The forest's interior was entirely suffused in an absolute pitch-black darkness.
A sphere of light emitting a faint blue glow floated around Luo Ning.
Only after his second stumble, his wife finally showed a semblance of 'concern' for him.
"You would think…since you command such a mastery of magic, you could have easily bestowed upon me a levitation spell to reach our destination swiftly," murmured Luo Ning.
He finally understood the disparity between himself, a mere human, against demons.
Physically, he was beginning to feel exhausted.
After all, the limitations of humans are undeniable.
"I've attempted several times; my magic seems ineffective on you," said Lilulu.
As Lilulu guided the way ahead, she tried her best to clear the uneven tree roots beneath their feet. However, Luo Ning's night vision remained subpar. Thus, he often found himself tripping over obscure objects on their path.
"That can't be," Luo Ning argued from behind her. "Even if the power of 'the oath' constraints you, I believe augmentation magic should work fine on me."
Effortlessly, Lilulu brushed aside a tree branch obstructing her path.
She was hesitant about revealing the truth to Luo Ning.
Should she explain that his immunity extends to all forms of her magic…?
But informing him of his impenetrable magic barrier might instigate scenarios beyond Lilulu's control.
"The 'power of the oath' you mentioned is foreign to me," she commented.
Carefully deliberating, Lilulu finally decided to hold her peace.
At the very least, she wanted to verify which magic Luo Ning was immuned against.
To divert his attention, Lilulu subtly steered the conversation away from the topic. Albeit with the aid of his magical guide light, Luo Ning barely made out the path ahead. After multiple falls, he tread very cautiously.
"An oath… a vow that can't be broken. Isn't that a universal rule in this world?" Luo Ning questioned.
His inquiry was met with surprise from Lilulu.
"Rule? Never heard of it."
"Right, you demons probably disdain to swear any oaths. Hence, your ignorance is understandable," Luo Ning accepted.
By a stroke of luck, the demon had summoned him, leaving her obligated to fulfill their matrimonial oath.
Under normal circumstances, expecting a supreme demon to comply willingly would be preposterous.
Lilulu, who led the way, remained noncommittal.
For now, she couldn't fathom the 'power of the oath' Luo Ning alluded to.
Should they just write it off as an ability of the god of creation?
This world doesn't abide by a rule that oaths must be kept, as there are too many creatures filled with deceit, humans being the greatest culprits.
Yet, the one thing Lilulu was certain about was her utter inability to resist any oath sworn by the god of creation.
Lilulu's pigtails bobbed as she pranced along the path.
Her diminutive legs made for nimble steps.
Unlike the previous days, she no longer floated. Instead, she walked firmly on the muddy track, potentially clearing any hazards in Luo Ning's way.
Luo Ning was tempted to grip the dancing pigtails sprouting from the back of Lilulu's head. He was conviced their silky smoothness would make for a pleasant touch.
"So, what are your measurements?"
The moment the question escaped his lips, Luo Ning clumsily bumped into Lilulu, who abruptly halted.
Lilulu glanced back at him.
Her eyes… seemed to regard him as a degenerate.
"No no no, it's not what you think." Luo Ning quickly defended himself.
"I just assumed you would be larger than my descriptions…but it seems you're far smaller," his gaze inadvertently grazed her chest, promptly darting away.
The Demon King in Luo Ning's setting is a pubescent girl, looking like a thirteen-year-old.
However, Lilulu's appearance is that of an eight-year-old girl, completely resembling a tiny lolita. This conflicts greatly with the character setting in Luo Ning's book.
In fact, he wanted to ask Lilulu about this a few days ago, but at that time, Lilulu wasn't quite familiar with him and there was no chance for a calm conversation.
So now he wanted to take this opportunity to inquire, perhaps he could gain some valuable information.
"Do you like big busts?"
Unexpectedly, Lilulu's next sentence made Luo Ning stumble forwards, almost falling over.
"…I said 'small,' not referring to this."
Even while saying this, Luo Ning subconsciously looked at Lilulu's flat chest.
It really was...as flat as a steel plate.
"I meant your physical stature, has it changed since the beginning?"
He asked seriously.
Indeed, when Luo Ning stands straight like this, he gives off an upright gentlemanly aura.
Lilulu originally wanted to tease Luo Ning, but unexpectedly became somewhat concerned.
Looking down at her own flat terrain.
The expression on Lilulu's face darkened further.
"It did shrink, because of magic energy depletion." She did not want to continue this topic, so she planned to brush Luo Ning off with a few words.
Her statement, however, piqued Luo Ning's curiosity even more.
"Magic energy?"
Luo Ning noticed the key point.
Magic energy is equivalent to magic power, it's a consumable energy, used to generate magic.
This matter exists everywhere, floating in the air, dissolving into rainwater, an unseen substance. After a specific transformation, it becomes some sort of elemental magic power.
Wind, fire, water, earth, light, as well as darkness, these are the six major elements on the continent of Lorraine.
Magic energy forms elemental magic, which then emerges from the magic array to form magic.
In other words, magic energy is the origin of power.
As the author of these settings, Luo Ning remembered them very clearly.
So Lilulu's comment just now... is it stating that the magic energy of Lorraine continent is declining?
This is strange. Magic energy is like the air, it's inexhaustible.
If it’s as she said and the magical energy of this world is indeed declining, isn’t the demon race that relies heavily on this abundant energy ...
Destined for decline?
The demon race is weakened collectively, including the Demon King.
Luo Ning suddenly realized.
He has been in this world for three days, but he hasn't seen many notable magical beasts.
Even in the extremely dangerous Demon King's lair, "The Forest of Bamiris", the strongest monster he's seen was just a mid-level ghost bear. This doesn’t align with the strengthened demon continent Luo Ning had envisioned to make the protagonist's journey more difficult.
Thinking about the curse Lilulu referred to as 'black rain'.
Along with the corrupted land, the weakened Demon King, the bone remnants on the desolate ground..
Everything seemed to point in one direction.
The current state of the demons in this world is apparently miserable.
