22 A Day of Unbridled Joy: The First Day
update icon Updated at 2025/12/29 2:00:02

When Yan Lingxuan reached the screening room, police and medics arrived almost simultaneously.

"First, identify the injured. Prioritize critical cases for immediate treatment."

"Others, check for remaining hazards. Count heads. Secure the perpetrator..."

"Too many people here. Evacuate students immediately."

Just as imagined, the screening room was packed. The scene was grim—some sobbed, some wept with relief, others stared blankly.

"One student dead. Twenty-one critical. Forty-four minor injuries..."

Alice transmitted real-time data to everyone’s WDs, streamlining the chaos.

"Alert nearby hospitals to prepare beds and staff..."

A balding man barked orders into his WD. Others scrambled—evacuating students, restraining suspects, treating wounds.

Yan Lingxuan spotted Bai Lingyue and Katherine instantly. Their silver-white hair stood out.

They stood where the fragmentation grenade had detonated. The wounded around them were riddled with shrapnel, a horrific sight.

Yan Lingxuan approached Bai Lingyue silently. Her face was etched with sorrow. Following her gaze, he saw Su Fangwen lying in a pool of blood. She looked like discarded trash—lifeless. Her fair face was only slightly pale, as if merely asleep.

Nearby lay a mangled heap of flesh. Only the school uniform identified it as the girl who’d held the grenade.

"Wahh..."

Sun Xiaocui, their classmate, knelt beside Su Fangwen, weeping uncontrollably.

"Move aside."

Yan Lingxuan’s voice cut through her sobs. She didn’t react.

"*Move!*"

Startled, Sun Xiaocui turned. Seeing Yan Lingxuan, shock and hope flashed in her eyes. Still sobbing, she refused to budge. Yan Lingxuan shoved her aside without hesitation.

As Sun Xiaocui stumbled back, furious, she saw Yan Lingxuan kneel beside Su Fangwen. He pressed his ear to her chest, then pried open her eyelids. His expression was solemn, utterly calm.

Bai Lingyue rushed forward, urgent: "Ordinary bodies can’t withstand Magic Power! We must wait for medics—"

"I know the Demonic Transformation risk," Yan Lingxuan interrupted. "But her heart’s stopped. Brain death hasn’t set in. Medics are overwhelmed. I *have* to try. Don’t stop me."

Magic Power flared around him.

The sudden glow drew every eye.

This was Yan Lingxuan’s first attempt at magical healing. He’d experienced it firsthand before—but performing it was different. *Desperate times.*

Watching her brother’s strained face, Bai Lingyue clenched her fists. Then, resolute, she knelt beside him.

"Let me help. If she undergoes Demonic Transformation... I’ll handle the aftermath."

*Twins truly think alike.* Yan Lingxuan almost smiled.

"Together, then."

Soft white light enveloped them. Warmth radiated from it, soothing everyone nearby.

"Hold it!"

The Magical Response Unit arrived late. Captain Cao Guoqing led fifteen Mages into the room. Seeing unknown Mages healing civilians—a grave danger—they moved to intervene.

"Not happening."

Katherine blocked Cao Guoqing’s path.

"A Mage?"

"Yes. Valhalla Academy student, Atlantis branch. And if you start a fight here? I’ll gladly join in."

Cao Guoqing scanned the packed crowd. Combat was impossible. He glared at Katherine, seething.

...

*Why did it end like this?*

Today had been a whirlwind—terrifying, surreal. Su Fangwen would never forget it. Though it seemed her life was ending now.

After Bai Lingyue’s group subdued the Mages and militants, the vice principal organized the evacuation. Despite the casualties, Su Fangwen felt lucky—only shaken, with minor cuts.

Walking ahead, she witnessed everything when the evacuation line halted.

A first-year girl blocked the exit, muttering curses under her breath. The physics teacher approached her. No effect. As he reached to guide her away—

The girl snapped.

Su Fangwen’s instincts screamed. True to her dread, the girl yanked a spherical object from her pocket. A bomb.

Panic erupted. The crowd surged backward.

Amid the chaos, Su Fangwen spotted Sun Xiaocui frozen in place.

The bomber raised the grenade. Sun Xiaocui still hadn’t moved.

No time to think. Su Fangwen lunged from the crowd and tackled Sun Xiaocui to the ground.

Just as expected—the deafening *BOOM* followed.

Su Fangwen felt her body thrown forward. Wind roared. Glass shattered. Then silence.

Catching her breath, she realized the pain—searing agony in her back, tears streaming down. Her legs wouldn’t move. Her waist felt numb. *Can’t stand up?*

After that, nothing mattered. She lay still. Warmth drained with her blood. Sensation faded. Even the pain vanished.

*So unlucky. Why me?* She saw Sun Xiaocui—barely scratched—clutching her, sobbing. Su Fangwen smiled faintly. *Joy for saving her? Or just to comfort her?*

Too tired to ponder, she drifted. *Sleep now. Wake up in another world?* She hoped the afterlife wouldn’t feel so lonely. Strangely, Yan Lingxuan’s face appeared—not his usual annoying smirk, but a look of deep sorrow...

...

