Perspective: Mary

"Why do I have to make a special trip to Nightsteel City? I would really lose out if I didn't go, right?"

After receiving information from the Sheldon family through Fir, the next morning Beatrix and I boarded the train to Nightsteel City. Thankfully, all expenses can be reimbursed, otherwise I wouldn't want to go.

I really want a vacation, to find a place to eat and drink heartily, that's the true way to enjoy life.

"Hehehe~ At first, I thought you were a very serious type, but I didn't expect you to be like Fir, not following the rules."

The girl sitting across from me in a Felia shell is the former Dark Elf Queen. If you tell me she's not powerful, I absolutely wouldn't believe it. After all, she immediately took down the entity that had previously occupied Fir's body, she's definitely a powerhouse. I definitely wouldn't want to fight against an opponent like her; it would take countless lives to be enough to offer.

"What's so serious about that? Everyone is pretty much the same, just complete the mission properly."

Despite this girl being thousands of years older than me, she can still maintain the appearance of a teenage girl, which is truly enviable.

But come to think of it... it seems that our appearance won't change after coming to this world, I wonder if it's because we haven't been here long enough. If it's true that our appearance won't change like in ordinary games, that's actually a good thing...

Ah, getting old indeed, already at the age of lamentation, it's really annoying...

"If you want, I don't mind teaching you how to transfer your soul to another body."

"Pfft."

I was shocked by her words and looked at her, only to see her looking very interested.

"You, having mind-reading abilities too..."

"Just because my senses are too strong, I pick up on the fluctuations of what you're thinking."

"Hey hey hey, that's not really an explanation, is it?"

"Just imagine like when someone is talking beside you, even though you don't want to listen, you accidentally hear what they're saying."

Well, I guess you have a point.

"But isn't that very inconvenient? You'll end up hearing things you don't want to as well, right?"

"Well..."

Her expression became a bit melancholic.

"Everything comes at a cost, doesn't it?"

"That's true."

As we chatted, the train began to slow down.

Looking up at the magical symbols next to the carriage, it seems we have reached our destination.

"Let's go, I heard this is a powerful magical industrial city, we might find some good things too."

"Industrializing magic..."

Beatrix looked somewhat pleased.

"I had such plans back then, but before I could implement them, the war began. If I had another 100 years, to implement industrialization, we Dark Elves would definitely be able to rule the world."

She said this with a face full of excitement, but luckily her voice was not loud; if someone else heard, they might think she's at a late stage of chuunibyou.

"What does chuunibyou mean? I remember Fir once used a similar term."

"...Just consider it as having a rich imagination."

"Is that so? But I always feel like it's a derogatory term."

"The same word indeed has different meanings in different places, well, I'm just stating the facts, how you interpret it is your own business."

Watching Becky deep in thought, I could only smile bitterly.

Now, I should focus on the task at hand, continue to let her capture my thoughts, most likely I'll have to figure out how to explain many things. What a bother!

According to Fir's words, we kept walking along the streets of Nightsteel City until we reached a certain alley.

Glancing at the stone wall in front of me, confirming nobody was around, I gave a push to the darkest brick among them.

Silently, a door appeared on the stone wall in front of me, pitch black inside, completely indiscernible.

"Are we going in?"

Becky asked.

"You already know the answer, I refuse to believe you can't feel where the real entrance is."

"Hehe."

The other side stuck out their tongue, then turned and walked to a seemingly inconspicuous spot that looked like the back door of a house, and turned the handle.

Instead of being pushed open, the door was slid aside like a sliding door. The hole that appeared in the stone wall just vanished without a sound.

"Turns out there's such a troublesome mechanism, if deceived and entering through that entrance, one would probably end up in grave danger."

Although I have no idea what's inside.

"Indeed, one will be directly transported to another place, I'm not sure where exactly, but there's a very familiar aura on the other side of that portal."

"Is that so..."

How did Fir and the others find this entrance in the first place? Or was it that they didn't enter through this entrance at the beginning?

Ah, forget it.

"Let's go, before someone else comes."

Saying that, I walked past Becky and entered the passage directly.

"Really, who designed this, so dark that if one isn't careful, they might fall down the stairs."

I complained as I walked down.

"Oh really? Then close your eyes for a bit."

Just as Becky finished speaking, she suddenly reached out and covered my eyes from behind.

A green light flashed, and when she let go again, I could suddenly see the entire passage clearly!

"Quite convenient..."

"Isn't it? Come learn dark magic with me, it's a great deal."

"..."

Why do I feel like this guy is pitching me something.

But learning dark magic does have its benefits for me.

"Let's talk about it later..."

I had just finished saying that when suddenly I caught sight of our target.

Thankfully, I could see the name directly, in just a blink, I saw a person a short distance away with the name Beatrice Shelley written above their head.

Truly a stroke of luck...

"Let's go, target acquired."

"Yeah, looks like it's going to be fun~"
