7-1 Trouble Out of Nowhere (Part One)

The little town had been bustling these past couple of days. A lot of important people had come by, and Ye Su had seen plenty of mages in holy robes surrounding a young man, as if he were leading an official inspection.

After all, an A-Rank monster had been lurking here, and it had been safely defeated with only a little over ten casualties. That counted as a pretty good result. The people who’d come were here to see the aftermath and calm the residents’ frayed nerves.

They were also handing out payments to the adventurers who’d taken part in the defense. With an A-Rank monster involved, the rewards were generous. Big Sis Fiona alone would get around fifty gold coins, since she’d finished off the humanoid monster. Her reward was especially high.

The monster’s corpse had been cut up, and most of it was put up for sale to help rebuild the city. That was part of the agreement: if a monster attacking a city was brought down, any materials sold from its body would first go toward repairing the damage it had caused.

So Ye Su and the others wouldn’t get a single coin from the materials.

Still, fifty gold coins was plenty! Big Sis Fiona had deposited forty-eight of them in her guild account and handed the remaining two straight to Ye Su.

She said she couldn’t look after him lately, so he’d have to make do on his own for a while.

When she handed him the two gold coins at the counter, every adventurer in the guild stared at Ye Su with gleaming eyes, like ravenous monsters ready to devour him.

Ye Su didn’t know exactly how much two gold coins were worth, but if they could make this many people greedy, they had to be worth quite a bit!

After giving him the coins, Fiona made a threat in front of everyone: “If anyone lays a hand on my little brother Ye Su, just wait until I’m healed. I’ll separate your head from your body!” So Ye Su was still fairly safe in this city. He might be a walking treasure chest, but no one dared mess with him.

After all, he was under the protection of Fiona, the woman known as the [Blood Sword Maiden]. There were only a few hundred A-Rank adventurers in the whole country, and Fiona was one of the very best.

Once he left the guild, Ye Su headed for the shopping street. It was some distance from the residential area where the monsters had appeared, so it hadn’t been caught up in the monsters’ rampage or Fiona’s battle. The shops there were open as usual.

He just wanted to buy something nutritious for lunch. Fiona was recovering from her injuries, and the guild’s rations weren’t all that great. Besides, Big Sis had given him two gold coins, so spending some of them on her was only natural.

Ye Su strolled along, taking in the buildings around him.

This was the first time he’d really taken a good look at the street. Some of the buildings looked pretty old, but at least they were all made of brick and stone, giving them a real sense of history. If he hadn’t played so many games with flashy graphics and perfect art, he might’ve found the place quite charming.

The sign came into view out of nowhere. A short distance ahead, a nearly rotten sign hung above a somewhat weathered shopfront. It looked like it had been there for a long time.

The sign’s name really stood out—at least in this little town. The other shops all had signs like [Noodles], [Barbecue], or [Fruit Shop], plain and simple, so this cheeky one immediately caught Ye Su’s eye.
