"These are your parents," a kind-faced police officer said, leading Xiaohan to the lounge.
This was the police station next to Zhengcheng Orphanage.
The child trafficking case from nearly twenty years ago had been solved. Xiaohan was one of the first lost children to reunite with their parents.
She felt a mix of excitement and unease.
Excitement because she’d finally found her parents. Unease because she worried this might disrupt her current life.
It had been quite some time since the system turned her into a girl. She’d gradually gotten used to it.
Her old life had been completely upended by the system. Chunan took her in out of pity. The system tasked him with becoming a top streamer. He’d made solid progress, so the mission seemed tough but doable.
Now, Chunan earned tens of thousands monthly. She acted as the household mascot. Together, they pulled in a comfortable income.
She’d considered finding a job again, but Chunan refused. He worried that in her current state, she’d get sold before landing work. "Being beautiful isn’t bad," he’d said, "but being drop-dead gorgeous yet clueless is risky. With so many bad people around, I’ve gotta watch out for you—don’t want you accidentally having three kids before you blink."
Xiaohan had fought him over it. She lost.
Cough.
Her life had already undergone one massive upheaval. She dreaded a second one too soon.
This tension lasted until she entered the lounge.
Inside sat three people: a middle-aged couple and a mature woman who looked slightly older than her. Their resemblance was striking—they were clearly sisters.
All three stood up as she entered. The woman rushed around the table and hugged her. "Han’er!"
Xiaohan’s body stiffened slightly.
She wasn’t ready. Unsure how to face these… family members.
"There, there, don’t scare her," the man said gently. "We have time. Now that we’re reunited, we’ll see our daughter plenty."
The mature woman approached but stood quietly beside Xiaohan, gazing at her as if memorizing her face.
Heartfelt reunions followed. Xiaohan slowly relaxed.
Through the chat, she learned about her family. The woman was her older sister, Xiao Ya. The couple were her parents. Surprisingly, they were extremely wealthy—owning multiple big companies. In simple terms, she was a super-rich heiress.
It felt unreal.
Her family naturally wanted to take her home after twenty years apart. But Xiaohan refused.
"It’s not that I don’t want to go home," she said. "I have a good friend, Chunan. He’s cared for me since childhood… I can’t just vanish."
Her parents nodded. "We understand. We won’t rush you. Xiao Ya will stay here. Once you settle things, come home, okay?"
Their youngest daughter had built her own life. Knowing she hadn’t suffered much was their greatest relief. They were deeply grateful to Chunan.
Xiaohan pursed her lips. "Okay."
Her parents left. They couldn’t abandon their business empire. Rushing here showed their care. With Xiao Ya staying, they weren’t worried.
Xiao Ya drove Xiaohan in a luxury SUV. It was Xiaohan’s first time in such a car. She felt a thrill, realizing her family’s wealth anew. Her sister didn’t look much older yet drove a million-dollar vehicle…
"Sis?" Xiaohan asked, noticing Xiao Ya’s stare after buckling up.
Earlier, Xiao Ya had mostly watched silently during the family chat. Now, she kept staring—as if etching Xiaohan into her memory.
Though biologically sisters, they felt like strangers. Xiaohan was uneasy.
Xiao Ya was silent for a moment. "I’m sorry," she said softly.
"Huh? Why?"
"If I hadn’t been careless that year, you wouldn’t have gotten lost," Xiao Ya replied, her tone gentle despite her calm face. "It won’t happen again. With me here, no one will bully you."
"Ah… not many bullied me before," Xiaohan murmured. "Chunan protected me. He’d fight anyone who messed with me."
Xiao Ya studied her but said nothing more.
They returned to Chunan’s home.
Chunan was watching TV. Seeing Xiaohan, he instinctively asked, "Done meeting your family?"
He then spotted Xiao Ya behind her.
"Hello, I’m Xiaohan’s sister, Xiao Ya," she said calmly. "Thank you for caring for her all these years."
Chunan paused. "It was my duty."
Xiao Ya left after a brief chat.
Xiaohan immediately pounced beside Chunan, grinning. "You won’t believe how awesome my family is!"
"How awesome?" Chunan raised an eyebrow.
"Let me put it this way," Xiaohan clapped her hands. "I’m coming clean—I’m a super-rich heiress."
"Oh."
"...That’s it? No reaction?"
"What’d you expect?" Chunan tilted his head. "You gonna support me financially?"
Xiaohan huffed smugly. "Call me ‘Daddy’ a few times, and I might consider it."
"Fine. Will you pay off my mortgage after?"
"..."
She sat back. "I don’t have money yet."
Chunan didn’t press it. After a moment, he asked quietly, "Will you go home?"
Xiaohan hesitated.
She hadn’t decided.
As a kid, she’d envied others with families. But after years alone—or rather, with Chunan—she’d grown used to it. Staying put didn’t feel bad.
But… her parents clearly wanted her back.
Seeing her conflicted expression, Chunan simply said, "I respect your choice."
