Chapter 22: A Coincidence Too Eerie
update icon Updated at 2025/12/22 7:00:02

After buying food at the school convenience store, Zhou Ruiyang thought Mujin in the dorm must be starving. He decided to take a shortcut through the back door.

Though it was just the front and back doors of the same building, their dorm was huge. This saved him nearly five minutes.

But he didn’t expect someone else inside when he opened the door.

After all, this back door was rarely used except by their dorm residents.

And it was a strange "little fatty."

Yes, Zhou Ruiyang hadn’t looked directly yet. But the soft chest suggested only a fat person could be that squishy.

Besides, this guy smelled sweet—like perfume. Weird.

When pinched, Mujin’s body jolted as if electrocuted. Zhou Ruiyang’s words infuriated her further. Flushed with shame and anger, she shouted, "You’re the fat one! Get off me!"

She wondered why Zhou Ruiyang was everywhere, always catching her.

Zhou Ruiyang froze. That voice... didn’t sound like a man’s? Puzzled, he looked down. His eyes widened in shock.

The one on the ground wasn’t a "little fatty" at all—it was a brown-haired girl!

She lay with legs tightly pressed together, hands hanging limply. Like an anime soft girl pushed over.

Her face was fair with a rosy blush. Long curved lashes framed her eyes. Arched brows furrowed in anger—yet she looked unexpectedly cute.

His gaze drifted downward. Gravity made the oversized hoodie cling to her body, slightly revealing her ample chest.

And his large hand was pressing right on it.

Zhou Ruiyang froze for seconds, then quickly stood. "Sorry, I didn’t see clearly. My bad."

He reached to help her up. But before he could speak, she cut in.

"Move aside, I’m in a hurry!" she said anxiously, head down.

Mujin just wanted to leave fast. To avoid Zhou Ruiyang noticing anything.

She knew now—he looked dumb but was smarter than anyone.

"Oh." Zhou Ruiyang instinctively stepped aside. He watched her retreating figure, lost in thought.

This was clearly a girl. Why in the boys’ dorm? Wearing boys’ clothes?

And the clothes looked familiar.

Still, she had a good temper. He’d groped her chest—expected a slap or scolding. But she said nothing.

Zhou Ruiyang looked at his hand. Fingers slightly curled, trying to recreate that soft mound’s size.

Then he noticed the bird food. He snapped back.

"Crap, Mujin’s still waiting!"

Zhou Ruiyang hurried back to the dorm. As he opened the door, a dark figure lunged.

"You’re finally back... Holy shit!"

Meng Xianyong meant to tackle him in a hug. But Zhou sidestepped. Meng missed and fell hard.

"Why the hell did you dodge!" Meng got up. Luckily, he was fit—a fall didn’t bother him.

"Oh, it’s you, Brother Yong. Scared me."

Ignoring him, Zhou took off his shoes. He lightly climbed onto his bed, rummaging the desk.

He thought Mujin was hiding there. But found no sign.

Strange. Where was Mujin?

"What are you looking for? She’s gone," Hao Ren said from his bed, pouting jealously.

Zhou Ruiyang startled. "You know?"

"Of course we know. Not bad, Zhou Ruiyang—keeping it from us brothers?"

"Do you... believe it?"

"We saw it. How could we not?"

"Alright, where did she go?"

Meng walked over. "Who knows? She ran when she saw us. You’re something else—hooking up with a girl yesterday was fine. But not leaving her clothes? Didn’t you worry we’d see something we shouldn’t?"

"Girl? What girl?" Zhou Ruiyang was confused.

"Great, playing dumb now? You heartless bastard after getting what you want?" Meng jumped up and punched him.

"Stop. Who are you talking about? I don’t get it."

"That brown-haired girl. We came back—she was naked on your bed. Said you tore her clothes."

"Brown-haired girl?" Zhou Ruiyang pictured her instantly. He gestured urgently: "Long hair, this tall, breasts this big?"

Watching his hands, Hao Ren said jealously, "Alright, we know you’re experienced. Don’t rub it in."

Though Hao didn’t answer directly, Zhou Ruiyang got it.

That girl had been in their dorm—and taken his clothes!

No wonder they looked familiar. They were his own.

But who was she? How did she sneak in? Why borrow his clothes? And why frame him for ruining her innocence?

So many questions flooded his mind. He frowned.

Besides, where was Mujin?

She had trouble walking—shouldn’t have gone far.

Staring at the empty bed, Zhou Ruiyang had a sudden realization.

Mujin vanished. A naked girl appeared on his bed. Only their dorm had the back door key.

This coincidence was too eerie.

Could that girl... be Mujin?

Possible. If Mujin could turn into a Sparrow, why not a girl?

After escaping, Mujin didn’t stop. She jogged far away.

Later, she slowed to a brisk walk.

Running made her chest bounce too much. The oversized hoodie hid the jiggle—but chafed her nipples painfully.

Women were such a hassle. Even running was troublesome.

In her vision’s top-left corner, a timer showed 25 minutes left for transformation. She had to wander outside.

But Mujin already had plans.

She entered the cafeteria, heading to the duck leg rice window. The aroma made her mouth water.

For three years, this was her favorite—inexpensive and delicious. She visited weekly.

After half a month without it, she craved it badly.

Though broke, she always found ways to eat.

She opened the points store. Went to plush toys. Spent one point for a small bear plushie.

She stopped a passerby buying food. Deliberately removed her hat. Asked to trade the plushie for duck leg rice.

The passerby sized her up. Her delicate frown and pitiful look made him feel guilty refusing.

The plushie looked expensive too. He readily agreed.

Three minutes later, Mujin sat devouring the rice. Her face glowed with bliss.

The girl’s body didn’t curb her appetite. She finished the whole plate—grain by grain. Even wanted seconds.

Full, she leaned back lazily. Patted her slightly rounded belly. Looked content.

Ah, being human was indeed better.

But the top-right countdown warned: under ten minutes until she turned back into a Sparrow. She needed a secluded spot. To avoid scaring people.

After checking the timer, Mujin noticed text below it.

Her vision was like a game character’s—avatar top-right, status descriptions beside.

In the task bar, her escape mission showed incomplete.

"System, glitching? I ran out—even ate. Why incomplete?"

[System: Please review the task description carefully.]

Mujin opened the details.

[Task: Successfully leave the boys’ dorm without exposing your true identity or body. Success grants 1% progress.]

"That’s right—I did all that."

She reread it. A bad feeling crept in.

Wait—her body wasn’t exposed. Could someone know her true identity?

She guessed Zhou Ruiyang instantly.

Only he could link a girl to her so fast.

He’d been returning to feed her. Seeing her gone, he’d question it.

The back door was rarely used except by their dorm. Zhou Ruiyang noticed details. He might already suspect that girl was her.

No way. Even for that 1% progress bar, she had to trick him back into doubting.
