Chapter 33.9: The Anxiety of the Genuine
update icon Updated at 2026/1/12 17:30:02

March 25th.

Saturday.

I was half-slumped on the sofa, watching some boring TV show, stifling a yawn.

Plenty of friends had invited me out, but I’d turned them all down.

Why?

Because my brother was home!

He never went out on weekends—which meant I got to spend the whole day with him~

I’d already prepped games and movies. All day curled up in his arms, recharging my brother batteries~

Unlike Xinran, who could sneak into his bed every night, I only had Saturdays and Sundays to close the gap.

Lucky Xinran… I’d envied her countless times already.

Especially lately—she’d actually gotten his permission for her midnight raids! Sure, he’d drawn the line at "crossing boundaries," but just being allowed to hold him while sleeping? Pure bliss.

When she told me he’d caught her a few days ago, I was stunned!

But in the end… he accepted her. Of course he did. My brother’s too gentle to refuse.

I felt a twinge of jealousy, sure. But Xinran had given up so much. She’d loved him longer than I had. Yet she’d surrendered any claim to being his "official" sister—just to stay by his side. Denying her that might break her.

She’d cast herself into the shadows… just to hand his "title" to me.

*Sigh.* Enough of that.

How to share my brother had been decided long ago. The plan was unfolding perfectly:

Middle school: Build rapport → High school: Stack affection points → Senior year: Comfort him during exam stress → Same university: Sweet cohabitation → Two kids (a boy and girl, siblings too!) → Graduate while pregnant → Grow old together, holding his hand as I fade away…

The perfect life blueprint.

Phase one was complete. Now in phase two, he’d grown completely used to holding me.

And with Xinran’s secret out? Perfect timing. My brother’s too proper to touch her—blood relatives, after all. But he’s still a man. Watching Xinran push boundaries must be torturing him.

Yet I knew he’d endure it alone.

Dad and he both live by rigid morals. They’d never allow "wrong" things.

Which meant… just a little nudge from me…

*Hehehehe…*

Ah! My cheeks were burning.

Got carried away. My face must look awful.

Brother’d be up soon. Time to cool off.

I grabbed the strawberry ice cream he’d bought from the fridge, tore open the wrapper, and dug in.

So refreshing.

Pity he’d be helping that old hag tomorrow—leaving at dawn.

Ugh, that decrepit crone! Why drag *him* into it? Are all the new hires useless? Sure, they’re no match for Brother, but if they can’t handle this, they might as well jump into the crematorium ovens they work at! …Wait, broke idiots probably can’t even afford urns (snort).

*Thump-thump-thump-thump…*

Footsteps. Fast. Light. Barefoot. Definitely Brother—rushing somewhere?

I whipped my head around, then instantly looked away when I saw him.

Huh? He was wearing the outfit *I* picked out.

So handsome~

This crisp style suited him perfectly!

But dressing up like this… for what? He’d never bother for a quick supermarket run. Just throw on sweats and go.

He hadn’t even noticed me on the sofa. Swallowing my pout, I feigned curiosity.

"Going out, Brother?"

"Mm. Might not be back for lunch. If I’m not here, just make curry for yourselves."

So he *was* leaving. Time to tag along.

"Can I come? I need to buy something anyway."

"Uh…"

I’d expected an instant yes from gentle Brother. Instead, he looked troubled.

"Sorry, Keling. It’s… meeting a friend. Not really a place for you."

He gave a quick apologetic palm-up gesture, slipped on his shoes, and vanished out the door.

Watching his back disappear, I tilted my head.

A… *friend*? Since when did Brother have friends?

I’d been distracted by class stuff lately. Hadn’t even joined him for lunch. Did he make friends while I wasn’t looking?

Annoying. If only we were in the same class. We’re triplets with the same birthday, but I started school a year late—just a freshman now.

If we were in the same grade, I’d *force* us into the same class!

Better investigate this "friend." If they’re scum, I’ll eliminate them.

Minutes later, Xinran came downstairs.

"Where’s Brother?"

"Just left. Said he’s meeting a friend."

She blinked, surprised. "Oh? And you didn’t follow him?"

"Huh? Why would I?"

"So you really don’t know…" Her tone sent a chill down my spine.

"Know… what?"

"He’s meeting his girlfriend."

"Hah?"

Brother’s meeting someone named *Nvyou*?

