Act 239: The Lantern of Ural
update icon Updated at 2025/8/13 17:10:12

The past becomes history, and distant history becomes legend. This statement seems to have some truth to it. After all, even a clear account of a five-thousand-year history is hard to come by, not to mention a history of ten thousand years. For people living in the present, even with all the extraordinary powers of "Magic" and "Chi," and even with the existence of religions and divine radiance still enveloping the earth, the mythical age of ten thousand years ago is too distant, to the point where even those beings who nearly brought about the destruction of the world have been completely forgotten.

One example is the ancient magical race known as the "Angel Killers." They were once able to confront the Angel Ural, who sat below the Goddess of Light. Even the mighty Ares, wielding the divine weapon Longinus, could not easily defeat them. From the perspective of today, their strength even surpasses that of the Holy Rank.

During the final stages of the Age of Legendary War, they brought terrible disasters to the main world. Even the powerful Twelve Radiant Angels were at risk of being slain. Perhaps the only stroke of luck was that the ancient magical race rarely fought together - their power was incredibly strong, capable of shattering space with a wave of their hand. However, their control was rough and unrefined, and they could easily harm their comrades, which gave the beings in Heaven the opportunity to pick them off one by one.

The combined efforts of Ares, the Angel Ural, and the Twelve Radiant Angels managed to stop the spread of the disaster, and one by one, the ancient magical beings were hunted down and annihilated, finally providing a slight relief for Heaven and the human realm.

However, the difficulty in exterminating the last ancient magical being far exceeded everyone's expectations. Unlike all the other magical beings encountered before, this one not only possessed terrifying power but also fully utilized every advantage to create favorable conditions for itself. The process of hunting down the last magical being proved unexpectedly arduous, as even the sealing barrier released by the combined efforts of the Radiant Angels was unable to stop it. Thus, the entire world became a battlefield.

Mountains, plains, canyons, skies, oceans, and even towns and villages - the magical beings, although not intentionally engaged in slaughter, were utterly indifferent to the life and death of the creatures in the main world. The Angels and the warriors were helpless, and even so, tens of thousands of lives perished in the midst of the battle.

It wasn't until the capital of the Human Empire was half destroyed that the Angel Ural realized that continuing to chase after the magical being would only increase casualties. Ultimately, he made up his mind. When the magical being appeared again, Ares directly projected the weapon Longinus, at the cost of destroying a town of a hundred thousand people with its aftermath, piercing through the magical being's body and inflicting a fatal wound upon it.

The defenseless magical being was then surrounded and killed by the Twelve Radiant Angels led by Ural. And it was only at this moment that Ural realized that he had completely underestimated the strength of his opponent.

Although his power was incomparable to that of true deities, this last magical being possessed an seemingly ordinary talent - an immortal body. True to its name, it was eternally indestructible. No matter how many times it was eliminated, it would roar again after a brief silence. Despite being weakened by countless deaths, its physical form remained unyielding.

...

"If we can't kill it, the only solution is to seal it, right? We can't just let it go," Tiran sighed after listening to Lucius' words.

"Yes, three Radiant Angels sacrificed their lives, along with the power unleashed by Angel Ural through a thousand years of slumber, forming a seal powerful enough to seal the strongest magical being," Lucius nodded, carefully examining the ancient scroll in his hand one last time before returning it to Ciella, who then placed it on a floating disc nearby.

After a milky white light faded away, the parchment disappeared, indicating the completion of another inventory check.

"The artifact 'Curse Spell of Gulag' has been stored in the collection," the magical creature standing silently nearby said.

"Are we going to wait here until all the artifacts are checked? How long is that going to take? Are we just going to listen to your stories the whole time?" Aya, feeling bored, yawned and asked.

"It won't take long," Lucius turned around and smiled, speaking casually. "There are only about thirty important items that need to be confirmed."

"What about the rest?" Tiran curiously asked.

"Here, over there." Ciella, who was sitting restlessly, pointed to a corner of the wall.

Following Ciella's finger, Tiran noticed a pile of file bags in the corner, reminiscent of the stacks of test papers in the printing room back in school...

She picked up one at random... "Declaration of Nilsian Independence"..."Kingdom Code"...

"Hey...are these things just randomly thrown here?"

"What else can we do? Those kings insisted on sending them over for safekeeping. We can't refuse, can we? Besides, Aetherion Hall is already secure enough, isn't it? The exclusive space is precious, you know? Are you kidding me, using it to store these scraps?" Ciella's tone became somewhat impatient, clearly not in the mood to explain to Aya and Tiran.

Finally, Lucius finished checking the last artifact.

