Chapter 46: Did the Calamity Witch Scam
update icon Updated at 2026/1/15 13:00:02

Half an hour ago.

Kebento Factory.

As the meteor fell, it activated all normal magical items inside. Wild magic surged, triggering explosions one after another. The massive factory crumbled into ruins.

Grayd Zakari, owner of Kebento Factory, froze at the news. He raced to the scene in his carriage.

Where was the factory? Where did his huge factory go!

"B-b-boss..." A seemingly decent man approached, trembling. "G-gulp... A giant meteor landed. It seems... it seems because of the Calamity Witch..."

"What! The Calamity Witch!" Grayd roared. "That bastard destroyed my factory! Damn it! Filthy beast! How long must those lowly workers toil to repay its value!"

"B-b-but good news..." the man stammered. "The meteor fell slowly. Some say the Holy Maiden slowed it. Few employees were hurt—only a dozen fainted from fear and are being treated."

"Who cares about them!" Grayd yelled. "My factory! What about my factory!"

"Calm down, Boss Grayd," the man urged. "No injuries mean no compensation. We can rebuild Kebento Factory. These workers can start immediately..."

"Right!" Grayd's eyes lit up. "With such damage, cutting wages is natural. Extend working hours too... Heh, after years here, no other company would hire them!"

"You! Fetch Kreuz!" Grayd shouted. "He's brewing a potion. Increase the dose for workers. Make them rebuild Kebento Factory in a month!"

"Understood, Boss Grayd... Ah, Kreuz is there!"

"Uh..." Kreuz, battered and ragged, limped forward while laughing wildly. "The Beast of Calamity... The legendary demon god is free! This world ends now!"

"What nonsense!" Grayd stormed over. "Work! Use your connections. Get Enpearl nobles to issue a warrant for the Calamity Witch. I want her to pay for everything!"

"The Calamity Witch?" Kreuz cackled. "Hahaha, yes! She's in this country... The Church will rejoice!"

"As for you? Useless." Kreuz pulled out a potion. "The Calamity Witch summoned the meteor to destroy this place. You dare block her? Then... die!"

"Crash!" The potion smashed against Grayd. It instantly eroded his flesh. With a pained scream, he collapsed, lifeless.

"Uh... Aaaah!" The other man fled in terror.

"Next, report to the Church about the Calamity Witch... Uh." Kreuz turned but froze.

The Beast of Calamity blocked his path.

"H-h-honored Demon God," Kreuz knelt. "Your command?"

"zhu... ren... de... di... ren..."

The Beast raised its tail. A beam sliced through Kreuz's head, then swept across, tearing his body apart.

It coiled its tail around the unconscious Remiel and vanished.

Half an hour later.

Black-robed figures arrived. One spoke, "This is the Calamity Witch's aura. She lingered here long."

"Wait, this potion?" Another picked it up, sniffed, and paled. "Its effect is horrifying. Spread it through the Empire of Enpearl, even higher empires..."

"It would spark massive panic and chaos!" another cried. "I see! The Calamity Witch came to spread this potion! To shake the World!"

All were stunned.

What a feat! Not even the Demon King or empires could achieve this!

Truly worthy of their Calamity Witch!

Act now!

What of commoners?

Need I say? The Lord doesn't care!

"Achoo!"

Xia Xin rubbed her nose, engrossed in the basic magic textbook. Her hand, stroking the Beast of Calamity's head, paused unconsciously.

Her magic aptitude felt unreal.

Reading a spell once let her master it instantly—perfect control, minimal mana. Unlike her first disastrous Fireball Spell.

Perhaps the alchemical potion enhancement helped... Dying once wasn't so bad. Misfortune turned to blessing.

Or maybe the book was too simple. For Xia Xin, a hardcore overachiever, it was effortless.

She was skilled in basics, but that was all. Only this book remained.

More could wait until others woke.

Hmm? New system alert.

Words appeared:

【Task II: "Source of Calamity" completed. Reward: Calamity Witch's Earring.】

What? Another task done?

She'd done nothing!

Another bug?

But why complain? Free rewards without effort meant double joy!

Heh, gloves first, now an earring. Though it seemed mass-produced, as a limited Sorceress item, it must be powerful.
