Chapter 19
The so-called Class Change Ability was the ultimate power exclusive to the Hero. True to its name, it allowed the Hero to switch to another class and gain all its abilities. If asked what made the Hero most troublesome, every member of the Demon Clan would cite their infinite resurrection. But if asked what made the Hero truly terrifying, the answer was undoubtedly the Class Change Ability.
"Alex, I’ll ask once more—are you certain about using the Class Change Ability here?" Clothilde’s voice tightened. "Though Heroes resurrect endlessly, you rewrote history by defeating this era’s rightful Hero to claim the title. If you die now, I can’t guarantee your soul will reincarnate in this age… or snap back to the world two centuries later. In short—you cannot afford to die."
"..."
Lisbeth understood Clothilde’s concern. Even she couldn’t predict where her soul would awaken after death. Seeing Lisbeth fall silent, Clothilde’s tone softened. "Alex, return today. I trust you’ll find a way to free me later. Just don’t you dare—"
"Class Change Ability: Activate!"
"Eh?!"
Before Clothilde could finish, Lisbeth’s shout ripped through the air. A violet six-pointed Magic Array flared beneath her feet. In the blink of an eye, it expanded, swallowing the entire Treasure Vault.
"Alex! Did you even hear me? If you die here, everything ends!" Clothilde’s voice cracked.
"I won’t die. No matter what happens—I will not die."
Gone was Lisbeth’s usual playful tone. Her resolute voice silenced Clothilde instantly.
A faint smile touched Lisbeth’s lips, but her eyes burned with unwavering determination. "I heard you, Clothilde. But the Class Change Ability is essential for my path ahead. If I fear failure now, the road will only grow harder."
"And don’t forget—I’ve never died. Not in this era, not two centuries later. I promised Christia I’d never treat my life carelessly just because I can resurrect. For that vow… I will not die."
"...Fine." Clothilde sighed. "I won’t stop you. But remember your words. If you die, I’ll stab you hundreds of times over—just to make it count."
"Oh my, how terrifying. Then I absolutely must survive."
Lisbeth recognized this as Clothilde’s way of encouragement. With her resolve solidified, she drew a deep breath.
"Class selection: Tier 1—Thief!!"
