2. The Unlucky One? It's Me!

Ye Xinyan wore a faint smile, arms crossed over her chest, eyes slightly narrowed as she stared fixedly toward the formation.

Everyone felt a flicker of confusion at the sight.

Was the campus beauty here to find someone?

No, that couldn’t be right…

If she really needed to meet someone, she’d just text them. Why brave this scorching heat?

Especially during military training—unless… she was looking for her boyfriend.

Hmph.

Even less likely.

To everyone, Ye Xinyan was untouchable—aloof, never initiating a conversation with any guy on campus.

She was pure, angelic in their eyes.

How could an angel possibly date a mere mortal?

Her arrival sparked instant chaos.

Upperclassmen swarmed around her. One hoisted a giant sunshade from the convenience store to block the sun. Another fanned her vigorously. A third sprinted off to buy iced cola.

They dropped their usual haughty airs, faces plastered with simpering grins like desperate simps, tails wagging for a single glance.

They knew their chances were near zero.

But under Ye Xinyan’s glow, even being a simp felt worth it.

She was perfect—pale skin, stunning looks, wealthy family, never dated. Was she even human?

No. An angel.

Ye Xinyan’s eyes swept over them with icy indifference. Her voice was cool, detached:

“No need. Everyone disperse. Don’t disturb the freshmen’s training.”

“Is she a lesbian? Why’s she looking at us like we’re cockroaches?” Cheng Hao thought.

He’d heard Ye Xinyan ignored relentless suitors, barely acknowledging guys who spoke to her.

Yet she was warm with girls—a stark contrast.

Rumors said she was a lesbian, naturally repulsed by men.

Still, the simps chased her. “Fixing” her orientation felt thrilling.

Honestly, they had zero self-awareness. Cheng Hao almost pitied them.

Ye Xinyan ignored the admirers, scanning the crowd as if searching for someone.

Suddenly, her eyes narrowed. A bright smile curved her lips. Her gaze locked onto a spot.

Cheng Hao felt she was smiling at him—almost flirtatiously.

No, that’s impossible.

It was only day two. He barely knew who she was, let alone her knowing him.

Just his imagination.

Amid his thoughts, excited whispers erupted:

“Did you see? The campus beauty’s looking at me!”

“Bullshit! She’s smiling at me!”

“Shut up, both of you. Get a mirror. Zero self-awareness.”

Boys in the formation argued fiercely, each convinced she sought them.

“Heh. Frogs dreaming of swan meat,” a freshman muttered under his breath, eyeing them like monkeys.

Only he heard himself. He was sure Ye Xinyan came for him.

Yang Wei—son of Donghai University’s board director.

He wasn’t close to Ye Xinyan, but their fathers did business. He’d met her once at a banquet.

Since then, he’d been obsessed with the Ye heiress.

His father’s influence secured his admission. He planned to win her over these next years.

Handsome, from a decent family—almost her equal.

So of course she’d come for him. Who else here deserved her?

“I wonder how those poor losers will react when they learn she’s here for me,” Yang Wei mused.

As Ye Xinyan drew closer, every eye followed her. Who was she after?

Cheng Hao was curious too. If she sought a girl, fine. But a guy? He’d get mobbed to death.

He smirked, almost hoping it was a boy—just to watch the poor bastard get pummeled.

Yang Wei took a deep breath, stepping forward with a warm smile:

“Sis Xinyan, here to see me? No need to trouble yourself. Just text me next time—”

Ye Xinyan brushed past him like air, stopping right before Cheng Hao.

“What? Not for me?” Yang Wei stared at her back, dazed as if struck.

Her next words shattered not just Yang Wei—but every Donghai University guy’s reality:

“Freshman, it’s so hot. You must be thirsty.”

“Here. Senior sister’s treating you to an ice pop.”

Sunlight kissed her smile. Her hands clasped behind her back.

A warm breeze fluttered her skirt and long hair, radiating youthful charm.

???

Cheng Hao froze, staring at the beautiful girl.

What the hell?

The campus beauty brought me ice cream?

So… the unlucky bastard is me?!

Is she trying to get me beaten to death?

No way. I don’t even know her!

What grudge could she possibly have?

As his mind short-circuited, Ye Xinyan’s gentle voice cut through:

“What’s wrong? Afraid I poisoned it?”

Silence crashed over the noisy field.

Everyone stood frozen, gaping at the scene like it was a rom-com.

Since when did campus beauties hand ice pops to freshmen?

And that flirty tone—what the actual hell?!
