Chapter 1: I’ve Transmigrated!

“Ziyao, you’re joining the production today. Are you ready?” In the black van, the crew coordinator who’d come to pick up Lin Ziyao was confirming the schedule with her. Director Chen had dug this independent trainee up from who-knows-where and invited her to take part in the show.

Since Director Chen himself had personally picked her, the crew coordinator treated her with extra courtesy and had come to pick her up in person. At the sight of Lin Ziyao, even he—despite having met plenty of celebrities while working with Director Chen—couldn’t help being drawn to her.

Lin Ziyao had no idea what the crew coordinator was thinking. Her gaze was unfocused, and she didn’t respond. Right now, her mind was in the middle of a storm of thoughts, which could be summed up in just four words.

I’ve transmigrated!

Transmigration wasn’t the point. The point was, she’d actually become a girl!

According to the original owner’s memories, Director Chen had invited her to appear on a dating reality show.

The story behind it was a bit of a cliché. Lin Ziyao had been short on money and working a part-time job when she ran into Director Chen at her workplace.

Director Chen had been struggling to cast the show. When he saw what Lin Ziyao looked like, he happily invited her to join the production. Lin Ziyao needed the money, so the two hit it off and signed a contract right away.

“Did you understand what I just said?”

The crew coordinator rapped hard on the notebook in front of him, trying to draw her attention back.

“Huh? Sorry!” Distracted, Lin Ziyao quickly apologized.

The crew coordinator sighed. “I’ll say it again. Your job this time is to stir things up on the show and make it more dramatic for the audience.”

She took the script from the crew coordinator and already had a general idea of the role she’d be playing on the show. To put it simply, she had to act like a green tea girl.

She turned toward the black van’s window and saw her reflection. Her eyebrows were slender, her skin was fair, and now and then her eyes seemed to glisten with tears. She had the kind of look that could bring out a man’s protective instincts. If she’d looked like this in her previous life and so much as beckoned to her former self, she figured he wouldn’t have lasted ten seconds before turning into a devoted simp.

What a green tea girl!

Lin Ziyao sighed inwardly.

Before she could keep looking, the van had already reached the filming location: a secluded resort that was closed for the off-season.

The crew coordinator suddenly smacked his forehead as he remembered something. “I almost forgot. Since we’re filming in a closed-off location, you’ll have to hand in your phone.”

With that, he quickly took out a plastic bin and motioned for Lin Ziyao to put her phone inside.

Lin Ziyao looked a little troubled. “Can I call home first?”

Lin Ziyao didn’t go far, so the crew coordinator could still just make out her voice as she spoke on the phone.

“Grandma, have you been listening to the doctor and taking your medicine?”

“Don’t worry about the hospital bills. I found a good job recently, so just focus on your stay in the hospital!”

Only after hanging up did Lin Ziyao put her phone in the plastic bin. Then she followed the crew coordinator to report to Director Chen.

This was exactly why the original owner had agreed to join Director Chen’s show. She needed money. Her grandmother, who’d been her only family for as long as she could remember, was in the hospital. Never mind the treatment costs—the hospital fees alone were enough to leave her scrambling. She’d had to work several part-time jobs a day just to cover the costs of her grandmother’s stay, and the relentless grind had worn the original owner down.

“Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Grandma,” Lin Ziyao promised softly. It was one of the few things she could do for the original owner.

But in her previous life, Lin Ziyao had just been an ordinary office worker. She’d followed the entertainment industry for gossip and little else. She’d gotten lucky this time and been invited by Director Chen because of her looks, but luck couldn’t last forever. There’d always come a time when people got tired of a pretty face with nothing else to offer.

She could only take things one step at a time. If all else failed, she’d take a break from school and get a job.

Thinking of that, Lin Ziyao couldn’t help sighing.

While Lin Ziyao was lost in thought, she and the crew coordinator arrived at the filming site. Director Chen was sitting in a chair with a cigarette between his lips, watching the crew adjust the equipment.

When he saw someone approaching from the entrance, Director Chen stubbed out his cigarette. He turned, recognized Lin Ziyao, and greeted her. “Ziyao, you’re here?”

“Director Chen!” Lin Ziyao felt kindly toward him, since he’d been willing to pay half her fee in advance.

After they’d exchanged greetings, Director Chen waved a hand and pointed to the seats nearby. “Go get to know the guests who’ve arrived. I’ve still got a few things to wrap up. Once everyone’s here, I’ll explain how the show works. And remember, we’ve already started filming.”

Lin Ziyao turned to look and saw someone already sitting nearby who’d arrived before her. She tried to recall the guest information the crew coordinator had given her earlier.

Yang Tian was an internet celebrity on a certain website, as well as a trainee under Starlight Entertainment. He usually shared snippets of his daily life on his video account and had already built up quite a following online despite not having debuted yet. He was probably joining Director Chen’s show to drum up some buzz.

Lin Ziyao wanted to get to know him a little before filming began, so she held out her hand and greeted Yang Tian. “Hi!”

Hearing someone greet him, Yang Tian—whose thoughts had been wandering—brightened at once. Even among the trainees at his company, he’d never met a girl who made him feel so protective. Her sweet, delicate voice set his imagination running wild.

With Yang Tian’s hand wrapped tightly around hers, Lin Ziyao’s skin prickled with goosebumps. She wanted to pull her hand away as quickly as possible.

Lin Ziyao really couldn’t get used to the way men looked at her.

【A reality show set has been detected. Assigning a suitable task to the host.】

A system!

The system’s appearance made Lin Ziyao forget to pull her hand away. She hadn’t expected it to awaken now. She’d thought things like this only existed in novels.

She exchanged a few distracted pleasantries with Yang Tian, then couldn’t wait to find a seat so she could see what task the system had assigned.

She asked quietly, “System? Have you assigned my task?”

【Please have one of the guests on set experience a lap pillow.】

“Hey! Yang Tian’s the only guest here right now!” Lin Ziyao’s vision went dark when she saw the task the system had assigned. She might as well have thrown away a system like this from the start.

Just imagining Yang Tian resting his head on her soft, full thighs made Lin Ziyao feel sick.

【This is a beginner task. Two rewards of your choice are included.】

The system showed her the range of rewards she could choose from, and Lin Ziyao’s eyes lit up. Works she’d known in her previous life were right there, along with scripts for movies and TV shows. If every task came with rewards like this one, then even without any connections or resources, Lin Ziyao could make a name for herself in the entertainment industry of this world.

But what the system said next brought Lin Ziyao back to cold reality.

【Please complete the task within one hour. Failure to do so will count as a failed task.】

She had to figure out a way to get one of the guests who’d arrive later to rest their head on her lap.
