15. The Transfer Student

A brutal blow landed in Shen Guang’s stomach. Clutching it, he dropped to his knees in pain.

Did this woman really have to be so ruthless? He’d only made one teasing remark!

Lin Qingqian shot Shen Guang a cold glance, then twirled a lock of hair around her finger. Her expression grew even more icy.

“You’re addicted to making fun of me, huh?”

“I was just... stating my honest impression! Besides, you really did look pretty cute just now.” Shen Guang lived by the creed of not being afraid to die as he slowly got to his feet.

He raised the bun in his hand. Though he looked a little worse for wear, he still grinned at the girl in front of him.

“Bringing breakfast, tying my tie. Isn’t that what a girlfriend does?”

“Tch! You really know how to push your luck. Don’t let me hear you say that again, or I’ll deal with you myself!” Lin Qingqian turned and walked away. But when Shen Guang noticed the tips of her ears, he couldn’t help chuckling.

After gathering his things for school, Shen Guang stepped outside with an umbrella, a bun dangling from his mouth.

But as he passed a corner, he collided head-on with someone.

“Ah!”

A girl’s startled cry rang out. Shen Guang instinctively reached out and caught her.

But when he got a good look at the girl in front of him, he was taken aback.

“Luo Xiaoxiao?”

Luo Xiaoxiao rubbed her head and pouted. She looked at Shen Guang as if she were about to burst into tears.

“That really hurt!!!”

“I mean, I’m not made of steel. Was it really that bad? Besides, there’s no one else here. Putting on an act for me won’t work!”

Shen Guang’s words were rather heartless, leaving Luo Xiaoxiao even more dejected.

Ever since she’d gone back that day, she hadn’t been able to figure out why Shen Guang had let go so easily.

When he’d confessed to her before, he’d seemed so utterly certain.

She’d even made a major decision because of it!

“It really does hurt! If you don’t believe me, come look at my forehead.”

Luo Xiaoxiao leaned closer, her bright eyes fixed on Shen Guang as if she wanted to catch him looking flustered.

But to her disappointment, Shen Guang didn’t look flustered at all. He even calmly glanced at her forehead.

There wasn’t a flicker of emotion in his eyes......

Was she really not attractive to Shen Guang at all? She had curves in all the right places, and she’d even done a photoshoot!

If every one of her fans spat at Shen Guang, they could drown him. Yet somehow, he was the one person who could stay this calm.

This wasn’t like him at all!

She looked up, about to speak to Shen Guang, only to meet his deep, dark eyes.

In an instant, her face turned scarlet, heat rising from it as if she had a fever.

“You’re not running a fever, are you?”

“Y-you-you! You’re the one who’s horny! Idiot!” Luo Xiaoxiao snapped, then ran off without looking back.

That left Shen Guang standing there, completely baffled.

He hadn’t done anything. What was Luo Xiaoxiao’s problem?

........

Shen Guang returned to his seat, but it was obvious his classmates were looking at him differently.

There was an odd, hard-to-describe look in their eyes, as if yesterday’s version of him had scared them.

But that was only natural. Who would’ve thought that someone who barely ever played basketball could crush the players on the neighboring class’s team?

He’d been playing the fool while hiding his true strength. That was probably it.

Shen Guang didn’t get much satisfaction out of it. As far as he was concerned, he’d just been cleaning up someone else’s mess. The details didn’t matter to him.

When Yan Qingxue returned to the classroom, she saw Shen Guang sitting at his desk, staring into space.

Curious, she walked over and waved a hand in front of him.

“I can still see, you know...” Shen Guang looked utterly listless, as if all the life had drained out of him.

Ever since losing his memory, Shen Guang’s whole personality had changed.

That sunny aura was nowhere to be seen. Of course, it hadn’t exactly been all that likable to begin with. This lazy, laid-back side of him was much easier to talk to.

“Shen Guang, did you sleep badly last night? You look half-asleep.”

“There was thunder last night. It woke me up, and I barely slept after that.” Shen Guang rubbed his eyes. He really didn’t look well-rested.

“You should get some proper rest.” Yan Qingxue spoke earnestly, then suddenly changed the subject, lowering her voice. “We’ve got a new transfer student today!”

“A transfer student? That’s pretty normal. It’s not like they’re anyone famous.” Shen Guang stretched, his eyes unconsciously drifting toward the classroom door.

He caught sight of a familiar figure disappearing from view. He’d only seen the person from behind, but somehow they felt incredibly familiar. As if he’d seen them somewhere before.

“Oh, you definitely know this person! You said so yourself.” Yan Qingxue gave Shen Guang a mischievous grin. Clearly, she knew something he didn’t.

But even if he’d known them before, that didn’t mean he’d recognize them now. Who knew who it was?

“I don’t know them. I’ve lost my memory, remember? I’ve forgotten plenty of people from before. And even if I did know them, so what? It’s not like they’re some kind of idol, right?”

Yan Qingxue was taken aback by how unconcerned Shen Guang sounded. He’d guessed the answer correctly.

But before she could reveal who it was, the homeroom teacher walked in.

“I’ll keep it brief. We’ve got a new transfer student today, so make sure you look after them. Though I’m sure you already know that without me telling you.” The homeroom teacher still had dark circles under his eyes, but he was as brisk and decisive as ever.

He called toward the classroom door. “You can come in now.”

Under the expectant gaze of the class, a girl walked in with a conspicuous red bow in her hair.

She wore a confident smile, and the students in the room were instantly swept up in it.

But the moment she stepped inside, the class erupted in a deafening chorus of shouts. It seemed no one had expected to see this.

And Shen Guang, sitting at the very back, finally understood what had happened that morning.

“So it was her...” Shen Guang murmured. Yan Qingxue caught it at once.

She leaned toward Shen Guang and lowered her voice.

“See? You do know her! That’s Luo Xiaoxiao. Quite a few people in this class are fans of hers!”

“More like quite a few guys are fans of hers.”

Shen Guang didn’t hesitate to point out the truth, which caught Yan Qingxue by surprise.

And from the look of it, Shen Guang didn’t seem all that interested in Luo Xiaoxiao’s arrival.

“Aren’t you surprised? She’s a hugely popular idol. Even my little sister talks about her nonstop at home.”

“An idol’s still a person. Sure, there’s a distance between them and ordinary people, but they’re still just ordinary people at heart. Isn’t chasing stars all about that vague, untouchable sense of distance?”

Shen Guang looked up and met the eyes of a certain girl.

Luo Xiaoxiao secretly winked at Shen Guang, as if telling him how bold she was.
