019: The Unexplainable Magic Cards

Today was a beautiful, sunny day.

The air was fresh, the temperature just right, and the sun was shining brightly.

If it weren't class time, the students would probably find a patch of grass, stretch out lazily, and bask in the warm sunlight.

But Yu Ge had no time to enjoy the lovely weather. A girl with a hammer was chasing him from behind, trying to kill him.

“Wait! I really wasn't lying to you. I swear, I was only trying to help.”

Yu Ge ran ahead, turning to shout at the hammer-wielding girl behind him.

“That still doesn't give you the right to take advantage of me!”

The brown-haired girl puffed out her cheeks. Even when she was angry, she was cute.

“Studies have shown that boys touching your chest can help it grow, because it stimulates a girl's hormones and speeds up the distribution of estrogen… and it can also… Whoa! You can't just swing that hammer at me every time!”

Yu Ge cowered in the corner, staring at the hammer embedded in the wall just inches from his head. Sweat trickled down his face. This girl really hit hard.

“If you tease me again, I'll beat you to death.”

The brown-haired girl put away her hammer, planted her hands on her hips, and spoke with an unhappy look on her face.

“I-I definitely won't.”

Yu Ge looked at the deep dent the hammer had left in the wall and instinctively swallowed. How was anyone supposed to stand up to that?

“Ahem. Anyway, since your friend is a Card Maker, I can commission cards from them here, right?”

The brown-haired girl remembered what had just happened and coughed, her face turning red.

“Yes, but you can't tell anyone else.”

Yu Ge nodded.

“I get it, I get it. It's a confidentiality thing, right? No problem. I'm good at keeping secrets.”

The brown-haired girl patted her chest.

“Right. What kind of card do you want made? By the way, I still don't know your name.”

“Sorry, sorry! I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Messiah from Class A, first year—Messiah Istanbul. Yu Ge, I look forward to working with you.”

Only after seeing Al and Bel's builds did the brown-haired girl realize she hadn't told Yu Ge her name yet.

“Likewise.”

Yu Ge reached out and shook Messiah's hand. Her hand felt soft and delicate, like it had no bones at all.

“So, Yu Ge, what rank of cards can your friend make right now?”

Messiah had already started thinking about what effects she wanted her card to have.

“Hmm, B-rank.”

Yu Ge thought it over and decided to keep his claimed skill at B-rank. He didn't want anyone besides Saya to know his real level as a Card Maker. Saya had seen what he could really do, so telling her he was A-rank was fine. But he'd only just met this girl, so it was better to keep a low profile. You could never be too careful.

“Then how much does one B-rank card cost? Like the ones you used earlier.”

“Hmm…”

Yu Ge lowered his head and started thinking. How much should he charge for a card? Saya had told him before that the legendary cards he made could be priceless. The only reason no one bought them was that no one believed they were real. If an S-rank card went for 1,000 gold, then an A-rank one could be 500, and 200 for a B-rank card wouldn't be unreasonable, right?

Making B-rank cards was like child's play to Yu Ge. He could churn out a whole pile just by thinking about it. Since it took him almost no effort, 200 per card seemed fair.

“200.”

“20,000 each?”

Just as Yu Ge named the price he'd carefully considered, Messiah assumed he hadn't settled on a number yet and offered what she was willing to pay. The two of them were stunned at the same time.

“Then 200 per card.”

Messiah said it with a perfectly straight face.

“No, no, 20,000 each. That's what you said.”

Yu Ge hurriedly waved his hands. A B-rank card could sell for 20,000 gold to these students? That was ridiculously profitable! If a B-rank card cost 20,000, wouldn't an A-rank card go for hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions? If he sold a few dozen of those, wouldn't he become a billionaire?

First, I'll set myself a small goal. Maybe I'll start by earning 100 million.

Yu Ge used to think that was just one of Boss Wang's motivational quotes. He never imagined that once he had the ability, earning 100 million really could be a piece of cake.

“I didn't say that. You quoted 200, and that's fine. I'll take as many as you can make.”

Messiah put on an innocent, harmless expression, as if she hadn't said any such thing.

“I said 200 thousand—that's 200,000 per card. But you look really cute, and we're classmates, so I'll let you have them for your 20,000.”

Yu Ge said shamelessly, “For money, I'd take down even a god. Going back on my word is nothing.”

“Mmm.”

Messiah was kicking herself now. She had no idea why this guy had quoted the ridiculously low price of 200 per card, but if she hadn't opened her mouth earlier, she would've made a killing. And now he wouldn't even admit he'd said it. What a shame.

“All right, what kind of magic card do you want? If you buy a lot, I can give you a discount.”

Seeing that Messiah had given up haggling, Yu Ge was in a fantastic mood. At 20,000 each, ten cards would bring in 200,000, and a hundred would bring in two million. Becoming a millionaire was just around the corner!

Oh, what a wonderful life of wealth awaited him.

While Yu Ge daydreamed about his future as a rich man, Messiah suddenly spoke up.

“I want to make a…”

When Yu Ge heard what Messiah wanted, he was completely dumbfounded. What the hell did she need a card like that for?!