She’d slept deeply, peacefully. A full day, it felt like.

Regaining consciousness, Su Fangwen first noticed... something touching her chest. *Fondling.* It tickled. Then—a firm *squeeze*.

Her eyes flew open.

A hand was groping her breast. Its owner? Her classmate, Yan Lingxuan.

He looked thrilled, breathing heavily, fingers working busily—*squeeze, squeeze, squeeze*—

Instinct overrode thought. Su Fangwen’s palm cracked across his face at supersonic speed.

***SLAP!***

"P-PERV!"

"What perv? I was checking your heartbeat! You slap me out of nowhere? Ungrateful much?" Yan Lingxuan clutched his reddening cheek, feigning wounded tears.

"Checking my *heartbeat*? With *that* grip? You squeezed my chest!"

"Total misunderstanding! Your chest is still developing—I thought a little massage might help it grow! For your holistic well-being! And small-chested girls aren’t *that* petty, right? A touch won’t—"

His other cheek swelled from her second slap. Katherine’s disapproval and Bai Lingyue’s icy stare hit him. *Thrilling.* (Confirmed pervert.)

"You’re okay."

Bai Lingyue hugged Su Fangwen tightly. Both had tears in their eyes.

"Yuri is so aesthetic."

Ignoring his swollen face, Yan Lingxuan snapped photos on his WD.

"Sorry to interrupt your happy reunion," Katherine murmured, "but... how do we handle *this*?"

She nodded toward the fifteen Mages surrounding them, led by Cao Guoqing, weapons ready.

How to resolve this?

Yan Lingxuan had no idea. He’d hit his limit.

Flying back to Cloud Gate City at 170 km/h. Battling Waste Law Society officer Bernie Butterworth. Then healing Su Fangwen. His mind finally snapped.

Without warning, he collapsed mid-standoff.

*Right... my notebook’s still at the airport. My precious data. Lingyue’s photos...*

His last thought before darkness.

...

...

Yan Lingxuan woke in an Atlantis hospital. He’d slept a full day—surprising, even to him.

On his third day in Atlantis, dressed in Valhalla Academy uniform, he officially enrolled.

At 7 a.m., walking to school with his sister, Yan Lingxuan vibrated with excitement. His eyes darted over Bai Lingyue—memorizing every detail.

Short-sleeved white shirt. Purple-patterned tie. Classic black-and-red pleated skirt. Black thigh-highs hugging her legs.

*Sisters are the world’s most precious creatures!* Tears welled in his eyes.

So focused on his sister, he missed how heads turned—not for him, but for Bai Lingyue.

"Morning, Yan."

A familiar voice. Yan Lingxuan turned. Beside him walked Su Fangwen, in Valhalla uniform.

"What are *you* doing here?"

Seeing his shock, Su Fangwen smirked. "Enrolling, obviously."

"*Enrolling?!*" Yan Lingxuan gaped.

"Only *you* get to be a Mage? I can’t?"

"*Huh?* You’re a Mage now?"

Su Fangwen gleefully recounted her miraculous awakening of Magic Power after the rescue—the shock, the joy, every detail.

"Oh, and Qi Jun became one too."

Following her gaze, Yan Lingxuan spotted Qi Jun trailing behind. Same grumpy face, like the world owed him money. He met Yan Lingxuan’s eyes, sneered, and looked away.

"Feels like Mages are everywhere now. How will I show off anymore?"

"Haha! Exactly. No more arrogance from you."

Seeing Su Fangwen’s flushed, happy face, Yan Lingxuan teased: "Right. Same academy. More chances for you to confess your love to me."

He braced to dodge her punch.

But it never came.

Su Fangwen stopped walking. Yan Lingxuan and Bai Lingyue halted too.

"If I *did* confess... would you date me?"

"Sorry. I’m a siscon!"

Facing Yan Lingxuan's instant reply and his resolute refusal, Su Fangwen wasn't upset at all. Instead, she looked completely relaxed. Clinging to Bai Lingyue's arm like a spoiled child, she said disdainfully:

"I knew you were totally obsessed with your sister. Who'd want to date a creepy shut-in like you? Don't flatter yourself."

Then she warned Bai Lingyue:

"Little sister, you should watch out for your brother. He's a total pervert."

"Don't worry," Bai Lingyue replied. "I'll make sure to discipline this idiot brother of yours."

*Calling her 'little sister'? When did you get so close to my sister? And Lingyue, what's with that look in your eyes? What does 'discipline' even mean? Oh no—I think I'm actually looking forward to it~*

...

Valhalla Academy, High School Principal's Office.

The office spanned over 300 square meters, unusually spacious with no extra items cluttering it.

"Successfully rescued 21 critically injured people, and two reacted with Magic Power to become Mages? Is it just a coincidence?"

Behind the desk, Principal Yuan Ye Misaki set down the finished report. She walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, watching students on the academy road. Among them were Yan Lingxuan, Bai Lingyue, Su Fangwen, and Qi Jun.

Brilliant morning light streamed through the glass, illuminating Principal Yuan Ye Misaki's petite figure.

"Yue-chan's twin brother? He seems like a very interesting person. I'm really looking forward to it, hee hee."
