2. Then What’s the Price…?

Night Frost used Spirit Threads to weave memories of the future for Lingchen Yao to watch. Lingchen Yao skimmed through them, so shocked that her mouth fell open.

“So you’re saying that tonight, someone called Eye Orb will come looking for me. Then I’ll become a Magic Maiden, find the murderer who slaughtered my parents through countless battles… and finally, after losing to a god, someone will send me back into the past?”

Night Frost nodded. As expected of herself, she summarized everything quickly and accurately.

“So that god wasn’t affected by the rewind of time. Then the Magic Maiden called Illusory Glass simply scrapped the save file and had you play through New Game Plus? We’re going to fight a god… Seriously?”

The Lingchen Yao of the present still valued herself a little more. She definitely didn’t want to go against a god. After all, that enemy didn’t look remotely beatable.

“I guess you think I wouldn’t want to help you. But that’s my future. And you helped me kill that person called Azure, avenging our parents… didn’t you? Since that’s the case, there’s actually nothing left for me to miss.”

“So, in the end, the person I understood least was my past self.”

Lingchen Yao opened her arms. Night Frost smiled and slipped into Lingchen Yao’s body.

Past, present, and future became one.

Her figure began transforming into Night Frost.

Her hair flowed like silk and waterfalls, crystalline and translucent like ice, shimmering with a cold light. Her skin was as fair as jade, as though covered by a thin layer of frost, radiating a faint silver glow. As the night shifted around her, her figure gradually grew hazy and mysterious, as if merging with the darkness.

Lingchen Yao’s breathing became as soft and unhurried as the night wind, filled with endless harmony and serenity. Her consciousness was both fearful and expectant. As Night Frost seeped into her, it slowly blurred, as if being swept into an endless whirlpool.

When spirit intertwined with spirit, Lingchen Yao’s body suddenly burst into dazzling light.

The radiance was like the rising sun breaking through the dawn. It instantly scattered the darkness around them.

Under its glow, Night Frost’s figure gradually became clear. She became Night Frost once more.

“You have to win!”

“Mm. I will.”

“After seeing your memories, being a girl doesn’t seem so bad… if it means I can save the world.”

The light faded.

Night Frost’s graceful, upright figure stood in the darkness, like a silent statue. Moonlight illuminated her face, making it seem exceptionally cold and distant.

Her eyes were as deep as the sea. They seemed capable of swallowing every light around them, yet they glimmered with a unique crimson radiance in the darkness, like stars scattered across an endless night.

Night Frost’s clothes fluttered gently in the breeze, accentuating her elegant figure. Her long hair swayed softly in the night wind, like flowing snow, carrying a faint, chilly fragrance.

“It should be about time.”

Night Frost glanced at the windowsill.

An Eye Orb slipped in through the window. Night Frost reached out and caught it in her palm.

“Who are you?”

Vigilance filled the Eye Orb’s gaze.

Although the girl before him didn’t possess the slightest trace of Mana, he still sensed a connection between her and the Magic Maidens. She had come for him!

His true body was injured. Even if the girl before him were a First Symphony—or even an ordinary person—he had no chance of breaking free.

“You don’t need to be nervous, Mr. Eye Orb. You may not know me, but I know you! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Night Frost, and for now, I’m not a Magic Maiden.”

“I need your help! And I can help you, too.”

A trace of wariness flashed through the Eye Orb’s gaze.

Night Frost wanted to obtain something from him. He knew exactly what it was—the unfinished experimental product he was carrying.

“Don’t worry about how I know about your experiment. I need your bracelet. Let me become the vessel for your experiment. There’s no time.”

Night Frost’s voice was urgent. Somehow, that made the Eye Orb believe her a little more.

“This bracelet hasn’t been tested at all. You’ll die.”

Night Frost took a wooden carving from the table.

It was a keepsake left behind by her parents. Hidden inside was an experimental sample: a pure Magic Stone compressed and sealed by an Array Pattern.

“It’s fine. If I die, take these to the Twelfth District branch and find Illusory Glass. Tell her the time. She’ll believe you and help you…”

“Oh, right. There’s a spare Key beneath the Yunyang Orphanage. The real Key is…”

Night Frost explained a great deal in one breath.

For a moment, the Eye Orb couldn’t digest any of it. What final battle? What gods? Why couldn’t he understand a single thing?

Was this woman insane?

But that was exactly to his liking. If she weren’t crazy, he wouldn’t be interested.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I admire you. You’re crazy, just like me—but also different.”

The Eye Orb reached into his eye and pulled out a bracelet, then handed it to Night Frost.

Feeling the bracelet’s icy touch, Night Frost slowly put it on.

“It’s been a long time.”

Night Frost took the Eye Orb to an open area.

She gently twisted the bracelet. A pitch-black hexagram appeared beneath her feet. The enormous star sank into the ground. Blood seeped into the hexagram, releasing a vast Abyssal Aura.

“Who art thou? Why dost thou bear my aura?”

“Mm… Don’t speak yet. Just watch.”

Night Frost released part of her spirit.

That portion didn’t contain the scene of her expelling the Calamity Dragon’s soul. After all, the Calamity Dragon was an enemy now.

