Lanhan disembarked from a mid-level ship in the convoy, which appeared plain and unpretentious, yet it was actually the one with the least passenger capacity, after all, it belonged to Rovi.
"President, here are your documents," a man inside the ship said as he placed the files down. He was a wolf-type beastman who followed behind Rovi.
Rovi, with her back facing him, sat in a chair, her gaze fixed on the sea outside the ship where a massive storm with flashing red lightning was brewing, and the lights emitted by five huge objects accompanied the scene, giving an impression of some sort of ritual taking place.
"The ship has been shaking all along, is it because of that?" Rovi asked calmly.
"The helmsman reported prolonged imbalanced power output from the engine room, causing insufficient balance in the ship's structure. I have instructed them to minimize the shaking as much as possible."
"Power imbalance?"
"The power comes from the magic crystal stones known as the underwater magic crystals. The distant storm has been causing irreparable interference with the formation of the crystals."
"If it's not sabotage, then don't trouble the helmsman. Is the confession from the suspects limited to this?" Rovi flipped through the documents filled with text.
"They mentioned a lot of irrelevant things, seemingly a result of drug aftereffects. Upon screening, it seems that one is a warrior, and the other is a general. Pressuring them too much might lead to a diplomatic crisis," the man hinted, indicating the interrogators' concerns about the lack of valuable information in the confession.
"Drug? I will go and see."
In the interrogation room, just across from Rovi's room, it was a quick in-and-out process.
Five interrogators sat around Folus and Tianhe Zhengyi.
"Rovi?"
"Tianhe Zhengyi, still recognize me, I see the aftereffects are not too severe."
"We have said everything we should. The mastermind is someone named Gui... uh!" Tianhe Zhengyi seemed to be struggling to maintain clarity.
"Do you want diplomatic immunity? But if you already have mental trauma, you won't mind a little more injury. Also, The Divine Realm is still shielding you after experimenting with your bodies. How foolish can you be?" Rovi flung her red cloak, smiled at the interrogators, turned around, and left without looking back, ignoring the room's ensuing cries.
"Madam President, they..."
"Their country won't help them. Regardless of who attracted that dragon wreathed in flames, just abusing drugs to massacre civilians out of public outrage will lead to their abandonment. Plus, 'Raku' has only a few remaining god-tier members left. This troublesome organization has a good chance of being rooted out among the five nations."
"You should rest, Your Excellency. When we arrive at Bolei Island, you will need more energy to handle affairs."
"It's okay. No one here can sleep facing our ruined homeland... Who will survive when the storm passes?"
"Qin Yang... it's not as bad as rumored, at least..."
Rovi interrupted, "Are we blocking something? Othrie's reputation is so-so; beautiful women are plenty, they have done both good and bad deeds. Let's be truthful and send a message to clarify things after they have been resettled tomorrow."
Suddenly, the ship shook violently, and the man immediately supported Rovi, shouting into the communicator, "What's happening?"
The helmsman's voice came through the communicator on the other end, "The storm's interference has become too difficult to contain. We can only tough it out until we are out of the interference range."
"Report on the conditions of the two prisoners' bodies, including drug tests. They match the drug samples from the Empire of Othrie, even the enhanced versions," another man urgently reported to Rovi amidst the intense shaking.
"They are just waiting for their confession."
The blood-red lightning storm lasted until noon, with the Dragon Maiden guarding the periphery, blocking the Fire Dragons' attempts to break through time and time again. The equipment on her body seemed quite heavy.
In the center of the storm, during a period of strange mutations, a new land emerged. It would be more accurate to say that this was not a newly discovered land, but a land that had sunk and risen again, with scenes of broken walls and ruins, tanks and airplanes scattered about. The styles were outdated, matching the technology of The Human Realm from thirteen thousand years ago, a realm devoid of any magic elements back then. These were advanced weapons, and there were even robots. If the magical era had arrived a century or two later, it might have been the era of robots.
"Sigh~~~ This fatso is really heavy."
Dragging the humanoid Fire Dragon, who called himself Zhu Rong, I walked onto the coast of this new land, leaving deep and wide marks behind.
"Why... did you lock me in human form, instead of... just killing me, destroying my dragon soul?"
"Hehe, do you really think I still have that ability! My seal can only last for a while, so I hope you can calm down during this time. And your dragon body is like a second sun to us."
I lay next to Zhu Rong, exhausted, gazing at the storm under the sunlight.
"The questions you want to ask, I'm afraid I can no longer answer." Zhu Rong's dismissive gesture was very lazy, as if he hadn't slept for days, unable even to keep his eyes open.
"Hey, hey! Can you make yourself clearer?"
"There is something... or some kind of limit... my memories have been constantly erased..."
I rode on Zhu Rong's back, slapping his face hard to wake him up.
"Don't fall asleep, what memory wiping? Are you saying that once we dragons come here, our memories will be wiped clean? But we still remember the Dragon language, Dragon script, and all our customs. Everything seems normal!"
"It's targeted. Unlike me, the memories I had when I arrived here didn't disappear. Now, every time I close my eyes, even I forget the reasons to kill you... I've forgotten the Dragon Realm already. It's gone. Why can't it stay in my memory? Why..." A tear glistened in Zhu Rong's eyes. Losing both homeland and memories was not only tragic but deadly.
"Then tell me what you remember now."
Zhu Rong hesitated, perhaps because he didn't want to be a stranger in this strange land.
Zhu Rong recounted the remaining fragments of his memories to me, all pointing to a world where the "sun never sets," a world fractured and beyond our reach, a world of gentle and warm light without night. Zhu Rong was about to forget it, leaving me only with a fantasy, but this fantasy felt oddly familiar. I believed I came from there too.
"Wait..." Zhu Rong suddenly opened his eyes, seemingly realizing something.
"What's wrong?"
"The Guardian Dragon of the sacred artifact is not dead, which means... the core of the Dragon Realm—Midnight Bamboo still exists! Yes, no one can obtain it unless the Guardian Dragon is dead."
"Midnight Bamboo? What does it look like? What is its use?"
"I... I can't remember."
"Don't fall asleep. Besides that, what else is there? Hey, hey..."
Damn it, this fatso fell asleep again. He must have reached his limit to resist the disappearing memories.
I leaned against Zhu Rong's round belly, trying to comprehend the memories of dragons. What kind of power was that? But Marutian seemed unharmed, pointing back to him.
There are so many tedious things going on, my head is spinning. I retrieved the Dragonbone Sword, drew out the sword from its sheath, broke the fusion of souls, and in an instant, the world seemed to spin. I felt numb, slowly got up, and all I could see in my eyes was this wreckage. Suddenly, I stepped into nothingness and fell in front of a snow-white bosom. Silky golden hair brushed against my dirty face.
"Hey, Elena... " Looking at that face, I felt so blissful, and I swore this time no one could take her away from me.
"Let's go home, Qin Yang."
"Yes... I am Qin Yang."
