Chapter 1: Dawn

Sunlight stabbed through a gap in the curtains, right into my eyes.

My head throbbed—a splitting ache that drowned out even the blinding light.

I forced myself upright. Dizziness crashed over me. My vision swam with swirling dots of color.

I sat frozen on the bed until the room slowly sharpened into focus. The dizziness lingered.

Then—I finally noticed the girl lying beside me.

I rubbed my eyes hard and looked again. She was still there.

Definitely not a hallucination. But why was this incredibly cute girl in my bed? I had zero memory of her.

She suddenly sat up, stretching lazily. Two small bumps pressed against her sky-blue pajama top—no bra beneath.

What the hell? An unbelievably cute girl, braless, in my room? What happened last night?

She seemed to catch my stare but didn’t flinch. Rubbing her eyes with one hand, her long hair cascaded naturally over her shoulders. Sleep-mussed strands framed her face, only amplifying her charm.

Her eyes stayed half-closed as she swayed slightly. Clearly hadn’t slept well.

In a drowsy, singsong voice, she murmured: "Good morning… ~Big Brother~."

*Big Brother?* My mind went blank. I had no little sisters. Mom said all of Uncle Lin’s relatives had cut ties years ago. The only "brother" I had was Lin Yuxuan—my actual younger brother.

*Yuxuan…*

Memories from yesterday flooded back.

"Hey Li Ze! Finally free for break, right? Seven whole days of National Day holiday!" Ye Qian bounded over the moment school ended, buzzing with plans. "I’m taking my sister out. You should totally come! Also—"

"Yeah, yeah, fun with your sister. Got it. Anything else?" I waved him off.

Class President Sunny Su approached. "Ye Qian, are you free tonight? The class is renting a KTV room. As Vice President, you really should join."

"Right! The KTV thing!" Ye Qian snapped his fingers. "I was gonna invite Zhao Yi, but he bailed—said he’s got some cosplay meetup. Seriously annoying!"

I sighed. "Sorry… but I can’t make it either."

Sunny Su slammed her palm on the desk. "You can’t skip this! It’s a class gathering! Don’t you feel any responsibility as President?"

I slumped over my desk. "Blame my wonderful mom."

Ye Qian’s face fell. "What’s wrong? Trouble at home?"

"Not exactly…" I exhaled slowly. "Three days ago, she just dropped this: ‘Your dad and I are away on business for six weeks. Take care of the house. Oh—and Yuxuan’s birthday is in three days. Don’t forget~’" Another sigh escaped me. The weight of it all pressed down again.