The Calamity Dragon skimmed through it and immediately understood what would happen in the future.

“Time… So this is what happened…”

“My inherited memories tell me that I should return to the Myth and destroy the Mythic Abyss. Alas… I am trapped in the mortal realm.”

“If thou wishest to borrow my power, I agree. I shall allow thee to wield the authority of calamity.”

“But why did I become thy familiar? Thou must explain that clearly!”

Night Frost stuck out her tongue and ran off.

Who would want to stay and listen to a centuries-old childish geezer ramble? She preferred the later Li Dogegg.

Mana and Abyssal Aura intertwined.

Night Frost’s heart was removed. The Black Dragon’s heart replaced it, and the Black Dragon’s soul burrowed into her mind.

At that moment, the contract was complete.

Night Frost turned the bracelet.

Black Flame devoured her clothes. Dark fire condensed over her body, forming a black, high-waisted dress that fell below her knees.

The dress was smooth as silk, yet made of no fabric found in the mortal world. It seemed woven from flame itself. Its hem swayed gently with her movements, like an elf dancing in the night.

“It’s a miracle! This research was made for you!”

Delight flashed through the Eye Orb’s gaze. He hadn’t expected his experiment to succeed.

But this wasn’t the time to celebrate.

Night Frost gathered her spirit. The Black Flame vanished in an instant, and Mana surged from within her, replacing the Abyssal Aura in the blink of an eye.

Crimson Gold Flame wound from Night Frost’s palm to her waist, then extended downward into a black skirt edged with CrimsonGoldFlame patterns.

The sleeves draped lightly over her hands. Strands of silver-glinting hair spilled from the air like a waterfall. Mana wove itself into a ribbon, tying her silver hair into a ponytail that fell gently over her back.

“Cantata Two… and then…”

Night Frost narrowed her eyes and spread her arms.

Black Flame and Crimson Gold Flame surged into her body. Under the burning Black Flame, the pure-white seal within her cracked.

Then the Crimson Gold Flame poured in recklessly, breaking through the remaining layer of white sealing energy.

A door appeared before Night Frost.

It wasn’t locked.

She condensed compressed Mana in her palm and gave the door a gentle push. The great door slowly opened before her.

“Unlock… Ξεκλείδωμα και άνοιγμα.”

Silver-white, Crimson Gold, and pitch-black intertwined.

Crimson Gold Flame wove itself into a pair of crimson-gold wings. Black scales spread lightly across them. Black Flame condensed in Night Frost’s palm, intertwining with the Crimson Gold Flame to form a two-toned spear.

Pitch-black cloth descended like the night sky. Crimson Gold Flame stitched it into a skirt.

Two horns grew from Night Frost’s forehead. Her dark-golden pupils stared forward.

The Eye Orb was stunned by the transformation of Night Frost’s body.

What kind of monster could step from a First Symphony into Chapter Three in an instant?

He couldn’t help recalling Night Frost’s earlier nonsense.

Could everything she said actually be true?

Would he really go adventuring with Night Frost? Would he really enter the Mythic Abyss? Would he truly fight against gods?

Night Frost seemed to understand the Eye Orb’s confusion. She casually cast out a Spirit Thread, which landed on him.

The Eye Orb carefully savored Night Frost’s memories.

This time, he had no choice but to believe her.

“So this is the future… You returned with the power of time to oppose some so-called god? What will you do next? Go to the branch and find Moon Owl?”

“We won’t disturb Moon Owl for now. We’re going to find Illusory Glass.”

Night Frost moved swiftly.

She spread the dragon wings behind her and reached the residential district of Jiuqiong University within a few minutes.

If she remembered the address correctly, Illusory Glass should be living here.

Night Frost knocked on the door.

The Old Woman cautiously opened it, a trace of wariness in her eyes. She had sensed the unknown Mana outside.

“Who are you?”

The Old Woman held a sharp spike formed from earth and stone. One hand rested slightly against the side of the door.

She couldn’t determine Night Frost’s strength. Being cautious was only natural.

“Is Illusory Glass home?”

“Illusory Glass?”

The Old Woman’s brows drew tightly together, as if she were searching her memories.

Only after a long while did she speak.

“Who is Illusory Glass? I only know Illusionary Mist. She’s Illusionary Mist’s… You should go find Moon Owl. Perhaps she knows.”

With a bang, the Old Woman shut the door.

She seemed somewhat afraid of Night Frost.

Night Frost didn’t press her. Just now, she had swept the entire room with her spirit. Illusory Glass truly wasn’t there.

“Could the price of sending you back have been your own existence?”

“We can’t jump to conclusions yet. We have to meet Moon Owl first.”

Night Frost refused to accept that outcome.

“Who did you say you were looking for?”

A sharp spatial Blade tore through space and stabbed toward Night Frost’s brow.

Speak of the devil, and the devil appears.

Night Frost condensed flame and caught Moon Owl’s dagger in a death grip.

Just now, the Old Woman had called Moon Owl back. She’d reported that an exceptionally powerful Magic Maiden had appeared outside her door.

“I’m looking for Illusory Glass.”

“Sorry. I don’t know her.”
