Chapter Twelve
"She's my brother's high school classmate."
"What a surprise, classmates! It's all Ruoxi's fault for making such a fuss!"
"How can you blame me? It does look likely…"
"By the way, where are they going with all these things?"
Bell Tong noticed the large and small bags in Samson Nan's hands.
"Yuyu, I'm talking to you!"
"Huh? Oh."
"Are you daydreaming? It's broad daylight!"
"I don't know, my brother didn't tell me…"
She just stared at Samson Nan's side profile, unblinkingly.
The light was too intense for her to see clearly, his face bathed in sunlight or perhaps a smile.
"What! Your brother doesn't tell you everything? There must be a catch to this!"
Bell Tong whispered in a gossipy and mysterious manner.
"What could be wrong? Besides, it's none of my business…"
"Oh dear Yuyu, how is it none of your business?"
Seeing that Raina Nan was still unresponsive, she continued:
"Think about it, if she ends up being your sister-in-law, your bad days are coming! What if your brother doesn't care for you anymore and starts caring for her instead!"
"Nonsense!"
Her face was a bit hot, and her head was spinning inexplicably.
"I'm just trying to give you a heads up~"
Of course, Bell Tong meant no harm, she was just teasing Raina Nan for some fun.
"Hey! They're coming over!"
Roxie Lin anxiously tugged on Bell Tong's sleeve.
In their panic, the three girls hid in a fast-food restaurant nearby.
They sat down casually, chatted and ate, but she wasn't taking in anything they talked about.
...
Was it Jocelyn York, the one who claimed to deliver goods to Samson Nan and ended up spending the whole day with him?
Walking home, Raina Nan felt her head aching, so she went a longer route in hopes that it would ease her discomfort.
She texted him, but got no response.
When did he dare not reply to her messages? That never happened before.
Taking out her keys, she opened the door.
"I'm home~"
She called out, but there was no reply. Were her parents not home either?
After changing her shoes, she went upstairs.
But as she reached her room, she stopped.
The door was open.
She always locked her room when she left because her mother would sneak in and raid her room.
Looking for love letters or any signs of young love, no doubt.
Why was the door open?
She was undeniably nervous, had there been a burglar in her house?
Cautiously, she edged close to the wall and peeked inside the room.
"Little one, what are you doing?"
"Ahh!!"
She was startled by the voice behind her.
"Brother? Brother?!"
Her hand on her chest, she looked up at him.
He was home earlier than she was?
"Really? You were scared like that? You're too timid!"
He laughed heartily, patting her head.
"Get off!"
She shoved his hand away.
Then she remembered that she had given him the only spare key.
"What's wrong with sitting in your room for a while? You're so mean!"
"I don't want to talk to you…”
"Heh, been out for a day and you're already upset?"
"None of your business, not even replying to my text!"
She had intended to ignore him, but couldn't help but spill out her annoyance.
"Text? When? My phone ran out of battery, look!"
He took out his phone and shook it in front of her.
It was indeed out of battery.
"I see..."
Her anger diminished, maybe she was overthinking?
"So where have you been today?"
Her tone softened a lot.
"I, what else could I do? Just stayed home."
"…"
There was a pause.
"At 5 o'clock in the afternoon, Haixing Middle Road."She reported the exact coordinates of where she saw him today...
The muscles in his face twitched slightly.
Why lie? She had intended to hear what he and Jocelyn York had been up to that afternoon, but he had no intention of telling her...
“Huh?”
Samson Nan was clearly surprised, but she cut him off as he began to speak.
“Forget it, I don't care to hear your explanation!”
“Raina, I didn't mean to deceive you, but that...”
Samson Nan wore an extremely pained expression.
She suddenly felt like crying, but for whom?
“Keeping it from you, I feared you'd be angry. Truth be told, some high school classmates arranged a gathering, inviting us single ones.”
A gathering? She knew what that meant. A group of men and women getting together to dispel their loneliness.
“Shameless!”
“They are old classmates; I found it hard to refuse. The reason Locha came to look for me today was because of this…Actually, it was nothing much. I just went to show up and left~ Don’t think too badly of it~”
Samson Nan desperately tried to explain, but his face was filled with anxiety.
Didn’t she, his little sister, know what sort of person her brother was? What she was really angry about was that he had lied to her.
“Mr. Nan!”
Suddenly, a shout came from downstairs.
“Come down, everyone is here!”
The sudden shouting exploded in her head. Angry, she rushed to the window and saw a group of a dozen men gathered below.
She recognized all of them; they were Samson Nan's naughty friends from high school and they knew her very well. William Wei was standing in the front, seeing Raina Nan, a smile immediately spread across his face:
“Little sis, call Nan...”
“Drop dead! Always engaging in these dull activities! He is not here!!”
She yelled loudly at them and the crowd fell silent. However, this only lasted a few seconds before the crowd burst into laughter.
“Little sis is really scary today—”
“Nan has been bullying her, hasn’t he—”
“Haha, an eruption—”
“Get lost!!”
Just when she was about to burst, about to jump down from the window, Samson Nan grabbed and pulled her behind him.
He went to the window and said to them:
“Not going today, a bit busy.”
“What rubbish—”
“You guys are stupid, what else can you do with your sister—"
"It's just a few minutes, quick—"
Another round of laughter erupted from downstairs.
Samson Nan suddenly became flustered. He quickly shouted at them:
“Hey, my sister is still here, don't be disgusting, OK? I... I have to work overtime later."
William Wei looked up at Samson Nan and chuckled to his friends behind him:
“Forget it, forget it, Mr. Nan is whipped, let's not force him!”
When Raina Nan heard this, her just-calmed brain immediately boiled again.
She ran to the window, yelled at William Wei and his group:
“Whipped! Who is controlling him!”
“Haha, admitted to being Nan's little wife, admitted—”
Laughter erupted from downstairs, making her tremble with anger. She stomped angrily, her cheeks flushed with rage.
“Okay.”
Samson Nan wore a slightly angered face.
“Don't be too much.”
“Not fun anymore, off you go!”
Seeing Samson Nan getting genuinely angry, William Wei laughed and prepared to leave, pulling up a friend who was doubled over with laughter.
“Samson Nan, jokes aside, you better go later. You promised those girls after all.”
William Wei left after saying this.
Samson Nan stood by the window, letting out a long sigh.
He turned his head, looking at her with some displeasure.
“Raina, what's wrong with you? You're acting like a shrew.”
“From now on, don't talk to me!”"Hehe, why are you mad at me? It's them who can't keep their mouths shut, not me." His face changed faster than the speed of light. With a servile smile, he took her hand and placed it on his own cheek. "Are you still leaving?" She finally managed to utter a few words with a hint of tears in her voice. "How about this, come with me!" "Huh?!" "You'd be okay with this, wouldn't you?" His smile was so bright, as reassuring as sunshine. "Well, I don't really mind..." She pursed her lips, letting out a giggle. "You're just jealous!" He pinched her cheek with a mischievous grin. "Who said I was jealous? Get lost!!" "Hehe…" But after all...Taking his sister to a social event? That's a first...
