The railcar lived up to its name as a railcar, and it took less than a day to reach Daelnert.
Daelnert is not a particularly prosperous city, but it has a unique flavor.
The feeling of an old town allows one to feel a sense of history while being there.
Every brick seems to have a distant age.
The sparsely populated pedestrians not only do not make one feel lonely, but rather add a poetic touch.
The overall color tone is grayish-yellow, walking in the city is like wandering in memories.
Clearly, this is a place worth visiting.
However, Brey did not have a particular interest in appreciating it; only Virginia was truly immersed in the city's style.
And while Virginia strolled around the scenic area, Brandi had to keep an eye on her.
"Brey, look!!! Doesn't it feel like an old photograph?!"
"Brey!! Ah!! This is the first time I've seen such architecture!!"
"Hey hey!! It feels even more ancient than the antiques at my home!!!"
Amidst Virginia's excitement, it took Brey two more days to finally arrive at the site of the ruins in Daelnert.
"We are recruited adventurers." Brey pulled out the proof and showed it to the person standing at the entrance of the ruins.
"Alright, you can go in whenever you're ready. If you need anything, it's provided over there." The person guarding the entrance pointed to a box nearby.
Those are probably supplies.
The Empire of Wil is indeed wealthy.
The area around the entrance of the ruins was bustling with many adventurers coming in and out.
Any new route discovered or relic found would lead to additional rewards.
Of course, the person who made the discovery also had the right to take it away, but the compensation would be deducted.
Brey glanced at Virginia, who stood behind him with anticipation on her face, and couldn't help but sigh.
Brey also tried to fill his dull eyes with a sense of anticipation.
"Virginia, can you see the anticipation in my eyes?"
"..." Virginia turned her face away.
"Sorry, I only see dead fish." Brandi smirked.
The joke didn't work out too well, and Brey looked despondent.
"Brandi!" Virginia stomped her foot.
"..." Brandi had been planning to continue teasing Brey but, based on Virginia's attitude, remained silent instead.
"Never mind, let's go inside."
---
The ruins were brightly lit, with lights dotting the entire path.
The stale air in the long-unopened ruins began to circulate with the arrival of new visitors.
"Generally, newly opened ruins cannot be entered at will."
"Why?" Virginia tilted her head and asked.
"It seems that the air sealed in the ruins makes it very uncomfortable to breathe."
Brey didn't really understand the reason, but there were many things to be cautious about when entering the ruins.
There were many adventurers walking through the tunnels, making it feel more like a market than anything else.
"With so many people, it would be disastrous if something happened."
"Brey, please don't say things like that!" Virginia was a little angry.
"Okay."
"Keep your negative thoughts to yourself," Brandi added.
"..." Brey chose to keep his mouth shut.
Although the bricks on the walls seemed eroded by the passage of time, the carvings on them were still clear.
Unseen monsters, countless humans wielding weapons, and destroyed cities were depicted in the paintings.
The story depicted in the paintings didn't seem very clear.
Then, Brey's footsteps suddenly stopped.
Brey vaguely remembered the monsters depicted in the murals.
Following the pattern with his finger, Brey's eyelids drooped.
—"Demon, Angel, Aquatic."
Just then, Brey saw those creatures lying at the feet of a human.
Wearing black armor and wielding two enormous swords.
"Brey?" Virginia's voice snapped Brey out of his contemplation.
"What's wrong?" Virginia looked at Brey with concern on her face."It's nothing, I just wanted to know what the words above were saying."
"Probably just a story about heroes leading the people to defeat monsters and protect their homeland. Maybe it's even a legend about a brave warrior defeating the demon king!" Virginia blushed and exclaimed excitedly.
"Miss... You've seen brave warriors before, haven't you?" Bianca whispered into Virginia's ear.
"Shh!!" Virginia glared at Bianca.
"Brave warriors... hmm..." Suddenly, Brey remembered his recent heartbreak and his face darkened.
Currently, Brey was still in the upper levels of the ruins and hadn't reached the deepest part yet.
"Hurry up, or we won't find anything if we go too slowly," Brey said and walked ahead.
"Okay... okay!!" Virginia quickly responded.
Although Brey had always been in a state of despair, Virginia had never seen him with such a gloomy expression before.
"Bianca, what's wrong with Brey?"
"He looks like a useless man who has been heartbroken," Bianca summed up Brey's state insightfully.
"And he probably has some connection with the brave warrior."
"Um..." Virginia didn't know what to say.
She glanced at Brey.
After working together for such a long time, Virginia felt that Brey was a reliable person with a sharp mind.
But Brey wasn't strong, to put it bluntly, he was quite weak.
It was hard to imagine how Brey could have any connection with the brave warrior.
---
As Brey, Virginia, and Bianca went deeper into the ruins, the surrounding light grew darker.
"Virginia?"
When Brey and the others reached the bottom, a voice filled with surprise sounded.
The voice was very pleasant, and Brey was familiar with it.
It belonged to a beautiful woman, Nisa.
"Why are you here..." Nisa hurriedly approached after seeing Virginia.
"Bianca! Block Nisa's mouth!" Virginia exclaimed in panic.
"Mm..." Nisa looked puzzled as she saw Bianca covering her mouth.
Although Nisa could easily break free, it was clear that she had no intention of doing so.
Bianca bit Nisa's ear and whispered.
After a while, Bianca adjusted her attire and stood dignifiedly behind Virginia.
"Cough... I think I understand the situation..." Nisa looked at Virginia strangely.
"An acquaintance?"
"Yes."
Then Brey nodded and walked to the side.
"Brey, what are you doing?"
"Giving you space and time to catch up," Brey said seriously.
"Thank you!" Nisa also thanked him seriously.
He's such a serious person.
"Well... you guys can chat..."
Brey sat down and gently flicked his sword a few times.
—"Hey, even if I flick you, you won't bleed... you're really not sharp at all."
