Side Story 2: If Chu Nan Had Rejected th

Fortune favors the bold. Things didn’t spiral into utter disaster after all.

The system did deliver rewards—it was just that Xiaohan hadn’t figured it out yet. After fumbling with the interface like an old-timer learning a vintage phone, they finally unlocked the starter package.

Well, not exactly a *starter* package. The system had assigned Chunan an extra quest: become a superstar streamer. Since she was already a moderately famous streamer with a solid follower count, she’d instantly cleared multiple quest stages. The rewards poured in—bundles of cash and a Dimensional Library.

Perhaps because the quest belonged to Chunan, the library manifested inside *her* mind. It held Earth’s finest works from her past life: movies, songs, everything needed to pave her way into the entertainment industry.

A flicker of hope sparked in Chunan.

She immediately forced Xiaohan to quit his job, cancel his guitar lessons, and move out of his messy apartment. After packing up his belongings, they returned to her place together.

This sudden upheaval kept her off-stream for days. Beyond helping Xiaohan move, she had preparations to make. Pushing him into stardom required more than just a guitar—he’d need tools to create full works, at minimum original songs. The millions from the system would cover the costs.

Notably, the cash landed directly in Xiaohan’s account. The guy, likely handling such wealth for the first time, stayed up all night buzzing with excitement—keeping Chunan awake too. By morning, the pretty girl sported dark circles under her eyes.

Xiaohan felt a pang of guilt.

Still, when he learned Chunan planned to spend the money on "useless gadgets," he almost refused—until one sharp glare from her made him cave immediately.

Chunan seriously doubted Xiaohan could’ve ever completed that system quest alone.

As for launching him into the spotlight? She had a plan.

One night, after a long silence, her stream finally went live.

Chat exploded with excitement:

[Bro Chu’s back!]

[She’s here! Missed you every day, Bro!]

[…]

Chunan’s expression tightened as she read the messages.

After her gender shift, the system had rewritten this world’s records—*corrected* them. Everyone except Xiaohan now believed she’d always been a girl. Her entire streaming history, even archived footage, now featured her current voice and face.

But hard resets left glitches. A girl with her looks and skills should’ve drawn far more fans. Even with altered memories, viewers sensed something off:

[Bro Chu turned on her cam today!]

[Wife’s even prettier now.]

[Why does Bro look extra good today? Same face as always… makeup?]

[Random viewer: Why call a girl "Bro"?]

[Because she’s Bro Chu. Don’t question it.]

[Her streaming style’s boyish, but I love it—plus she’s gorgeous.]

[…]

The proof was undeniable: her stream’s heat doubled the moment she turned on the camera, silent and idle.

*The perks of being a girl,* she sighed inwardly. Clearing her throat, she addressed chat: "Alright, everyone… let’s try something fun today."

She yanked Xiaohan into frame. "Meet my childhood friend, Xiaohan. Or ‘Silly Dog’ works too—"

"Hey! I’m right here!" Xiaohan protested.

"Quiet. My show." Chunan shot him a look. "We’re playing a new versus game. Loser performs something… entertaining."

Predictably, chat ignored the game entirely after Xiaohan appeared. Chunan paid no mind, dragging him into match after match. With his gaming skills, she didn’t just win—she annihilated him.

The loser’s penalty? Singing.

Xiaohan’s guitar finally found purpose. He strummed fresh songs Chunan had taught him—originals unknown to this world. His youthful voice paired with simple chords created surprisingly moving performances.

Early comments mocked their dynamic, but after a few songs, attention shifted to the music:

[So good! Are these originals? Never heard them!]

[No way he’s not a pro! Why can’t I find these songs anywhere?]

[Are they on streaming platforms? I’ll buy them!]

[…]

Exactly as Chunan planned. To avoid seeming too calculated, she ended the stream by singing one herself—a performance that left nearly every viewer spellbound.

Afterward, she uploaded a clip of Xiaohan singing "Youth" to her account. She’d spent two days editing it, perfecting every frame.

Riding the stream’s viral wave, the video shot to homepage #1 overnight. By next morning, Chunan received a call: Dawn Entertainment wanted to discuss contracts.

The first step was taken—and with a major agency, no less.

"Dawn Entertainment? They really want to sign me as an artist?" Xiaohan still sounded dazed. "What about you?"

"I’ll be your manager," Chunan rolled her eyes. "With your cluelessness, you’d die in this industry before lunch. Someone’s gotta babysit you."

"…"

Silence hung for a beat. Then, as if to prove himself, Xiaohan grabbed Chunan’s wrist, yanked her onto the bed, and pinned her wrists above her head. He loomed over her, grinning fiercely. "Things are different now! Watch your tone, or… hmph. Don’t blame me for being rough."

Chunan’s eyes narrowed.

Then she arched up, gently biting his neck.

The unfamiliar sensation made Xiaohan flinch back instinctively, releasing her wrists to stop her. The moment he let go, Chunan’s arms snapped up, yanking his head down. In one fluid motion, she flipped him over and straddled his waist. "Rough? *Different*?" Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Let me show you exactly how *different* things are."

"…What are you doing?! Okay, okay—I’m sorry! Stop!!"

[…]

As their first step into the entertainment world landed, the calm of their old lives began stirring with little ripples.
