In the desolate Dungeon, a song echoes through the air. The voice is coming from the coffin of a certain "Lady Helena, the Nightingale of the White Night".
As a zombie, she doesn't really resist the idea of being buried. In fact, she finds solace lying in the narrow, dark coffin. There's just one problem – it's too boring.
So, Helena starts to sing. Her song is a soothing lullaby with a gentle melody. However, in this dark and decrepit Dungeon, her voice sounds particularly eerie. Enough to scare anyone.
The nearby buried Aze is clearly terrified. Through the soil and coffin planks, Helena can hear the sound of chattering teeth. Apparently, the skeleton is trembling uncontrollably.
"What are you afraid of? And you call yourself a skeleton! How cowardly!" Helena is slightly annoyed. After all, back when she was alive, not just anyone had the chance to hear her beautiful singing voice. They had to pay a high price for tickets!
"Click, click, click!" Aze trembles and responds, meaning: I heard that if you hear a dead person singing, you will be haunted and cursed!
"Haunted? I am definitely very haunted by you right now!" In the darkness, Helena angrily pounds on the coffin lid.
Just then, a sudden loud boom shakes the entire ground. The sound is coming from the direction of the entrance... Has someone forcibly opened the blocked entrance? Are there adventurers here?
Helena immediately becomes nervous. She forcefully covers her mouth to prevent herself from screaming. But at the same time, Aze's trembling intensifies.
Idiot! This will expose us!
Helena tries hard to suppress the urge to shout.
...Step, step, step.
The sound of footsteps grows closer, finally stopping right above Helena. Then, there's the clear sound of metal rubbing against metal. Helena suddenly realizes that it's the sound of a sword being unsheathed!
What should we do? What should we do?
She panics.
However, before Helena can react, a long sword has already pierced through the soil, through the coffin lid, and straight towards her! The tip of the sword stops right at her forehead.
"You can't hide from my 'Evil Detection' skill. Come out, you two undead!" A man's voice commands forcefully from the ground.
Since they have been exposed, there is no choice but to come out.
Helena pushes hard on the coffin cover, pushing away the soil covering it, and clumsily climbs out. Aze, who was buried next to her, does the same.
The knight in front of them is imposing, with a chest plate adorned with the symbol of a "Wheat" shape. It's the symbol of the Holy Star!
This man is a holy knight of the church!
Helena's face is filled with fear as she repeatedly steps back. She knows that every holy knight of the church is a powerful force and considered a natural enemy of skeletons, zombies, vampires, and other undead creatures.
Helena and Aze tremble, too afraid to meet the gaze of the holy knight.
But at the same time, they are puzzled. Why hasn't this man immediately "purified" them? With the strength of a holy knight, it should be effortless.
Following closely behind, another person casually walks over. It's a girl wearing a white robe. The light from the entrance casts a halo-like glow around her.
"Don't be so violent, Arnold," she says in a leisurely tone, with a smile that is difficult to read, "Didn't I say that I wanted to ask them something? Respect and honesty are the prerequisites for communication."
Arnold, the holy knight, furrows his brows, expressing an "how dare you say that about me" expression.
Think about what you did at the tavern this morning.
Regardless, he refrains from voicing his inner thoughts and slowly sheathes his sword. In truth, Arnold also wants to know the true intentions of the lady saint.
The girl calmly approaches. She glances at the trembling skeleton soldier, Aze, and then looks at Helena with a smile, asking:"It seems that you are the residents of this Dungeon. I would like to meet the Lord here, where is he?"
Upon hearing this, Helena's heart tightened.
The Lord? They are looking for Lorne? Since they are from the Church, they must not be friendly... No, I must not let them find Lord Lorne!
After a moment of contemplation, Helena said,
"There is no Lord here."
"Click! Click, click, click!" Aze quickly echoed.
"Hmm, no Lord? That's strange..." The girl tilted her head, lightly tapping her chin with her finger, "The adventurers who came here yesterday didn't say the same."
Helena clicked her tongue gently and quickly changed her response,
"There used to be a Lord, but not anymore. After being robbed by adventurers yesterday, Lord Lorne had enough and didn't want to stay in this broken Dungeon anymore. So he decided to abandon us and run away alone... As for where he went, I don't know."
"Hmph, nonsense! How could a high-level demon give up his Dungeon?" The paladin Arnold sneered, gripping his sword handle with his hand, "Indeed, one should not go easy on these evil creatures."
He drew his long sword again.
"Don't test my patience, zombie... You better give us a satisfactory answer to our previous question. Or would you rather be 'purified' by my holy fire?"
With that, the long sword in the paladin Arnold's hand suddenly radiated light.
Pale flames enveloped the blade, flickering incessantly!
As a zombie, even if her limbs were cut off and her head was severed, Helena could still survive. All she had to do was sew herself back together. But once she was "purified," it meant permanent annihilation.
"I already said, I don't know!"
Helena gritted her teeth and trembled in her answer. Even in this life and death situation, she still had no intention of betraying Lorne.
Aze, the skeleton soldier who was usually as timid as a mouse, suddenly gathered courage. He bravely spread his arms, shielding Helena.
"Oh? Do you want to sacrifice yourself for your comrade?" The paladin Arnold sneered contemptuously, puckering his lips, "Clearly an evil monster, yet trying to imitate human behavior... Ha, how ridiculous."
He raised his long sword without hesitation.
Just then...
"Halt." The girl commanded.
Her voice was not loud, but clear and imposing.
Arnold froze in place, his sword suspended in mid-air.
Cold sweat dripped from his forehead.
...
"Oh, guests at home?"
A voice suddenly came from the direction of the Dungeon entrance.
It was Lorne.
Hearing this familiar voice, Helena temporarily breathed a sigh of relief. She thought, great, Lord Lorne is back... No, wait, it's not great at all!
Her mind became even more tense.
These two people's real target is Lord Lorne!
If he comes back at a time like this, isn't he walking into a trap?!
Lorne, on the other hand, had a carefree and light-hearted expression, as if he was unaware of the danger of the situation.
"Sorry for the wait, I just went out for a bit and kept you two waiting. Looks like my zombies and skeletons haven't been very hospitable... Anyway, Helena, why don't you make some tea for the guests?"
As he spoke, he winked discreetly.
"Okay, sure." Helena hesitated for a moment, then nodded in understanding.
At the same time, the girl dressed in a white robe, referred to as "Lady Saint," had slowly approached Lorne. She suddenly reached out and pinched Lorne's chin, curiously examining him.
If another girl did this, it would only come off as coquettish, but this young lady gave off a completely different impression. Her gaze was clear, her demeanor frank, as if everything was natural.
Lorne was a little confused for a moment.
What's going on with this girl...
Is she this friendly with everyone?
"So, you are the Lord of this place? It seems that you match the description given by those foolish adventurers, completely human in appearance... Well, upon closer inspection, you do have a little bit of handsomeness."She smiled brightly, her violet eyes shimmering:
"You're called Lorne, right?"
In that moment, Lorne suddenly felt like his heartbeat had quickened a few beats.