"Aetherion, retrieve the last artifact. 'Lantern of Ural'."

"Extraction failed, administrator privileges needed."

"..." Lucius turned his head and looked at Ciella.

"..." Ahaha, what a lovely weather today. Shall we go back now? Don't worry, the administrator password is definitely safe, Lucius, calm down."

The Dean stiffly turned away, avoiding eye contact with Lucius.

Clap.

The Deputy Headmaster's hand rested on Ciella's shoulder, stopping the fleeing Dean.

"Ciella, do you think I'm a fool?" Lucius pushed his glasses and raised an eyebrow. "When I entrusted the lantern to you, you swore that there would be no mistakes."

"Ah, alright, alright. Just take it out!" Ciella gave up and scratched her head. "Aetherion, bring out the lantern."

"Sir Ciella, you asked me to not retrieve the lantern if Mr. Lucius was present. Shall I cancel this order?"

"Uh, well..." The Dean was about to cry. Damn it, this guy is trying to drive me crazy! Lucius's gaze could kill!

"Hehe, isn't this an awkward situation?" the princess chuckled and couldn't help but laugh.

Lucius crossed his arms and watched as Ciella operated, muttering to himself, "The soul of the last demon seed is sealed inside this lantern. If something unexpected happens..."

As he spoke, a burst of light flashed, slowly revealing the outline of a lantern on the disc.

As soon as Lucius saw the outline of the lantern, he seemed to relax, but his expression changed the next second after he saw it clearly.

Tiran also looked surprised. Huh, this thing looks familiar, like I've seen it before.

Hey hey.

Isn't this... the wall lamp that Timo used the most in the academy?! Black iron frame, vintage design, polished smooth glass lampshade that exuded an "ordinary" vibe everywhere. Is this the legendary seal?

And there are some slight damages and wall dust on the handle that was used to fix to the wall. There is even a screw in a screw hole?! This thing must have been taken off the wall casually!

"I mean, you said you would handle it perfectly and without a hitch..." Aya leaned over to Ciella, her lips twitching.

"Ah ah ah! God! What can we do now? It will take a long time to make a high-quality replica! And Dia and Lucas are about to come! We can only put something together and stuff it in there!"

"Ciella!"

Lucas roared, frightening the principal into standing up straight.

"Explain yourself, where is the lantern!"

Standing beside Lucas, Tiran could clearly feel a strong aura emanating from him, causing a gust of wind to blow the documents in the corner of the wall.

Unlike the angry scolding when Ciella ran away earlier, Lucas seemed genuinely angry now, his eyes so dark and filled with impending danger.

Aya started to panic. Was the lantern really that important? Wait, yes! Lucas just mentioned it, sealing an ancient demon seed?! Then, doesn't that mean...

"Damn it, Ciella! You tricked me! You said it was just a regular magic item?!"

"It's not our fault! He ate the lantern!"

The principal panicked and pointed at Aya loudly.

Princess and Lucas, who were ready to explode, both had puzzled expressions. The information was overwhelming.

...

About five minutes later.

"So, what you're saying is, when you captured the Dragon, it was actually Aya, and when he escaped, he accidentally ate the lantern in your lab?"

"Technically, yes." Ciella knelt on the ground, cautiously looking up at Lucas.

"You didn't say it was this important back then! And sealing a demon seed? Quickly, find a solution to get it out!" Aya clutched her stomach, looking even more frantic than Ciella.

For heaven's sake, back then, all she wanted was a little revenge on this guy who used her for magic resistance testing, so she dismantled her lab. And then she saw a beautiful lantern and casually ate it because she liked it. She had planned to spit it out and put it in her treasure pile after running away, but somehow, it reacted strangely once it entered her body and she couldn't get it out.

"Setting him aside for a moment, explain to me why the lantern that was supposed to be in the storage room ended up in the lab. And if you didn't capture him, would we be in this mess?"

Knowing that the lantern was safe, Lucas finally relaxed a bit, but his anger towards Ciella was still not diminished.

"I just wanted to study it a little bit... It was so rare." The principal also felt helpless and argued in a low voice, "And besides, it's just changing the location, right? Little Aya is strong, not so easy to die. Plus, even we couldn't get the lantern out. It's impossible for an ordinary person..."

Lucas was stunned for a moment by her words. It seemed to make some sense... No, now is the time to hold her accountable!

"No more excuses! If I hadn't been kept in the dark all this time, and Dia the Great Sage too, it's way too much! You must reflect on this properly!"

"Stop arguing! None of that matters! Quickly think of a way to get this thing out!" Aya went crazy.
