“Enough... enough~”
In the end, Ye Lan couldn’t take any more of Bai Yu clinging and cuddling up to her. The next second, her face burning red, she pushed her away.
Men and women shouldn’t touch... Ah, no, that’s not it.
What official could withstand a test like this?
This wasn’t the same as cuddling up to her herself. Not knowing what to expect made her feel uneasy.
“Bai Yu, you...”
“Hehe~ My body’s completely recovered now.”
“Really? How did you get better?” Ye Lan asked, curious.
“Mm-hmm~ What do you think?”
Bai Yu hugged Ye Lan again, growing more and more intimate with her.
Just then, someone walked in from outside. It was Bai Tu, back after fixing her makeup.
The moment Bai Tu saw Ye Lan, her expression softened.
She’d thought she’d have to go to great lengths to find hope. She hadn’t expected it to come to her side without her even realizing.
How could she put it?
But she’d also brought news.
“Ye Lan, our boss wants to see you.”
“The boss? You mean the owner?” Ye Lan was about to push the clingy Bai Yu away, but she froze, not quite following.
“That’s right. Your Stars seem a little overpowered.”
“Overpowered?”
Ye Lan couldn’t figure out how being good at running away could count as being overpowered.
Seeing Ye Lan’s adorably bewildered look, Bai Tu gave her a reminder.
“You went back to the past and changed history, didn’t you? At the very last moment, you brought Bai Yu to Mom, so Mom could restore Bai Yu’s health. That was incredible.”
“Huh!?”
Ye Lan’s little mouth fell open. She was completely stunned.
“So yesterday wasn’t a dream? I thought I’d been so tired I’d dreamed it all up! I can’t believe it actually happened...”
Come to think of it, she seemed to have given a whole bunch of big shots a serious tongue-lashing.
She’d said the Night Watchers were awful and did nothing but cause trouble. What if she’d offended them?
If they made things difficult for her and bullied her at work, she wouldn’t be able to stay here!
“I’ve gotta run!”
“Why?”
Ye Lan nervously poked her fingers together.
“Because I think I yelled at a bunch of my seniors. I’m kind of scared.”
“Don’t worry. I don’t think they’ll mind. Night Watchers are usually pretty forgiving toward their coworkers.”
“Really?” Ye Lan’s eyes lit up as hope returned.
Bai Tu pondered for a few seconds.
“Probably.”
......
Then Bai Tu took Ye Lan to a certain place.
There were quite a few people here—more than a dozen.
“Um...”
With more than a dozen strangers staring at her, Ye Lan felt a little intimidated. She didn’t dare say a word.
Xiao Jin stepped forward and asked in a friendly manner, “Your name’s Ye Lan, right?”
“Mm. Are you the boss?”
Ye Lan didn’t remember this uncle very well, but he didn’t look like a bad person.
Just then, someone else came over. He looked like a young man who was a little too old to be called young.
“Hey, kiddo. Do you remember me?” Wang Chao wore an interested smile, like a child trafficker trying to lure a kid away.
“Huh?”
Ye Lan didn’t remember this young man either. She almost wanted to say, “Who the hell are you?”
Seeing Ye Lan’s utterly blank expression, Wang Chao grinned and gave her a reminder.
“Ahaha, looks like you don’t remember. Let me jog your memory: I’m one of those Night Watchers you said did nothing but bad things. Remember now?”
“Huh? I’m sorry!”
She still didn’t remember him.
But either way, it was better to apologize first.
Wang Chao just shook his head, looking unconcerned.
“What’s the big deal? I actually think you were absolutely right to chew us out. When we get there, stand your ground and don’t be scared of those guys. If anyone gives you a hard time, just go, ‘Yeah, yeah, sure,’ and do whatever you want. That’ll do the trick.”
“‘Yeah, yeah, sure’?”
“Yeah, yeah, sure. Exactly.”
Xiao Jin watched Wang Chao seriously teach a little kid how to be a delinquent, the corner of his mouth twitching. He almost kicked him flying.
What kind of Radiant Sun Night Watcher was this? He was just a bastard.
“Ahem.”
Xiao Jin coughed pointedly, and Wang Chao stopped fooling around.
When all was said and done, this was a very important matter. Even jokes had their limits.
“Ye Lan, have a seat. Would you like something to drink?”
“Um... could I have black tea?”
“Of course.”
Xiao Jin then had someone bring over a cup of black tea.
Ye Lan sipped it slowly, feeling a little nervous.
It wasn’t as if she could claim she wasn’t nervous. She’d apparently done something awful.
“Um... may I ask why you wanted to see me today?”
“It’s about your Stars. We Night Watchers have never encountered Stars like yours before. Could you tell me how you did it?”
Ye Lan knew Xiao Jin was asking about the ‘dream.’
Had she traveled back to the past?
“I don’t know either. I just went to sleep, then somehow ended up in that place.”
“Then please describe what happened in detail.”
“Um... it went like this.”
Ye Lan explained how she’d watched the whole thing unfold, only stepping in to interfere at the very end. After it was over, she woke up in bed—and she was exhausted, still dazed and muddled. That was why she’d thought it was an incredibly realistic dream.
After listening, Xiao Jin pondered for a while.
“What are the conditions for using it? I mean, what has to happen before you can use your Stars? Did you do anything unusual beforehand?”
“Um... Oh, right. I heard about the Wish Machine from Senior Bai Tu, so I thought, if I were a Wish Machine, I’d definitely help Bai Yu make her wish come true. Something like that...”
The Wish Machine?!
Everyone present widened their eyes at the words.
How could they not know what that term meant?
It was a Transcendent Star officially identified and confirmed by Zhixing—one capable of reaching Supernova level, with an unimaginable degree of danger.
Could the little girl in front of them be the vessel for that Star?
Everyone’s eyes immediately grew fervent.
They’d been prepared to spend a lot of resources searching for it, and even then they might not find it. Yet the target was right in front of them—and had come to them of her own accord.
Xiao Jin also worked out from the memories in his mind just how absurd the Wish Machine’s effects could be. If it went out of control, it could cause another kind of disaster.
But looking at Ye Lan’s adorably bewildered expression... maybe there was nothing to worry about. Probably.
The more powerful an ability was, the less predictable it became—and the greater the risks it brought.
By the Night Watchers’ usual rules, once they discovered something like this, they’d contain and control it, more or less bringing it under their wing, with multiple safeguards put in place.
But Ye Lan had already joined the Night Watchers. How should they handle things from here?
The Night Watchers had no experience dealing with a Supernova-level Transcendent Star. They did, however, have plenty of experience handling Supernova Star-Eclipses.
Just as Xiao Jin was sinking into troubled thought, his communicator rang.
Xiao Jin glanced at it and saw it was a Radiant Sun Rank Night Watcher who’d been on leave for ages—a real pain in the ass.
“I’ll step away for a moment.”
Xiao Jin walked off to answer the call.
“Hello. Whatever it is, make it quick.”
“So, are you guys trying to figure out what to do with that little girl who has a Transcendent Star?”
“You already knew?”
Thinking of this guy’s ability, Xiao Jin quickly figured out what was going on. The corner of his mouth twitched.
“Don’t sweat the details. How about hearing me out? I’ve got a suggestion.”
