After leaving the three of them, Bai Tu returned to the medical department.
The person most important to her was in the ward.
She found the room with practiced ease and gently pressed the doorbell.
“Come in,” a gentle voice called.
The door opened, and Bai Tu strolled inside.
The first thing she saw was a petite girl sitting on the hospital bed. Her skin was very pale—the unhealthy kind of pale—but it only added to her beauty.
She also had beautiful, fluffy, wavy short hair, and her silvery-gray eyes were especially bright.
She was looking at Bai Tu now, too, a faint smile at the corners of her mouth.
It was a smile that made you feel warm inside. But the girl wearing it seemed as fragile as glass—she looked strong, yet somehow made you want to protect her.
Bai Tu finally smiled when she saw her.
“Bai Yu, how have you been lately?”
“I’ve been great, Big Sis~ Don’t worry about me.”
“Is that so? Then I’m relieved.”
Bai Tu sat by the bed and stroked her head.
This was her younger sister, just as adorable as Ye Lan.
Then Bai Tu glanced around. There was a high-spec, lightweight gaming device on the table. Even someone confined to a hospital bed could enjoy all kinds of games, as long as they were awake.
“Have you gotten into gaming lately?”
Bai Yu smiled and nodded.
“Mm! Since I can’t go out, I can only play games here. I didn’t expect them to be so fun! And lately, I’ve found a really great gaming buddy. Playing with him makes me so happy~”
She really did seem happy right now. There wasn’t a trace of gloom in her expression.
Bai Tu’s eyes softened. “That’s good. Just don’t play for too long at a time, or it could hurt your health. Remember to take it easy.”
“I know~ Big Sis can be so naggy sometimes.”
Bai Yu pouted slightly, as if she found that annoying—but she was probably just putting on an act.
Seeing her little sister make such an adorable face, Bai Tu couldn’t resist pinching her cheeks, as if it could recharge her sister’s troubled heart.
“You have to be happy.”
“Mm! I’m super happy now that you’re here, Big Sis. And I’m going to stay in a good mood every day. I can play games with my friends and find all sorts of fun things online, so my whole life can be free of sadness. Even when my final moment comes, I want to leave with the very, very best smile. That’s my dream~”
Hearing that, Bai Tu couldn’t help wrapping her arms around her and gently rubbing her cheek against Bai Yu’s.
“I’ve found hope. When I bring a miracle to you, will you believe me?”
Bai Yu froze for a moment, then gently hugged Bai Tu back and smiled tenderly.
“Mm... I’ll be waiting.”
......
Meanwhile.
Cai Xun and Bu Jie had already brought Ye Lan to the registration area.
“Hey, we’ve got work for you! There’s a newbie joining our big family. Get over here!”
At Bu Jie’s call, the staff member responsible for evaluating newcomers’ qualifications came over in no time.
“Who’s joining?”
“This little loli here.”
Cai Xun gently nudged Ye Lan to the front.
Ye Lan was already getting nervous.
It felt just like her first job interview. Terrifying!
The only reason she’d managed to chat with Cai Xun and Bu Jie earlier was that they didn’t seem serious at all. They looked like a couple of goofballs.
But the staff guy looked so serious and stern!
The guy gave Ye Lan a serious look, seeming a little surprised.
Ye Lan gave a token greeting in return.
“Hello...”
“Mm.”
The guy nodded, then looked at Cai Xun and Bu Jie.
“Reason for joining?”
“She was recommended by the big boss! There’s absolutely no problem!”
Bu Jie pointed at himself with his thumb, looking rather smug.
The guy got to work. He pulled up Cai Xun and Bu Jie’s files, confirmed everything was in order, then tried to find Ye Lan’s information.
But after scanning her face, he couldn’t find any records for Ye Lan.
“What’s going on?”
“Oh, I forgot to mention—this kid’s undocumented. Probably a family thing. Maybe she was born in secret and never registered. I don’t know the details. Just make her an all-purpose ID card and that’ll do,” Cai Xun added.
The guy nodded and continued, “What are the traits of her Stars?”
Without even thinking, Cai Xun answered, “She runs really fast.” Then he looked at Ye Lan and asked, “Right?”
Ye Lan nodded like a pecking chicken. “Right, right, right.”
She did feel a little guilty, though. After all, she’d gone from being an adult man to being two little lolis. Being fast was probably just a side effect.
But she didn’t dare say that out loud.
She’d probably die of embarrassment.
If people found out that she’d been a handsome young guy, but had taken to being a loli in no time after transforming, it’d be so shameless she’d never live it down!
While Ye Lan kept her head down and tried to stay quiet, the guy brought over something that looked, at a glance, like a belt.
“Put this around your waist, then run one lap around this area at full strength. We’ll test your top speed.”
“Okay.”
Ye Lan obediently put it on and was ready in no time.
“Can I start now?”
“Go ahead.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Ye Lan shot off, kicking up a gust of wind.
Once she’d reached her top speed, she gradually slowed down, finally coming to a stop in front of the three of them.
“Hup!”
The guy looked at the data on the projection screen and gave his verdict.
“Godspeed B. That’s a pretty good result.”
Ye Lan looked a little confused.
“What’s that?”
Cai Xun explained, “It’s how we rank different abilities. For speed, there’s ‘Speed A, B, and C’—that’s the range for ordinary people. Once you go beyond that, we use ‘Godspeed A, B, and C.’ Strength works the same way: ‘Strength A, B, and C,’ then ‘Godlike Strength A, B, and C.’ There’s spiritual power, too, but that’s not divided up as much. Only people who have Stars possess any significant spiritual power, so there’s no ordinary-person range. We usually just use ‘Spiritual Power A, B, and C.’ Make sense?”
Ye Lan nodded, looking enlightened. “I think I get it.”
They continued testing her other stats, and the final results were:
Godspeed B, Strength C, Spiritual Power C.
Aside from her exceptional speed, the rest were about what you’d expect from a newcomer.
But Cai Xun and Bu Jie were a little surprised by her strength.
After all, that was the standard for an adult man. For Ye Lan, a little loli in her teens, to have that kind of strength was pretty impressive.
The thing was, she didn’t have a hint of muscle. Her arms looked skinny and weak.
It was probably another gift from her Stars.
Once the guy entered all the data into her file, Ye Lan’s status as a Night Watcher was officially confirmed.
“All set. Your ID’s been created. If any of your stats change, you can come here to update them. If there’s nothing else, you’re free to go.”
“Yay~”
