Chapter 37: Carrier's Hobby?

The final day of military training arrived. At Xi City University, seventeen formations of freshmen—boys and girls alike—marched past the reviewing stand in crisp unison. University leaders nodded approvingly, again and again.

Honestly? They actually pulled it off.

Amid the rhythmic stomping of boots, this year’s military training at Xi City University wrapped up perfectly.

The freshmen girls bolted straight to their dorms to shower and change.

Meanwhile, their senior sister Bai Ningning quietly trailed behind Formation 17, observing from the shadows.

The so-called “dangerous” fitness-girl class monitor had to stay behind to help the teacher sort rosters—no dismissal with the crowd for her.

Good. Safety alert cleared.

Qin Xin, determined not to be late later, dashed off the moment dismissal rang. Tall and slender, her long legs ate up the pavement—leaving even the boys in the dust as she vanished ahead of the throng.

Good. Whatever the danger was, the second safety alert was also cleared.

A sharp contrast to Qin Xin stood Nai Nai, the petite loli barely 1.5 meters tall. Her proportions were decent, sure—but height was height. Running fast? Impossible. Especially now, utterly drained.

Bai Ningning seized the moment, drifting beside her like it was accidental.

“Training’s over?”

An icy whisper brushed her ear. Nai Nai jolted like a startled rabbit.

“Eep!”

Recognizing the speaker, her cheeks flushed crimson. “S-Senior Sister! I-It’s you!”

“Mm.” Bai Ningning nodded. “It’s me.”

*Senior Sister?* She almost frowned. *Is there a “middle school sister”? “Elementary school sister”? “Grad student sister”?*

“How do you feel?” Bai Ningning asked casually.

“I-I’m okay,” Nai Nai murmured. “Just… a little tired.”

*Good. Tired means you’re alive. Comfort’s for the dead.*

Bai Ningning bit her lip, swallowing the words. Softly: “This afternoon’s a mini holiday. Rest well.”

“…Mm.”

Nai Nai nodded, heart sinking. *So Senior Sister wasn’t inviting me to hang out after all.*

Bai Ningning thought too: *Pity. Already promised the others. Bringing Nai Nai might… stir something up.*

She walked her a little farther, tossing out gentle reminders.

“Classes start tomorrow. Classrooms are tricky—stick with classmates.”

“Mm.”

“Club fair’s coming. Pick a comfy club. Protect yourself.”

“Mm.”

“Some electives mix freshmen and sophomores. We might share a class.”

“Mm… Huh?”

“Exactly. So we’ll meet again,” Bai Ningning offered a faint smile. “And if not—you’ve got my contact. Message anytime.”

“Mm-hmm… Mm.”

After seeing Nai Nai to the dorm entrance, Bai Ningning lingered below, waiting for her group.

Why look after this tiny loli? She wasn’t sure. Maybe just good vibes.

Bored, she scrolled her phone.

A message popped up from her ex-roommate.

Guan Qian: Da Bai Yuan! Classes start tomorrow—hang out this afternoon? Fun time? @Ningning Doesn’t Know

Ningning Doesn’t Know: Can’t. Volunteering with freshmen. Still on duty.

Guan Qian: Got it. So… any cute underclassmen boys catch your eye? Did you “crush” anyone? 😉

Ningning Doesn’t Know: What boys? What “crush”? Lost me.

Guan Qian: C’mon! They say you “big carriers” all love “crushing”… you know.

Bai Ningning’s brows twitched.

Ningning Doesn’t Know: Absolutely not. That’s a stereotype.

Ningning Doesn’t Know: Also—I’m only guiding girl freshmen. Zero boys.

Guan Qian: Alright, next time!

Unaware of Bai Ningning’s situation, her roommate just sighed admiringly. *So dedicated. Only takes girl freshmen. Truly loves her work.*

Soon after, the girls emerged—freshly showered, swapped sweat-soaked camo for breezy summer wear, smelling sweet and cool.

“Senior Bai, we’re here!” Ajin stepped forward first. “Where to?”

Qin Xin and the others watched eagerly.

Bai Ningning smiled mysteriously. “Don’t worry. Perfect spot for us.”

Fun. Relaxation. Team vibes. Zero strain for tired bodies after half a month of drills.

This place fit like a glove.

Thirty minutes later, the girls stood before an elegantly lit entrance, chilled air drifting out. They froze.

“Senior… you brought us… to an internet cafe?”

“Technically,” Bai Ningning pushed the door open, “a gaming cafe. Come in.”

Xi City’s top-tier gaming cafe: serene ambiance, premium gear, steep prices—and blissfully uncrowded.

Settled in a VIP booth, Bai Ningning gestured warmly. “Thought this through. Play, rest, recharge. Or tomorrow’s classes will wreck you.”

*Half a month of training… still wanna run around? Legs not tired enough?*

The girls blinked. Now that she mentioned it—yeah, exhaustion hit hard.

Bai Ningning’s pick was flawless: plush gaming chairs, slick rigs, and a kitchen whipping up savory stir-fries.

They shared a quick meal, then logged on. Later, huddled watching an LPL match—blood pressure spiking with every play.

“What *is* this? Ugh!”

“Absolute chaos.”

Bai Ningning stayed quiet. *This time, the rage isn’t on me.*

After the match, Lan Lan perked up. “Senior! Heard you play Dota. Teach us?”

Bai Ningning paused. “You’ve never played.”

“No worries! Bots are fine. Just wanna try!”

…Fine. Hard-mode bots still have teeth.

She sighed inwardly.

Guided into the game, Lan Lan squealed at a hero. “Whoa! He flies! Breathes ice *and* fire!”

“Which one?” Xiao Yi leaned over.

“Something about a two-headed dragon…”

“That’s Jakiro,” Bai Ningning cut in smoothly. “And watch your language.”