Weird name.

"Do you know Ji Lianbing?"

Ji Lianbing? The Ji Group heiress?

Rumored to keep a reverse harem of pretty boys. A total man-eater.

I’d researched her since she sat behind Brother. But as far as I knew, they’d never spoken.

Of course not. Brother and that kind of spoiled brat (snort) wouldn’t mix. She’d never lower herself to talk to "commoners" like us (scoff).

Boys at school drooled over her. What’s so great about that flashy slut? A pretty face and rich daddy don’t make character!

Women wear masks. I bet her "elegant grace" is pure act!

Probably a necrophiliac serial killer at heart (laugh).

"Pfft. Of course I know her. How could I not? Those kelp-brained boys jerk off to her nonstop. Disgusting!" I spat.

Brother would *never* fall for that fake, tea-sipping bitch. Even if Ji Lianbing flirted with him, he’d shut her down cold.

"Rumor says someone actually got her to say yes recently. Everyone thought she’d only go for princes or tycoon heirs… but her boyfriend’s just some nobody."

Another cliché rich-girl-meets-peasant runaway story.

So trashy.

Xinran’s expression shifted—strange, hesitant.

"What’s wrong, Xinran?"

"That someone… is Brother."

"Oh, Brother? Wait—*whose* brother?"

We usually read each other’s minds. Not this time.

"Ji Lianbing’s boyfriend. Her *boyfriend* is our brother."

"…Huh?"

It still didn’t compute. Or maybe I refused to let it.

"Our brother. An Juncheng. *Jun-gege*."

Her words finally carved their meaning into my brain. When it hit me—

"Mew?! Mew mew mew?!"

"Seems they started dating Friday. Though he confessed Thursday."

"Mew mew mew mew mew?!"

Xinran’s face went icy.

"He’s probably meeting Ji Lianbing now. Didn’t he dress up specially before leaving?"

Th-that’s right!

"Ji Lianbing…"

Is… Brother’s…

"**GIRLFRIEND?!**"

I’d slacked off.

Slacked off *too much*!

Brother is everything to me—my whole world—and I’d taken my eyes off him.

My fault. I shouldn’t have wasted time on class nonsense. Those idiots can rot for all I care! I should’ve watched him *every second*!

But regret was useless now.

Jun-gege… Brother… was already stolen.

That fox spirit slipped right in while I wasn’t looking—**AAAAAAAH!**

"*That* ***beep*** *woman—!*"

"*How DARE she—! Just a— a—*"

"*Your whole damn—!*"

"*I’ll—! I’ll—!*"

"Calm down, Keling. Your mouth’s spewing sewage."

*Grrrrgh!*

This can’t be real! A lie! All lies!

Why would Brother date *that* woman?

*My* Brother! He’s *mine*! He’s meant to be Keling’s other half!

*I’m* supposed to be his wife!

"I’m following him!"

"Keling, wait—"

"Wait for *what*?!"

I vaulted off the sofa, sprinted upstairs, threw on dark tracker gear, and leaped from my window to the first floor.

Phone GPS would pinpoint Brother. *Now. Immediately. To his side!*

Fifteen minutes later, I found them at a café on Peace Street.

Laughing together. Brother’s face—*so many expressions*. Frowning. Flustered. Wry smiles. Tense. Shocked…

He’d never shown *me* those faces.

With me, he only ever smiled.

Then it hit me:

*That’s* what being with someone you *love* looks like.

A couple's relationship isn't just sweet moments. Sometimes they clash, have disagreements, or even fight... But they always make up afterward. Their love deepens, their bond grows stronger.

With my brother, though, there were never any complaints. Not once did he show an unhappy face. That should have been strange, but I was so lost in the sweetness, I foolishly didn't notice...

A sudden thought hit me: with that woman, he's finally 'real'.

After years of building our bond, is it worth less than that woman he's only dated for three days?

Unfair... Unfair!

She ruined my plans, barged in and stole my brother!

Not only did she use her assets to seduce him, but she also held hands, went shopping and watched movies with him... and finally... she even kissed him!

And I haven't even kissed him on the lips yet!

That seductive bitch, that vixen, that slut!

Unforgivable! Absolutely unforgivable!

I'll deal with that woman myself!

I'm the one who loves him most! I'm the one who will marry him!

Brother is mine! I won't give him to anyone! He's! Mine!
