This was a situation demanding immediate vigilance.
Every day brought two urgent crises. As the leader of this "gang of criminals," he should be used to it. But when things shifted, he knew he had to force himself to handle this grim mess.
"Everyone here?"
The man in the white lab coat frowned slightly, asking weakly.
"Should be, boss. Six from Wolf Squad. Minus you and Atak... oh, Xila..."
"Never mind. Leave him be."
Sweat slowly seeped from his forehead into his mouth. The lab-coated man found a stool and sat.
Before he settled, a man in a blue-collared shirt spoke up.
"So, boss, can you finally tell us what happened? Traveling all this way via that 'teleporter' is exhausting."
"Easy, Sasum."
Hands on his forehead, the lab-coated man advised Sasum.
"I’m not sure of the details. I called you to discuss together—"
"Discuss my ass!"
A man in a black leather jacket and pompadour cut him off.
"Boss, be a man. Skip the talk. If it’s for discussion, why not phone it in? Why gather us all?"
He was so arrogant, he nearly scolded his own boss. His tone was rude and overbearing, like he ruled here.
"Fani, don’t treat this place like your home."
As Fani made faces and spouted arrogance, the third man stepped in to stop him.
He was the tallest there. A wide gray trench coat, black-and-white striped scarf, and polished leather shoes. He was easily the best-dressed.
"Oh? Abraham, days apart, and your skills haven’t grown—but your mouth sure has."
Seeing this man lecture him like a mother, Fani bristled.
"Just truth. Especially for someone like you."
"What? You wanna fight?"
"Hah, I don’t think I’m beneath you."
Their gazes locked, sparks flying in the air.
"Calm down, both of you. Don’t start infighting before I explain."
Watching his subordinates show no tension now, the lab-coated man shook his head in disappointment. He pleaded helplessly. Sweat still trickled down his cheek, dripping onto the scorching floor, evaporating into steam.
"As I said, Li Scar was taken out. I found that guy’s address. Planned to eliminate him—but it wasn’t him at home. It was his sister. So I brought her here tied up."
"Hah, got it. The one who took out Li Scar? Impressive. Li Scar wasn’t weak, but a human who beat him... interesting."
Sasum stroked his chin, smiling gloatingly.
"But I miscalculated. We’ve messed with the worst possible person."
Before anyone reacted, the lab-coated man uttered these words.
