"Did I not go today? Does Old Man Liang know?" Lin Jin rubbed her little belly and let out a satisfied burp.
"Don’t worry. I’ve already taken leave for you."
Qin Yi quietly worked on Question 21 of the 2016 Gaokao math paper. In just minutes, he’d filled a page of scratch paper.
"You…" The Kitten Girl felt ignored—disappointed and annoyed. She snatched Qin Yi’s phone.
"What’re you looking at? Huh? This year’s math paper’s out?"
"Mm." Qin Yi stopped writing and circled a number.
"You solved it?"
How could he finish Question 21 so fast? Lin Jin, who’d struggle with part one, felt a pang of jealousy.
"No." Qin Yi was blunt.
Lin Jin’s mood instantly lifted.
"The value range for part two is tricky to prove." Qin Yi twirled his pen. "I took a week’s leave for you."
"That long?!" The Kitten Girl overreacted. She threw his phone on the bed and grabbed his uniform collar. "What if I fall behind in review? What if I can’t get into a good university? Are you responsible?"
"I am."
Qin Yi’s calm face shattered the Kitten Girl.
"Are you doing this on purpose?" Lin Jin yelled, yanking his collar. "On purpose to make me like this! On purpose to ruin my college chances! On purpose to destroy me!"
Her sudden changes and pent-up panic made her lash out, fixating on an impossible conspiracy.
*Slap.*
A crisp slap echoed.
Five red finger marks bloomed on her flawless face.
"Do you really think I’m that kind of person?"
Qin Yi’s expression stayed calm, but icy chill radiated from him.
"Calm down alone."
He pried her hands off his collar, grabbed his biology textbook for Compulsory Course Two, and walked out.
Just as his hand touched the doorknob, a soft body hugged him fiercely from behind.
She buried her face in his back, arms locked around his waist, sobbing apologies.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry…"
"It’s my fault…"
"Don’t be mad…"
Feeling dampness seep through his uniform, Qin Yi sighed.
Little Lin Jin had always been moody as the weather—making his heart soften.
"Lin Jin."
He turned, staring into her emerald green eyes.
"I took a week’s leave so you can figure out how to handle this."
"What exactly do you plan to do?"
