Lin Qingqian stared coldly at Shen Guang, as if she could bore a hole right through him.
Shen Guang was just as awkward. Who could’ve expected Lin Qingqian to show up now? It was already nighttime, and it wasn’t safe for a girl to go into a guy’s room.
Lin Qingqian glanced at the instant noodles on the table, then looked at Shen Guang. Silence packed a far stronger punch than scolding.
Shen Guang even felt like she was tempted to kill him.
The corner of his mouth twitched. He gave an awkward, ingratiating smile and said,
“Well... I thought you weren’t coming today, so I made myself something to eat. I... can’t rely on you all the time, right?”
“So what you made yourself was boiled water and instant noodles?” Lin Qingqian said mockingly. “Do you really think that excuse will fool me?”
“I-I don’t know how to cook.”
“Then learn!” Lin Qingqian’s expression grew even more severe. She really hadn’t expected that after leaving this guy alone for a while, he wouldn’t even know how to cook! Who knew how much junk food he’d been eating all this time?
But Shen Guang was dead set against cooking. To put it bluntly, even a dog wouldn’t eat the food he made! If he forced himself to live on his own cooking for a month, he’d probably die at home and start to stink.
To put a stop to Lin Qingqian’s idea, Shen Guang decided to exercise his rights!
“Lin Qingqian!” His voice suddenly rose. Lin Qingqian stared at him in surprise, looking more than a little incredulous.
“I have ears. You don’t need to shout.”
“You don’t have to go to the trouble of making meals for me. Besides, if you keep hanging around here all the time, people might start gossiping about you.”
“Are you afraid I’ll get in the way of you pursuing Yan Qingxue?” Lin Qingqian stopped what she was doing, crossed her arms, and looked at him expressionlessly.
This was a deadly choice of question. The answer was obvious, though—there was no point in picking the wrong option now.
Shen Guang cleared his throat, then said seriously,
“I’m worried it’ll hurt your reputation. Besides, if your future boyfriend finds out you’ve been at my place, you won’t be able to explain your way out of it. I don’t want to get saddled with that kind of blame.” Shen Guang shrugged, looking fairly serious.
But his words only made Lin Qingqian laugh in exasperation.
“Shen Guang, you were faking your amnesia too, weren’t you? You just wanted to make a fool of me!”
She tossed the bag in her hand onto the table and turned to leave, but Shen Guang hurriedly grabbed her wrist.
The moment his hand touched her soft, meltingly smooth skin, Shen Guang shuddered and let go without thinking.
Luckily, Lin Qingqian stopped and turned around in confusion.
She seemed to have noticed something.
Shen Guang gave an awkward smile and instinctively took a step back, doing his best to explain.
“Um, I really did lose my memory. If there was something between us, just tell me. Misunderstanding me without saying anything—that’s a clumsy trick novel authors use.”
Lin Qingqian didn’t answer. Instead, she turned and slowly walked toward Shen Guang.
Shen Guang stiffened slightly. Even his expression turned rigid.
Could this woman have figured something out?
The air seemed to grow charged. Whether Lin Qingqian was doing it on purpose or not, she unbuttoned one button of her shirt, revealing the pale skin at her collar and her delicate collarbones to Shen Guang.
His breathing quickened, and his fists clenched without him realizing it.
Was the inch-force, Heaven-Opening strike he’d practiced for so long finally about to come in handy?
And why was Lin Qingqian acting like a completely different person?
“Shen Guang, you actually like girls to make the first move, don’t you?” The girl’s bashful words came out a little stiffly, and Shen Guang’s mind instantly cleared.
So she was faking it!
Shen Guang let out a sigh of relief, then shook his head helplessly and said,
“Lin Qingqian, teasing me won’t do you any good. Besides, you’re probably the one who looks down on me the most.”
Lin Qingqian’s expression stiffened for a split second, but she quickly hid it.
She stopped, seeming to return to the cold, frosty beauty she’d been before.
She let down her tied-up ponytail, crossed her arms, and stared coldly at Shen Guang. “You’re not Shen Guang. Who are you, really?”
“You’re not Shen Guang. Who are you, really?”
The girl’s words crashed into his ears like a bolt of lightning. Shen Guang swallowed in silence, his head dipping unconsciously.
At that moment, even lifting his head felt difficult.
Just as he’d thought—he was too different from the original Shen Guang, and Lin Qingqian had caught on!
Cold sweat soaked Shen Guang’s back, and his breathing grew ragged.
If his identity was exposed, what would happen next? Would this world forcibly erase him? Or would he have to face a bad end all over again?
Whatever happened, Shen Guang couldn’t imagine a single good outcome.
After all, he was a throwaway character to begin with!
“Heh... what are you talking about? I’m Shen Guang.”
“You’re not Shen Guang. No matter how much his personality changed, he’d never forget how to cook. And the things you said at the hospital—they weren’t like Shen Guang at all.”
Lin Qingqian rejected his claim outright, leaving Shen Guang no room to wriggle out of it.
So he’d given himself away by being too gentle?
It was too late for Shen Guang to regret it now. If he made up some random excuse, Lin Qingqian might not believe him anyway. Better to tell her the truth—though he’d have to change a few details.
He let out a soft sigh, looking rather helpless. He pulled out a chair and gestured for Lin Qingqian to sit, then took the seat opposite her.
Lin Qingqian sat down. She rested one hand on the table and tapped it lightly, while propping her pale, delicate cheek against the other.
“Those little tricks won’t work on me. Whatever you want to know, I’ll tell you.”
Shen Guang poured Lin Qingqian a glass of water and set it in front of the hand she had resting on the table.
Lin Qingqian didn’t refuse. She wanted to see what kind of person this “Shen Guang” really was.
“So, where’s Shen Guang? Where did he go?”
“Him? How would I know where he went? When I woke up, I was already in the hospital. I inherited some of his memories, but I’ve forgotten most of them.”
“Then who are you?”
“Have you heard of transmigration? It’s the kind of thing that only happens in novels.”
Lin Qingqian stared at Shen Guang in silence, and Shen Guang stared right back at her.
Shen Guang met her gaze without flinching. He looked as if he were telling the truth, which only made Lin Qingqian more certain that he was.
Sure, it sounded unbelievable. But miracles happened in this world all the time. Maybe the original Shen Guang had died in that accident.
And the young man in front of her had taken his place.
Thinking back on the past few days she’d spent with him, Lin Qingqian realized that this young man was very methodical. Aside from cooking, he seemed able to handle anything.
She’d never been particularly fond of the original Shen Guang. If it weren’t for their relationship, she definitely wouldn’t have bothered with him.
But if someone else had taken his place, perhaps things could take a different turn.
“All right. I believe you!” Lin Qingqian quickly accepted it as fact. But what Shen Guang said next surprised her.
“I don’t really want to get involved in your business. I’m a lazy person, so unless it’s something important, don’t come looking for me.”
