue mist draped the camp.

Campfires crackled. Girls cooked wild chickens. Many classmates, hungry all day, drooled.

“Class rep!” Zhang Da knelt before You Xun like a triad thug, accepting his loss. “We lost.”

You Xun hurried to lift him. “Zhang Da, we’re classmates. No need for this. Get up.”

“No! Class rep, yesterday Jiang Xiang treated you badly. We didn’t stop him—we even egged him on. But today, you healed our wounds. I’m truly sorry!” Zhang Da kowtowed loudly.

You Xun lowered her head, gentle and saintly. Her slender hands lifted Zhang Da. But in her eyes flashed a hidden glint.

“You think I truly wanted to heal you? You despicable spoiled brats disgust me. Sharing a class with you is vile. I just… enjoy saving wastes like you with kindness and grace.”

Jiang Xiang still hadn’t returned.

Lin Luo remained calm—the outcome was expected. Zhang Da followed Jiang Xiang’s arrogance, yet had principles. He knew right from wrong. Lin Luo gave a silent nod.

“Lin Luo…”

Firelight painted Han Lianfei’s soft, beautiful face with a faint blush. She hadn’t forgotten the bet.
