Chapter 36: Thirty Years East of the Riv

Qin Yue took a deep breath and said as calmly as she could, “Ningning, this is such a warm moment. Could you maybe not say something so out of place?”

Damn it, why had it hurt back then?

Wasn’t it because you were so outrageously cocky that someone had no choice but to teach you a hard lesson?

The moment their first time sleeping together came up, Qin Yue couldn’t help recalling that day. Bai Ningning had been in her princess carry, little face cold, cute lips opening and closing.

‘That’s it?’

‘You mad? Mad, mad, mad?’

No, she couldn’t keep thinking about it. She was already getting annoyed.

Bai Ningning felt a little wronged inside. She thought big sis had definitely misunderstood what she meant.

“Yueyue-jie, I just think... this has a certain mood to it.”

Qin Yue’s eyelid twitched. “A mood?”

“At that moment,” Bai Ningning said with a straight face, “it was exactly like this moment.”

“So what?”

What, quit being all sarcastic and switched to talking in riddles instead?

“Nothing. I just want to express one thing,” the girl murmured. “Back then, you made me hurt first, then feel good. And now, everything’s reversed.”

Qin Yue was already not very clear-headed. Now she was completely dizzy from being talked in circles. “What exactly are you trying to say?”

Nothing much. She was just sighing over one tiny coincidence in life, and over this back-and-forth affection between them.

Bai Ningning thought about what words she should use.

Revenge for revenge?

No, that sounded too extreme.

Returning courtesy for courtesy?

That sounded a little too loaded, not great either.

Then she got it.

Qin Yue opened her eyes slightly and saw Bai Ningning keeping a straight little face, lips pressed together as she said,

“For thirty years, the river flows east. For thirty years, it flows west.”

The words landed with force.

A chill ran down Qin Yue’s back. She asked in alarm, “What are you trying to do?!”

“Massage you,” Bai Ningning said blankly. “Your temples.”

Hadn’t she already been doing that for a while?

But Qin Yue couldn’t lie there anymore. With a bit of effort, she climbed up from Bai Ningning’s lap pillow.

The girl’s thighs were fragrant and soft, sure. But when that same girl suddenly dropped a line like “for thirty years east, for thirty years west,” it was kind of terrifying.

Qin Yue wasn’t feeling well today. She had no strength, and she was a little panicked.

“No need,” she said. “You can stop now.”

Bai Ningning lowered her hands and blinked in confusion.

Hadn’t Aunt Zou said it should last around twenty minutes? It had only just started getting good, so why stop now?

Whatever. If not, then not. It saved her some effort too.

Qin Yue stretched her body, waking herself up from that half-dormant state. She picked up her bathrobe and headed for the bathroom, casually instructing, “I’m fine now. Go do whatever you want.”

“Oh.”

After soaking in the bathtub, Qin Yue still felt lingering fear.

She couldn’t do this again in the future. She couldn’t leave herself completely defenseless. No matter how angry she got, she had to at least leave herself enough strength to defend herself.

Also, why was this little green tea’s recovery ability so strong?

What would it take to pin her down so thoroughly that she wouldn’t be able to get up for days?

The warm moment ended, and the days that followed turned calm again.

Qin Yue enjoyed her leisurely vacation while thinking about how to turn up the intensity.

Every day, Bai Ningning went to school once to bring “senpai’s loving care” to the juniors in military training.

As for the 17th formation, she had thought of a solution too. She would watch from the side for a while, then wait until their break was almost over before going over to bring things to Qin Xin and Nana.

That way, even if the gym girl from the 17th formation caught her, they wouldn’t have time to say much before break ended.

The junior Qin Xin, who had been “sick” before, returned to the formation the very next day and looked perfectly fine.

Bai Ningning felt very gratified. She thought her junior recovering so quickly definitely had something to do with her visit.

At least one-third of the credit, probably.

As for Bai Ningning, she went to school every morning and came back at noon. Staying home with nothing to do was still boring, and Qin Yue didn’t like chatting with her, so she had to find something for herself.

She might as well learn massage from Aunt Zou. Slowly learn, slowly practice. One day she’d graduate.

As for her promise with President Ayane, she had found time to ask about it. President Ayane said she wanted to teach her dancing whenever she had time, but the problem was that she really had no time.

The club had only just been established. Its makeup was too complicated, and there were too many things to handle. It would take at least one or two months.

So life settled into a leisurely rhythm.

During that time, she even received two red envelopes from Qin Yue, saying they were “quietness awards.”

It was so random that she didn’t even know how to react.

In short, Bai Ningning’s little life here was relaxed and comfortable, while the juniors over there were living in misery. Half a month of military training had them counting every minute as they endured it.

But finally, it was almost over.

[Xiao Yi]: Just when I was about to die, it’s finally ending.

[Lanlan]: Haha, everyone’s been chatting so much. I stood at attention for a whole hour, passed out right after dismissal, and only just woke up.

[Ajin]: The only thing worth being thankful for is that I didn’t get tanned.

That was true. Even though the weather had been stuffy and hot these past days, there had been a lot of clouds, and the sun hadn’t been too harsh. In just half a month, they hadn’t gotten tanned.

That was pretty nice, all things considered.

That night, after showering, Bai Ningning lay on her bed playing on her phone. Seeing how lively the group chat was, she joined in too.

[Ningning Knows Nothing]: Military training’s almost over?

[Xiao Yi]: Yes, Senior Sister. It ends tomorrow at noon.

[Lanlan]: Tomorrow morning we’re going to the school stadium for a so-called “review ceremony,” and then it’s over.

[Ajin]: More specifically, we just march around once, pass by the podium, and that’s it. Just going through the motions.

[Qin Xin]: Mm.

Good grief, no different from our time at all.

[Ningning Knows Nothing]: Then let me congratulate you in advance.

[Xiao Yi]: Senior Sister, we’re finally done. Can you take us out to have fun tomorrow afternoon?

[Ajin]: Yeah, Senior Bai, let us taste the sweet after all this bitterness.

[Lanlan]: Senior, wuwuwuwu...

Bai Ningning swung her little feet as she typed: [Aren’t you tired? You still want to go out and play?]

Military training for that long was exhausting. Wouldn’t it feel amazing to flop onto the bed like she did? Why go out and play?

[Xiao Yi]: We are tired, really tired. But half a month of military training only gets us half a day off. If we don’t do something fun, it feels like a loss.

[Lanlan]: Exactly, exactly. Classes start tomorrow too. I’m crying.

Bai Ningning was startled.

Right, classes started tomorrow.

Good thing she didn’t have many classes this semester.

[Ajin]: Even if we’re tired, we still have to play. Please, Senior Bai, take us out one more time!

[Lanlan]: Please, Senior!!

[Xiao Yi]: Please, Senior Sister!!!

Even Qin Xin, who had been lurking, sent two words—

[I second that]

Well, what could she do? She was the gentle, considerate, understanding Senior Bai Ningning, with a chivalrous heart and a tender soul. She couldn’t just ignore her juniors’ request.

[Ningning Knows Nothing]: Alright then. I’ll take you out tomorrow afternoon.
