Ye Lan got out of bed after lying there for a while.

She followed White and the other two out of the room, only to realize that this didn’t seem to be a hospital.

“This is the Night Watchers Base, a special government organization that deals with abnormal incidents.”

“Huh?” Ye Lan stared at White strangely, looking like she wanted to say something but wasn’t sure how.

“Is that hard to understand? It’s the truth, though.”

“It depends. Some are easy to deal with, others aren’t. Take what happened earlier, when you were running around the streets without using your Stars properly. In a way, that counted as a Star Eclipse phenomenon, too.”

As she said this, White looked at Ye Lan like she was a naughty child, making Ye Lan feel terribly awkward.

“Still, only Star Holders can detect Star Eclipse phenomena. People only noticed you after you fell. Luckily, it didn’t cause too much trouble.”

“Why?”

“There’s no clear explanation. Maybe things with the same source are just drawn to each other.”

“Mm...”

Ye Lan fell into thought, letting out a soft, adorable hum.

White watched her serious little face and asked, “So, Ye Lan, I have a question for you. Would you be willing to join the Night Watchers?”

“Sure... Wait, join the Night Watchers?” Ye Lan’s eyes widened in surprise, and she stopped walking without even realizing it.

White stopped with her and crouched down to meet Ye Lan’s deep-blue eyes.

“Only people who hold Stars can join the Night Watchers. And since you live alone, it isn’t very safe. That’s why I recommend joining us. At the very least, you’d be able to live more securely. Of course, it’s only a suggestion. You can take your time to think it over.”

Ye Lan froze, then cautiously asked, “Is it a job?”

White thought about it, then nodded. “You could think of it that way.”

“How’s the pay?”

“Food and lodging are covered, and you’ll get all the usual benefits. You’ll also receive a monthly salary. You won’t have to take on any dangerous missions, either. You’re still so young, so they probably won’t let you take part in Star Eclipse operations.”

“Then I’m in! I definitely want to join!”

After hearing White’s explanation, Ye Lan’s eyes lit up. She looked like she couldn’t wait to sign up.

White shot Bu Jie a glare before turning and walking away.

Once she was gone, Cai Xun sucked in a breath. “Whoa, you’ve got guts, messing with even White. Are you into her or something?”

Bu Jie shrugged. “I do like her, but more like how you look out for a junior. Besides, if I made a move, Boss Xiao would probably kill me. And anyway, I’m more into older women with curves. Don’t you think busty, shapely ladies are great?”

As he went on, Bu Jie’s expression grew more and more excited.

Cai Xun gave him a disgusted look that said, ‘This guy’s a lost cause,’ and raised a hand to stop him.

“You idiot, don’t go sharing your damn kinks here. Are you trying to make sure everyone knows you’re a total perv? There’s a little girl here, too. We don’t want to corrupt her.”

At that, Bu Jie realized there was a tiny Ye Lan standing beside them. Even he, thick-skinned as a wall, felt awkward.

He turned and saw Ye Lan staring at him, too.

She looked curious, and seemed like she wanted to join the conversation.

“Go on, don’t mind me. Older sisters are great~ But I like petite, cute girls even more!”

Cai Xun: “?”

Cai Xun stroked his chin, bent down, and studied Ye Lan’s eyes. She didn’t look like she was lying.

“I didn’t expect someone so young to be this mature. When I was your age, I was still playing dress-up with a few friends, pretending to transform into armored heroes.”

Bu Jie got interested, too.

“So it really is a kid’s preference. It’s normal to like people your own age. I know what this is—you like cute boys, right? I totally get it.”
