Xiao Feng headed to the spot Li Wei had named and soon arrived on foot at Yiding Internet Cafe, right across from Tianjing Water Park’s main gate.
“Welcome to Yiding Internet Cafe! How can I help you today?”
The female server at the door wore light makeup, had a fresh-faced look, and was dressed in a sailor uniform. Her greeting felt oddly formal. If Xiao Feng hadn’t known this was an internet cafe, he might’ve mistaken it for something else entirely.
“Internet access,” Xiao Feng replied flatly.
She smiled slightly, stepped aside, and gestured. “This way, please!”
Xiao Feng followed her to the front desk, topped up his account with his ID, then wandered inside to find Li Wei.
He quickly spotted an extremely conspicuous blond guy tucked in a far corner. Who else could it be but Li Wei?
Grinning, Xiao Feng strode over and slapped his shoulder. “You dragged good ol’ Dad here first thing to game? Said you had big news—spill it!”
Li Wei, totally absorbed in his match, nearly dropped his mouse. He turned, blinked in surprise, pulled off his headset, and grinned. “Log in fast! Dad’s got news for you after this round!”
Xiao Feng eyed Li Wei’s face—practically glowing with joy—and felt a flicker of curiosity. *Did he finally climb from Resilient Iron to Valiant Bronze? Or snag another stunning girl?*
Still wondering, Xiao Feng sat at the next terminal and booted up. Summer vacation had just started—what better place than an internet cafe?
He waited for Li Wei to finish, ready to duo queue. And yeah, “duo queue” meant *feeding* teammates. Both were legendary in their own weird way: trash at gaming, passionately so, and always blaming teammates for “not carrying them.”
After a few minutes, Xiao Feng couldn’t hold back. “Alright, what’s this ‘good news’? Tell me!”
Li Wei shot him a sly grin, flicked his blond hair with exaggerated coolness, and drawled, “Bro… I’m getting into the same university as you! Excited? Thrilled?”
Xiao Feng chuckled. “I never said where I’m applying. How’d you know?”
Li Wei snorted. “Pfft. Does Dad not know his son? You’re staying in H Province, right? Not chasing Xia Xue to that college in X City?”
Xiao Feng smiled wryly. “Yeah… pretty much.”
Li Wei let out a disdainful “Tch!” “Of course! We brothers stick together!”
Xiao Feng shot back with a laugh, “Like hell! Did your dad pull strings for a provincial school? With your grades, you’d be lucky to get into vocational college!”
Li Wei gave him a “you-get-me” look. “Provincial Key Information and Arts College. Just apply. Don’t tell me you can’t get in.”
Xiao Feng’s mood soured. “Damn. Money and connections make life easy. Not all of us are like that.”
(Truth was, he’d already planned to apply there too. Even without Li Wei’s hint.)
“*This* is your ‘good news’?” Xiao Feng asked, voice dripping with contempt.
Li Wei laughed. “Son, isn’t it? We’ll chase girls and have fun together again! Doesn’t that sound awesome?!”
“Get lost! When have I ever partied with you?” Xiao Feng shot back—but inside, he was smiling. Li Wei had been his ironclad buddy since middle school. Anyone would be happy to keep studying together.
Too busy talking, their in-game characters froze. Their neglected teammates had already started raging:
“The hell?! Are the bottom laners orphans?! Team fight’s happening! Why are you just standing in the bush?!”
Xiao Feng played ADC; Li Wei was support. They’d completely forgotten the game. While the team fought, the two were still crouched in the grass, spacing out.
Li Wei glanced at the screen, panicked, and maneuvered his hero toward the river. “Hurry, son! Protect Dad while I initiate!”
“Son? *I’m* the damage dealer! *You’re* support—you tank, I output! Don’t feed me!”
As the two chaotic duo fed their team further, outside the cafe, a black stretch limo sat parked right at Tianjing Water Park’s gate, drawing stares. Inside, a silver-haired loli in a beige dress stared intently at the passing crowd, her captivating eyes shimmering with anticipation—and faint tears from staring too long. Yet the person she sought remained unseen.
If only she knew Xiao Feng was right across the street, laughing and gaming away… what a priceless expression she’d make.
