After waiting a while, the two bowls of BBQ pork udon we ordered arrived first. I took a small bowl, filled it with some noodles and char siu for Lu, and set it before her.
"Ugh... so slippery! Even harder to grab than the fried egg earlier!"
Lu stared at the udon in her bowl. She hesitated for a moment, then tried lifting a strand with her chopsticks. But after several attempts, she couldn’t get a single piece. A strange expression crossed her face.
"Alright, if you can’t manage it, just use a wooden spoon."
Watching Lu fumble slightly with the chopsticks, I smiled faintly and placed a wooden spoon in her hand.
Lu glanced oddly at the spoon, then at her bowl. She smacked her lips, then used her chopsticks to scoop noodles into the spoon.
Soon, with the spoon, Lu successfully brought udon and a slice of char siu to her mouth.
After chewing for a moment, her face lit up in surprise.
"So soft! So smooth! And the flavor with the broth and meat is amazing!"
Lu blinked, then wore a blissful expression.
"I never knew flour could taste this good!"
"There are plenty more delicious things in this world."
I smiled and slid the large bowl of noodles toward her.
"Well, since you like it, finishing this big bowl shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
"No problem! No problem at all!"
Lu called out happily. She immediately dug in with her big wooden spoon, looking thoroughly content.
The grilled skewers that followed thrilled her. Lu grabbed them with her hands and stuffed them into her mouth. She looked like an ordinary kid devouring food—nothing like the Daughter of the Demon Emperor she truly was.
I didn’t mind. Seeing her so happy and satisfied made me glad. Lu hadn’t tasted such delicious food in ages. I wasn’t stingy; whenever she finished a plate, I unhesitatingly ordered more.
Half an hour later, our table was piled with empty plates. It didn’t look like a meal for just two people.
But it didn’t matter. A little suggestion kept the waiter from suspecting anything. Money wasn’t a worry either.
My adoptive parents were well-off. I’d always been obedient, so they gave me a generous allowance for school—almost like a reward. I hadn’t wasted it, saving steadily over time.
It wasn’t a fortune, but enough to let Lu eat her fill and buy clothes without stress. Besides, I still cared about money, but not as much anymore. After all, it’s just an external thing—easily earned whenever needed.
