What’s going on? Did we get robbed?!

Su Shui opened his eyes, just waking up, to find himself tied to a chair with thick hemp ropes.

He didn’t dare make a sound, quickly shutting his eyes to pretend he was still asleep.

He secretly opened them a slit, carefully observing his surroundings.

The bedroom was still messy. The wallet on the table was there. The ring on his finger was still on.

‘Not after money?! So they’re after my body?!’

Wife, save me!

While Su Shui sat lost in thought, a strange sound came from outside the room.

‘Shhk-shhk-shhk~’

With over two years of cooking for his wife, Su Shui knew that sound—it was knife sharpening!

Were they planning to kill him first or violate him first?

No! He’d promise not to resist. He’d even offer condoms!

He tilted his ear, listening closely. Faintly, a woman’s voice reached him.

“This guy… divorce… I’ll kill him!”

Su Shui grew more panicked. Just hearing those keywords made cold sweat slide down his forehead.

‘Could Lin Ning have hired someone to kill me?! No! Darling, I love you!’

He couldn’t leave his life in others’ hands. Su Shui struggled hard, refusing to surrender.

But the ropes were tied tight. His hands were bound behind his back. No matter how he pulled, they stayed firm.

He tried to stand, but his legs were tied to the chair’s front legs.

Su Shui wriggled like a big worm, only feeling the ropes tighten more.

‘A pro’s knot—it tightens when you struggle!’

He even admired the ‘thug’s’ craftsmanship.

Suddenly, high heels clicked on the floor. Scared, Su Shui shut his eyes tight.

‘Tap, tap, tap~’

Each step felt like it landed on his heart. His body trembled with the rhythm.

‘Click’—the door opened.

Footsteps drew closer. Someone stood before him.

A faint, familiar fragrance drifted from them.

Slowly, Su Shui opened his eyes. There stood his long-unseen wife, Lin Ning.

Seeing her with hands behind her back, Su Shui finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“Wifey, kissy-kissy~ You scared me to death!”

Su Shui fawned over, rubbing against her, tears welling in his eyes.

Lin Ning’s heart softened at his pitiful look.

She reached to untie him but remembered his in-game ‘wife’.

‘Why get another “wife” online? Is he tired of me? Did my busy schedule give him chances to cheat…’

Lin Ning stood lost in wild thoughts. Su Shui watched eagerly, waiting for rescue.

Her thoughts twisted darker. Anger flared.

She spun Su Shui to face the door.

“Wife, what are you doing?!” Su Shui sensed something was off.

Liu Shuang appeared at the doorway in a suit and white wig.

To Su Shui, she was a savior. “Sister Liu Shuang, save me!”

Liu Shuang ignored him, walking to Lin Ning’s side.

“Court is in session!” She held a small wooden hammer and ‘thud’ it on the table.

“What is this? What’s happening?”

“Defendant, shut up! Not your turn yet!” Liu Shuang raised the hammer, pointing at Su Shui.

Su Shui obediently closed his mouth.

“Plaintiff, begin questioning!”

Liu Shuang handed the hammer to Lin Ning. Lin Ning slammed it down hard.

Under Su Shui’s terrified gaze, the handle snapped. The head spun, flying straight to hit Lin Ning’s head.

“Ouch!”

Lin Ning took the blow squarely. Su Shui wanted to laugh but held it in.

He sat head down, shoulders trembling slightly as he fought not to giggle.

Liu Shuang quickly gathered the hammer’s remains, rubbing Lin Ning’s forehead.

Lin Ning shook her head, still glaring fiercely at Su Shui, teeth gritted.

“Su Shui, do you have someone on the outside?!”

“What?! Are you dreaming again?!” Su Shui stared dumbfounded.

He said this because once, she’d dreamed he hid savings. She’d believed it real, searching for days. Only after telling him did she realize it was a dream. Since then, any off-base remark from her earned a “you’re dreaming” from him.

But this time, Lin Ning knew she wasn’t dreaming. She had proof on her phone.

Arms crossed, she looked at Su Shui with disappointment.

“Just confess! Which fox spirit bewitched you?!”

“What fox spirit?! What are you talking about?!”

“Don’t pretend. I have evidence. Confess now for leniency!”

“What exactly?! I admit I hid gacha money, but what’s this about?!”

“See for yourself!”

Lin Ning showed him the phone photo. It displayed his computer screen—a notification that his gaming buddy had gone offline.

“It’s just a game. What’s wrong?”

“How dare you ask?!” Lin Ning glared, pulling a gleaming kitchen knife from behind her back. “I’m giving you a chance to explain!”

Liu Shuang sighed, walking to Su Shui’s side. “Look—what’s with this ‘wife’?!”

“Oh! You mean this!” Su Shui finally understood her fox spirit talk. “Just an online friend from gaming!”

“Then why ‘wife’?!”

“To boost combat power! Besides, no real girls play that game!”

“Really?”

“Really! When he logs on, we’ll voice chat to prove my innocence!”

Seeing Su Shui’s “I’m innocent, not worried” look, Lin Ning relaxed slightly.

“Who cares? Do whatever. It’s none of my business!”

Lin Ning raised the knife and swung it at Su Shui.

“Ah!” Su Shui shut his eyes tight, body rigid.

After a moment, no missing parts or wounds. He slowly opened his eyes.

The ropes lay cut and scattered on the floor.

Lin Ning had turned away, stuffing underwear from the wardrobe into a bag, ready to leave.

“Don’t go! You’re back after so long—stay for a meal~”

“No!”

Lin Ning slung the overstuffed bag over her shoulder and walked out. In her heart: “Damn Su Shui, you should have stopped me!”

Unexpectedly, Su Shui eagerly ran to her side, taking the bag.

“Let me carry it for you!”

Yes, Su Shui was that kind of magical man.

Lin Ning wanted to chop this clueless guy into pieces. But Su Shui had already skipped to the door. She sighed, following him out.
