6. A Personal Theory

“Liu-jie, I’m not worthy of such a blessing!” Shen Guang finally managed to escape from her formidable assets, and took several extra breaths.

It might’ve been a lucky break, but getting smothered to death would be ridiculous.

As cannon fodder, if I’m going to die, I should at least go down with dignity.

Liu Min arched a brow. Her red lips parted as she tilted Shen Guang’s chin up with her fingers and spoke in a sultry voice.

“Do you know how worried I was after you got hurt? I could barely eat or sleep. I waited for you until my eyes nearly went blind!”

“But the sauce stains on your skirt say otherwise, don’t they?” Shen Guang pointed at the stains on Liu Min’s clothes, wearing a faint smile.

But when Liu Min saw a rather inconspicuous stain on her beloved skirt, she went completely crazy.

“Oh my god, which son of a bitch got sauce on my skirt? I’ll kill you!” Liu Min was heartbroken, nothing like the charming, seductive woman she’d been a moment ago.

Liu Min was still two-faced. When they chatted in the game, she always acted so flirtatious, asking if he wanted to see some spicy pictures—selfies that showed just enough to get his blood racing. But Shen Guang always replied, “Then send them already!”

And yet, even now, he hadn’t seen a thing.

As expected, a woman’s words are nothing but lies.

Shen Guang shook his head helplessly and pulled his suitcase toward the apartment. But Liu Min hurried after him.

“Hehe, Shen Guang. I wasn’t deliberately avoiding you, you know. Our boss is always eyeing gorgeous women like me, so he took me on a business trip these past few days.”

Liu Min pressed herself against him. Her mature figure seemed to brush against Shen Guang’s arm, intentionally or not, and even her voice turned sweet and coy.

But Shen Guang didn’t react at all.

He pressed the elevator button and said calmly,

“You mean the rent?”

“You’re so mean~ Why’d you have to call me out like that? You’ll never get a girlfriend if you keep this up~”

“I can give you more time, but you still have to pay the full amount. Besides, you earn thousands, even tens of thousands, a month. And you’re telling me you can’t afford rent? Anyone else would’ve kicked you out already.”

Shen Guang actually knew where Liu Min’s money went. That woman went all out when it came to her appearance.

From clothes to makeup, she spent big on everything.

That was why Liu Min was always living paycheck to paycheck.

Shen Guang’s calm response caught Liu Min off guard. Before, she’d always been able to sweet-talk him into agreeing to what she wanted. Of course, tossing him a little treat now and then made it even more effective.

But Shen Guang seemed different after coming back from the hospital. He’d become a lot more composed.

She’d also noticed that, from the moment they met, Shen Guang hadn’t even looked at her. When she’d gone out today, her outfit had drawn plenty of heated looks—some people had even asked for her contact information.

Of course, she’d turned them down politely. But for a young guy like Shen Guang, still in his teens, a woman like her was dangerously distracting.

“Shen Guang, you’ve changed. You’ve become cold-hearted. You’re supposed to be a teenage boy chasing sweet romance.”

Liu Min put on a wounded expression, but Shen Guang showed no trace of chivalry. He said calmly,

“I have no youth, no romance. All I have left are problems.”

With that, Shen Guang opened his door and shut it without a second thought, leaving Liu Min standing there, completely dumbfounded.

How had she never realized Shen Guang had so much attitude? He used to be such a lecherous little brat.

……

Shen Guang didn’t know what to make of those four girls. At least, as far as he was concerned, he probably wouldn’t have ended up as cannon fodder if he hadn’t gotten involved with them.

But now, Lin Qingqian alone had already put a stop to that pointless line of thought.

As far as he could tell, Lin Qingqian didn’t like Shen Guang, yet she looked after him like a nursemaid. And judging by what she’d said at the hospital, Shen Guang had caused plenty of trouble before all this.

But in the end, Lin Qingqian had always been the one to deal with it.

So Lin Qingqian had averted his bad ending from the very beginning.

As for why Lin Qingqian hadn’t helped Shen Guang in the game, it was probably because he’d said something hurtful to her.

Shen Guang lay sprawled on the sofa, looking around the spacious room. For a moment, it felt strangely empty.

He still preferred hiding in a small room. The cramped space gave him a little sense of contentment.

But looking at the spotless room, Shen Guang could more or less guess who was responsible.

Shen Guang had to hand it to Lin Qingqian. Even though she couldn’t stand him, she’d still seen these chores through to the end. Her work ethic was downright terrifying.

As for why she did it, perhaps he’d understand naturally later on.

……

It was a little embarrassing to admit, but Shen Guang couldn’t cook.

The table was piled with instant noodles and drinks he’d just bought. He’d put a bag of fresh fruit back in the fridge.

He understood the usual social etiquette, but deep down, Shen Guang still preferred being alone. Even back in school, he’d tried to shut out the noise around him by doing practice problems.

It wasn’t that he disliked talking to people. Actually, he preferred it when they came over and started a conversation with him.

After all, he was the type who never made the first move.

As soon as he got back, Shen Guang found the app from the game that let him chat with the heroines. There might be more characters later, but for now, he had to sort out his relationships with these four.

Yan Qingxue: His classmate. She had a good personality and got along well with people. She was kind to others and rented a room from Shen Guang.

Lin Qingqian: Her identity was unclear, but she had a strong sense of responsibility and could stick with things even when she disliked them.

Luo Xiaoxiao: An idol. She was tsundere and had once turned down Shen Guang’s confession.

Liu Min: Her job was unclear. Her easygoing, carefree attitude on the surface probably hid her true personality.

As the information about the four women surfaced in Shen Guang’s mind, he poured all the hot water from the teapot into his cup of instant noodles.

The aroma of the seasoning drifted through the air, and in an instant, Shen Guang lost all desire to think.

Who cares about thinking? Food first, women later!

“Ding-dong! Ding-dong!”

Just as Shen Guang was about to enjoy some quality time alone, the doorbell suddenly rang urgently.

You’d think the Black and White Impermanence had come to drag him off to the afterlife.

Shen Guang hurried over and opened the door. Lin Qingqian stood there with her brows knitted together, holding a white bag full of groceries.

Her nose twitched. She turned her head slightly and spotted the cup of instant noodles on the table, still uncovered.

“Shen Guang, did that hit really mess up your brain? You’ve only just been discharged, and you’re already eating this stuff. Are you trying to die faster?”

The girl’s scolding left Shen Guang speechless. Before he could make an excuse, she pushed his hand aside and marched straight toward the freshly prepared noodles.

From the looks of it, she was about to throw them away!

A cold sweat broke out on Shen Guang’s back. He blurted out,

“Wait! Spare the noodles!”
