A deep, resonant male voice echoed with the weight of history.
"Killing one is a crime; slaughtering ten thousand makes a hero... Slaughter a million, and you become the ultimate hero. You must have heard this saying."
Yingning and I subconsciously nodded.
I’d not only heard it—I’d done it too.
"But do you know... a great demon once lived these words! She unleashed chaos across Jiuhua Land! That battle is etched in history as—[Five Foxes Turmoil]!"
Don’t mess with me! I know the Five Barbarians’ Uprising, but what the hell is Five Foxes Turmoil? Mocking my low history credits?
"Every race has its own path to advancement. The Human Race relies on faith and legacy. Divine Progeny fuse ancestral bloodlines. The Demon Clan? They advance through slaughter."
Yingning and I exchanged a glance, understanding he meant the three player races in [Zhui Xun II].
In [Zhui Xun II], players chose among three races—equal stats, equal power, but different growth paths.
Human players learned skills and advanced classes through faith and legacy: job changes and skill books. Simple, like most MMOs.
Divine Progeny players learned skills by fusing ancestral bloodlines—using "god-blood" items gained through special quests. Similar to human skill books, really.
In [Zhui Xun II]’s lore, Divine Progeny were descendants of ancient gods, their blood diluted over time. To grow stronger, they fused ancestral god-blood—tradeable like skill books. Higher blood purity meant greater power.
Demon Clan players learned skills by killing specific monsters. Harder, right? But [Spirit-Sealing Urns] changed that. These captured monsters, turning them into tradeable "[Spirit-Sealing Urn containing XX essence]". Use one to summon the monster. So, Demon Clan advancement wasn’t much harder.
That’s why empty [Spirit-Sealing Urns] were essential for every player—vital as health and mana potions. Forget one, and you might miss a high-value skill monster.
"A century ago, the King of the Fox Clan became Yader Continent’s first demigod—just a step from godhood. But for Demon Clan advancement, greater power meant harder progression. Especially for Nine-Tailed Foxes."
Huh? Nine-Tailed Fox?
I stretched my tails before me, counting each one slowly on my fingers...
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine...
No mistake—I was a Nine-Tailed Fox too.
After a closer look, I realized each tail could be clicked for details.
All but the leftmost tail simply read: [Insufficient Rank].
The mysterious voice trembled with grief: "In that battle, eight hundred Human Saint Stage masters, eight hundred Divine Progeny high gods, eight hundred Demon Clan demon kings—all perished! And below Saint Stage? Five hundred million lives across Yader Continent! All slain by her alone!"
"The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox sacrificed lives to ascend, blood-ritualing five hundred million souls to become history’s greatest demon! Yet this left the continent defenseless. When the Demon Clan invaded, the three races had fewer than ten Saint Stage warriors combined. Yader was bathed in blood. Even now, the Demon Realm gate gapes wide open. Demons roam freely, leaving ruin wherever they tread!"
Yingning and I tuned out the rest.
I scratched my head and chuckled mischievously. "Master, I’m awesome, right?"
Yingning nodded dazedly, her gaze blank.
Then I got zapped.
