Chapter 46: Raw Materials and the Marion

I was taken aback. Most things made sense, but what kind of system gave XP for killing warhorses and unicorns?

Mount Slayer? Real Horse Hunter??

The more I thought about it, the funnier it got. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. My gloomy mood, weighed down by the dungeon’s deathly sights, lifted instantly.

Evelyn was baffled by my sudden laughter. “O Great Demon King Sibyl,” she asked, “what’s wrong? What’s so amusing?”

Horses are so cute—why harm them?

—Of course, I couldn’t say that aloud.

“Nothing much. Let’s head back.”

I could accept killing enemy human soldiers for XP. But harming ordinary people? Unless necessary, I had no interest in turning them into my experience points.

Even as an Overlord, this was justifiable. Yet I worried this lolita body’s instincts might get triggered, making it do weird things.

Subconsciously, I still believed killing civilians wasn’t good—certainly not something to praise.

For some reason, Evelyn was overly eager to help me level up. Ignoring my command, she purred in a seductive, lazy tone:

“Hehe~ Lord Sibyl, are you really not leveling up further? Carol’s experimental materials include many subjects besides fanatical soldiers.”

I twitched my lips. Since earlier, Evelyn had hinted the imprisoned creatures were Carol’s test subjects for mind magic. She seemed thrilled to turn them into my XP.

Does she have a grudge against Carol? These were hard-captured. Acting without telling her… if Carol found out…

What if…

I suddenly thought of a possibility and shuddered. My ahoge split into multiple strands from fright—basically, my hair stood on end.

What if using these “materials” was like saying Carol’s cooking was bad—a deadly taboo??

What if Evelyn already knew this and was deliberately dragging me down? I’d be doomed!

Cold sweat poured down my face. I shook my head frantically. “Forget it, Sister Evelyn. I’m happy with one level up. This place feels oppressive; my room is better.”

“Mmm, such a pity~ But since it’s the Great Demon King’s order, I’ll take you back.”

Evelyn sounded disappointed but turned around, carrying me toward the dungeon entrance.

Before she reached the door, a heavy creak echoed behind us. A familiar voice exclaimed in surprise:

“Evelyn, what are you doing here?”

No mistake—it was Carol, the Succubus High Priestess of the Demon Kin.

I could throw her question right back: What was she doing here?!

“Hehe~ Do I need to report my whereabouts to High Priestess Carol now?” Evelyn replied coldly.

Carol hadn’t noticed me yet. She frowned. “Tch, such a heavy blood scent… Lady Evelyn, if you wanted new prey, just tell me. These human soldiers are materials for mind control research. They’re easy to catch, but killing them all causes trouble. Wait—you didn’t drink their blood… Could it be…”

“Has the Great Demon King caused trouble again, and you’re taking it out on my lab?” Carol’s voice came, as if she’d just realized.

“Maa~ If you think so, then so be it.”

Evelyn didn’t look back, continuing forward.

“Wait.”

Carol called out. “Lady Evelyn, what are you carrying? A new ‘toy’ from the Mid Tier Demons? I’ve said—if you’re hungry, take the ones I’ve broken…”

Evelyn slowly turned, holding me. “The Great Demon King ordered me to take her back. Carol, do you have objections?”

As the silver-haired vampire turned, my gaze met the black-haired beauty’s. Both of us widened our eyes simultaneously.

Carol’s shock was obvious. Mine wasn’t.

Carol wore only a tube top and shorts, exposing most of her skin. Her black hair spilled over her shoulders, emerald eyes gleaming brightly. A vivid purple Soul Mark adorned her abdomen.

But that wasn’t the most shocking part—Carol wasn’t alone.

Behind her trailed a human White Haired Lolita in a tattered gray dress. A metal collar circled her neck. She followed with a blank expression, silent the whole time.

The White Haired Lolita had amber eyes. She seemed taller than me. Despite her shabby clothes, her pretty face shone through. She was clean, with little dust.

In fancier attire, she’d easily be mistaken for a noble’s daughter.

But her eyes held no life, no emotion—like a soulless doll. I’d never seen such a vacant stare; it wasn’t human.

After a brief shock, I snapped back. Countless questions flooded my mind.

Carol’s expression shifted repeatedly, her face grim. But she forced calmness, speaking gently:

“In that case, Lady Evelyn, I won’t disturb you. Great Demon King, this isn’t a place for you. Please return with Evelyn quickly.”

I nodded. “Mm, Sister Evelyn, let’s go.”

“Yes.”

Evelyn gave Carol a meaningful look, turned again, and carried me out of the dungeon.

We stayed silent all the way. This time, I truly couldn’t see through my subordinates.

On whether they were good or bad, I doubted my judgment for the first time.

There might be more things this Overlord doesn’t know than I imagined…
