"Su Shui! I'll cook dinner tonight~" Lin Ning clapped her hands at him.
"Huh? What's gotten into you today?" Su Shui placed his hand on her forehead. "No fever. Why the sudden urge to do housework?!"
"Shoo, shoo!" Lin Ning slapped his hand away, annoyed. "I just found housework kinda fun~"
"But... can you even?" Su Shui had never seen Lin Ning cook in his life.
"What's so hard about it!" Lin Ning thumped her chest. "Online tutorials make it look easy!"
"Well..." Su Shui hesitated, eyeing her warily.
"Come on, it'll be fine~"
"Alright, go ahead." Su Shui turned toward the living room, but Lin Ning grabbed his sleeve.
"Wait~" she said hesitantly. "Help me light the stove? I-I'm scared~"
"Sure, call me when you need it~"
...
...
Faced with a table full of ingredients, Lin Ning felt lost.
What to cook first? Hot weather called for cold dishes~
Scallion tofu salad~ First, cube the tofu~
Lin Ning grabbed a block—and crumbled half of it with one squeeze.
"No big deal. Some recipes use crumbled tofu~"
She started crumbling the rest with her hands.
The tofu was soft and slippery. Kinda fun, like playing with sand.
"Wait—I'm supposed to be cooking!"
She dumped the messy tofu into a bowl. The recipe said "one spoon of salt"—but which spoon?
She held a soup spoon, a coffee spoon, and a large cooking spoon.
Almost unconsciously, Lin Ning chose the tiniest coffee spoon.
She sprinkled a teaspoon of salt, vinegar, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
"Taste test~"
She scooped a chunk drenched in seasonings without mixing.
"Cooking's easy! Just a bit salty~ I'll fix it next time~"
Time for stir-fry~
Staring at the vegetable pile, she had no clue.
"Whatever—they're all veggies. Just toss 'em in!"
She poured oil into the pan. How much?
"Too much oil's bad for you. Better go light~"
Carefully, she added one coffee-spoonful of oil.
"Perfect—not a drop spilled! That's me!"
The oil vanished the moment it hit the pan.
Lin Ning grabbed eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes, scallions—chopped haphazardly and dumped them in.
As a meat-lover, she couldn't stand the veggie overload.
"So plain. Gotta add meat~"
She dropped Su Shui's pre-cut meat into the pan.
Stirring gently with a big spoon, she noticed eggplant sticking to the bottom.
"Huh? What's wrong?"
She recalled Su Shui's egg-frying advice:
"Don't panic if it sticks. It'll loosen when cooked..."
"Right! Eggplant works the same!"
Convinced, Lin Ning covered the pan and headed to the living room.
...
...
"Hahaha!"
Su Shui, Lin Ning, and Su Qing sat on the sofa, laughing at the show.
"You finished already?" Su Shui suddenly remembered dinner.
"Nope, simmering. Almost ready."
"Oh, okay~ Hahaha!"
Half an hour flew by.
Lin Ning lay on Su Shui's lap, munching an apple.
"Hey, Su Shui—I'm starving~"
"Got it, I'll... wait, wasn't it your turn to cook?!"
They exchanged a glance and bolted to the kitchen.
"Holy crap!"
Thick smoke poured from the pan; the exhaust fan whirred wildly.
"W-what do we do?!" Lin Ning's eyes welled up.
"Don't panic! It's fine."
Su Shui rushed over and shut off the gas.
"Mind telling me what dish this is?" He stared at the charcoal chunks.
"Stir-fried veggies~"
"Why cover a stir-fry?!"
"You said things unstick if you wait~" Lin Ning pouted at him.
"Alright~" Su Shui sighed at the ruined pan. "Babe, I'm craving KFC!"
...
...
KFC boxes covered the table. Normally, Su Shui banned this junk food.
But today, suggesting KFC saved his wife from embarrassment.
"This burger's awful~" Lin Feng scowled at his KFC burger—he was a big shot from abroad.
"Really? I like it~" Su Qing munched hers, confused.
Lin Feng took a huge bite. "My bad—it's delicious!"
Su Qing grinned, burger in hand; Lin Feng beamed at her.
On the sofa's other side, Lin Ning sighed at her burger.
"Su Shui... am I a terrible wife~" she whispered.
"Why? You're perfect!"
"How?!" Lin Ning's voice rose. "I can't cook or clean—you redo everything I—"
Su Shui stuffed her mouth with his burger.
"None of that matters. We agreed: you handle the outside world, I handle home~"
"Huh?"
"You earn the money. I take care of you~"
"Su Shui~~~~~"
"Wifey~~~~"
They leaned closer... closer...
"Cough! Cough cough!" Su Qing hacked violently from the side.
They snapped apart, sitting at opposite ends.
"Choked?" Lin Feng handed her water. Su Qing glared at the two innocents.
...
...
"Honey, clear the table~" Su Shui called, arms full of empty boxes.
"Nope!" Lin Ning sipped iced Coke. "I've figured it out—I don't do chores!"
She stepped up, lifting his chin with a finger.
"So I'm keeping you now? My little pretty boy!"
"Tch, busted!" Su Shui grinned. "Dear sugar mama, help carry these~"
"Fine~ Since you begged~"
