Chapter 2: Must You Flee Just Because Yo

Inside the town guard station, Su Hong sat by the table.

Across from him sat the young girl from the guard squad.

The girl kept her head lowered, carefully reading through the gamblers' statements and evidence. Her face didn't change much, but inside, storm waves were already crashing.

They hadn't arrested the wrong person. But compared to evidence against the casino boss, these gamblers had said far more about this boy instead.

[Statement 1: When things turned ugly at the casino, he wasn't scared at all. I swear, he's got more guts than anyone I've ever seen! He still walked forward with a blade at his neck, and scared that guy so badly he only dared back away! Every single step could've gotten him killed, but he took more than twenty steps in a row! That's like betting his life over twenty times straight, and his legs didn't even go weak once!]

[Statement 2: This guy's insane. He won eleven rounds in a row! He turned 1 gold coin into 2,000! He definitely used tricks even better than the casino's. He's basically the God of Gambling! ...]

When Lia got to that point, she couldn't help lifting her gaze.

The boy had the rather rare combination of black hair and black eyes. He looked clean-cut and handsome, but his face carried a helpless, hollow expression. He seemed to own only this one set of sleepwear. His body wasn't especially strong, but it definitely wasn't frail either.

"My name is Lia. I'm the acting captain of the local guard. What's your name?"

Su Hong was still drowning in the frustration of being tormented by his luck. He answered casually, "Su Hong."

"Su... Hong? That's quite a rare name."

Lia looked him up and down carefully. She felt like this boy gave off an air of mystery from head to toe.

Skilled at gambling, unbelievably brave, feared even by the boss of an underground casino, and admired by the gamblers themselves... someone like this was just...

Far too suspicious. Far too dangerous!!

Lia stood up and straightened the statements in her hands. "Sorry. Your case is far too complicated. I'll need to report it to the city lord and let him decide."

Su Hong slumped back in his chair, utterly dispirited.

He'd thought coming to another world would let him escape his luck. It didn't. He'd seen that flashy, handsome red crystal blade and thought it might finally hurt him. It still didn't! The blade hadn't even had time to fall before Die Shou and the others were all arrested.

Just how was he supposed to get rid of this luck? Or was it only because that Die Shou guy was too weak?

Su Hong pressed a hand to his forehead in distress. Distracted, he nodded and said, "And then? You'll let me go, right? Knew it'd be like this..."

"No. Before the city lord makes a decision, for the safety of the townspeople, we'll have to hold you in prison first. Is that okay?"

"What? Prison?!"

Su Hong shot to his feet.

That was prison! A terrible place where criminals were locked up! They were actually going to throw him in prison. Did that mean everything before really had just been a coincidence? Did that cursed luck finally leave him?!

"That's great! Please, by all means, send me in!"

Su Hong's excited answer left Lia stunned. She couldn't understand why being sent to prison would make someone this thrilled.

Still, confused or not, Lia quietly let out a breath of relief. Even the underground casino hadn't been able to do anything to him. Someone like this might be extremely dangerous. If he refused imprisonment and fought back, things could get very bad.

"T-Then please, come with me."

Su Hong followed behind her, full of anticipation. Under Lia's escort, he was handed over to the prison guards.

It seemed the town didn't have enough manpower or enough space, so the prison was located right in the back courtyard of the guard station.

The moment Su Hong stepped inside, a terrified cry suddenly rang out and startled him.

But when he followed the sound, it was actually Die Shou and the others from the casino.

The prison guard immediately turned and glared at Su Hong. "I heard you're not exactly simple. This town only has one prison. Don't go scaring them."

"They're the ones who scared me, okay?!"

The guard answered with a face full of disbelief. Then he opened the barred cell next to Die Shou's and locked Su Hong inside.

"Food and prison clothes will be brought over soon. Sit tight and behave."

Food and prison clothes too?

Su Hong's expression turned a little strange. He looked down at the sleepwear he was wearing and sharply sensed that something was off.

It solved food and lodging, and he even got a change of clothes?

"No, no, no. I must be overthinking this. It's still a prison, no matter what..."

Su Hong casually sat down by the barred door, steadying his confidence while waiting for the food and clothes.

At that moment, Die Shou next door seemed to have recovered from his fear. A broken, sinister chuckle came from his cell.

"Kid, didn't expect you'd end up here too. I thought you were some big shot, but you got locked up just the same? Why don't you cry for us a little? Hahaha..."

The other casino men immediately joined in. Their laughter echoed out, and before long, the whole prison was filled with mockery and ridicule aimed at Su Hong.

Su Hong only curled his lip in disdain.

These idiots didn't understand at all. If he'd really escaped his luck and still ended up in prison, then forget crying. The fact that he wasn't laughing out loud already took effort.

But that clearly left Die Shou very dissatisfied.

He'd only just managed to recover some confidence. If he couldn't bully this brat into tears here, how was he supposed to reclaim the dignity of a casino boss?

"Kid, the food here won't fill you up. If you apologize to me a hundred times, and cry with a bit of rhythm, I'll teach you how to beg the guards for extra food. My patience is limited. Miss this chance, and don't regret it when you starve to death!"

The other casino men immediately stuck their arms out through the bars and started chanting, "Apologize! Apologize! Apologize..."

But right then, the prison guard happened to walk in carrying a stack of meal trays. He shouted angrily, "What's all this noise?! Quiet down, all of you!"

The guard seemed to want to make an example out of someone. But just as he rushed to Su Hong's cell, his feet tangled together in his haste.

As he fell, his head slammed straight into the sharp corner of a tray. With a dull thud, he passed out on the spot.

Not only did all the meal trays and prison clothes land right outside Su Hong's cell, even the keys flew from the guard's hand, slid through the gap at the bottom, and stopped perfectly by Su Hong's feet.

"..."

The entire prison fell dead silent.

Everyone's eyes were still on Su Hong, but the mockery in them had turned into unease and regret.

Die Shou stared at the key by Su Hong's feet, looking like he wanted to cry but had no tears left. This was a perfect chance to escape! But he'd just bullied the guy. How could he possibly ask him to open the door now?!

Su Hong lowered his head and looked at the key by his feet. His face couldn't have looked uglier.

After all that, his luck still hadn't disappeared?!

So coming to prison was just for a meal and a change of clothes?

No! He absolutely refused to go along with this cursed luck! So what if the key had been delivered right to him? He wasn't leaving!

Under everyone's stunned and baffled gaze, Su Hong angrily dragged a meal tray over. Then, in an orderly and unhurried way, he began eating by himself.

Die Shou in the next cell was even more shaken. He couldn't help recalling what had happened back at the casino.

The same shocking absurdity. The same calm composure.

If it had been anyone else, they would've thrown the door open in excitement and crawled out scrambling to escape. But this guy... he wasn't in any hurry at all. He actually changed clothes and started eating!

Compared to being trapped by the prison, it felt more like he was the prison's owner.

Whether back in the casino or right now, he hadn't changed at all. He was still that terrifying man.
