"Who?!" The old king looked at the decapitated forest goddess in shock, especially as he watched her body quickly plummeting to the ground. He turned around abruptly and saw the snapped bow in Talisa's hands, her face a picture of confusion!
She had actually shot down the forest goddess?!
"Roar—!" The forest goddess's body hit the ground, and a group of tree people let out mournful cries before going mad and charging towards the walls of Gaer City. The largest tree person whipped out several massive vines towards the old king.
"Swoosh—!"
The old king sliced through the thick vine with his sword, then sent a golden sword aura to repel the old tree person, quickly retreating to the top of the city wall.
The death of a forest goddess could not end this battle. The real challenge was the endless horde of monsters that lay ahead!
"This is the second arrow!" Bexia handed the freshly sharpened wooden arrow to the still bewildered Talisa.
"The forest goddess is dead! I actually shot her down!" Talisa grabbed Bexia's shoulder, with a hint of uncertainty in her voice.
"Enough! The situation is not over. Can't you see that massive army of monsters? Unless we deal with them, Gaer City won't hold!" Bexia said calmly.
"Oh! Right!" Talisa quickly took the wooden arrow and a new longbow. She hesitated, unsure how to proceed since the target had shifted from a single forest goddess to a group of monsters.
"Aim for the sky." Feeling Talisa's gaze on her, Bexia looked up and calmly uttered the words.
"Oh!" Talisa nodded in response, aimed the wooden arrow towards the sky, and watched it disappear.
"Hey! Where did it go?" Talisa craned her neck, peering into the sky but finding nothing.
"Boom—!" Suddenly, a thunderous roar rang out, and the bright sky was quickly overtaken by dark clouds. The swirling clouds transformed into a vortex, with lightning serpents crackling within.
"Crack—!" A thunderbolt struck from the sky, landing amidst the swarm of monsters. It created a vacuum zone, reducing weaker monsters to ashes and turning the stronger ones into charred remains!
One thunderbolt might not have made a significant impact, but a series of lightning strikes changed the game. No matter how many monster armies came, they were just walking into their own deaths under the relentless barrage of lightning!
Thunderbolts were a terrifying force, with destructive power that most beasts in the forest feared. Even though the wild creatures lacked intelligence, they feared death. The sight of so many monsters perishing under the thunderbolts triggered a mass retreat among the survivors.
As many monsters began to flee, the pressure on Gaer City rapidly decreased. In the areas covered by the thunderclouds, there was no need for defense as no monster could pass through the forbidden zone!
"We won! We did it!" Talisa watched the retreating monsters, feeling so elated that she gave Bexia a bear hug.
"Don't get carried away, we haven't finished with the third arrow yet," Bexia said expressionlessly, pushing Talisa's face to the side.
"Why bother sharpening it if the monster army ran away!" Talisa was displeased with Bexia's indifferent tone. How could they not celebrate such a victory?
"Are you sure you don't want this arrow?" Bexia looked at Talisa with an inquiring gaze, making her pause and think. Bexia's actions seemed mysterious, and giving her three arrows must have a purpose.
"Go ahead and sharpen it!" Though she initially wanted to decline, Talisa reconsidered. After a moment, she couldn't help but ask, "Are there more enemies?"
"Yes, you're incredibly clueless!" With a slight increase in speed, Bexia quickly crafted another wooden arrow, handing it to Talisa before gesturing towards a large river on the other side of Gaer City.
"Are you asking me to shoot the river god?" Talisa suddenly woke up from her daze.
"Both the beast god and the forest goddess are dead. With them gone, the forest should no longer pose a threat, right?" Bexia inquired.
"That's true!" Talisa nodded instinctively, realizing that the vast forest could provide abundant resources and food for Gaer City!
"I doubt the river god is a benevolent being, right?" Bexia asked again.
"Indeed, the river god often allows attacks on the residents of Gaer City, even though we are near a water source, fetching water is not easy!"
"Why don't you shoot it then?"
"Oh!" Talisa immediately strung her bow and arrow, but hesitated to release the shot.
"Where should I aim? The river god hasn't shown itself."
"Just shoot anywhere."
"Got it!" Talisa nodded and shot the wooden arrow towards the river. The arrow spiraled with a fierce gust, displacing rocks and vegetation along its path before piercing into the river.
"Boom—!" A towering wave erupted from the river, dyeing the surroundings in red. A hundred-meter-long giant crocodile floated belly up, a bloody hole on its head, unmistakably lifeless!
A sudden silence blanketed the walls of Gaer City, followed swiftly by a roar of jubilation!
