10. Setting Out!

The Pet Space lay at the heart of Yader Continent—an independent dimension carved out from reality, its vast expanse rivaling the continent itself. In the future, it would become the sanctuary for every player’s magical companions across the entire game. Sadly, since the servers had just launched, I was currently its sole resident.

This space was anchored at Yader Continent’s center because its portal opened atop the highest mountain in the land’s exact middle. Only magical companions could freely enter and exit; players were strictly forbidden.

Instead of teleporting directly to Yingning, I stepped out of the Pet Space and sprinted—gasping for breath—toward the nearest Newbie Village. Yader Continent was enormous, dotted with countless starter villages. Fortunately, one stood close to the exit.

Teleporting straight to Yingning would’ve painted a target on my back. Not smart. Sure, I could’ve crushed those small fries effortlessly, but I couldn’t afford to reveal my strength yet. Every move I made aimed to rescue Yingning without exposing my identity.

I chose a Newbie Village because free transfers between them allowed me to circle behind the enemy undetected—letting them die without ever knowing what hit them.

Before teleporting, I needed to fill my last two experience points. I found the village elder.

“Hahaha! Give it your all, young Adventurers!” The elder boomed, waving off a group of players. His smile froze as he turned to me, eyes wide with confusion. “A-Adventurer… *sir*?”

Nearby players stared like they’d seen a ghost.

*Such blatant favoritism! Is this beauty a premium member?*

No time for small talk. If players recognized me, I’d be swarmed before I could save Yingning. I activated chat filters—locking my NPC dialogue from prying ears.

“Newbie quest! Now!”

The elder jolted, then scrambled. “Ah! The Pet Advancement Quest! Wait—one moment!” He dashed into his hut, rummaging wildly before returning with two gilded, ancient tomes. “Here! The Ice-type and Fairy-type Pet Advancement Manuals. Compiled by the Prime Deity himself. Only the server’s first player with a transcendent-rank companion earns these. May you contribute to Yader Continent’s—wait… where’s your owner? No—*are* you a player or a companion? Error! Identity verification failed. Error code 0x800f091f.”

I’d already shoved the manuals into my pet inventory by the time he glitched.

“Error! Identity verification failed. Error code 0x800f091f…”

Leaving the elder drooling and twitching like a stroke victim, I bolted past stunned players.

*I’m basically a walking bug collection. Better avoid NPCs—Yader Continent’s stroke statistics might skyrocket vertically otherwise.*

Thankfully, I’d snagged the quest before he collapsed:

**Pet Advancement Quest (Stage 1): Find the Pet Trainer**

*Seek the trainer who devoted his life to mastery but never achieved it. He resides north of the village.*

I found him quickly. No chatter. Handed in the quest, leveled to 2, ignored the upgrade rewards, and sprinted for the teleporter.

Yingning was in Greenyin Village.

“Departing Zhenxin Village. Destination: Greenyin Village.”
