“Captain, do you know how many unregistered Magical Girls there are in Tianhai City?”

“Xiaoxiao, did something happen?”

It only took a few seconds for Captain Meng Ting to reply to Bai Xiaoxiao. She was already swamped, investigating the Silver Spear Battle Maiden’s true identity. On top of that, she had to screen the countless girls of the right age in Tianhai City. Since transforming could change their build and appearance, finding a silver-haired, twin-tailed little girl was even harder.

When Qu Mengting saw Bai Xiaoxiao’s question, she instinctively assumed Xiaoxiao had run into the Silver Spear Battle Maiden again.

“Mm... Something happened this morning.”

Bai Xiaoxiao told her captain about the two blond guys she’d run into that morning. She made a point of emphasizing that after she left, someone had cut off their fingers—and that she’d sensed a surge of magical energy at the same time. None of her squadmates would do something like that, and the twin-tailed little girl probably wouldn’t go that far either. That was why Bai Xiaoxiao suspected an unknown Magical Girl had appeared in Tianhai City.

After hearing Bai Xiaoxiao’s description, Qu Mengting frowned and searched through the files on her computer.

Before long, she actually found an answer that seemed to fit what Bai Xiaoxiao had asked about.

“Xiaoxiao, are you sure this happened at Haoyouduo Shopping Center?”

“Yes, I’m sure.”

Captain Meng Ting sent her a file. It had the strange name “Fallen Witch Organization.”

“Take a look at this first. I didn’t think the Fallen Witches would show up in a small place like Tianhai City, but it seems their organization has grown quickly over the past few years. They’ve gradually spread across the country.”

Bai Xiaoxiao opened the file and read it carefully. The contents could be summed up as follows.

The Fallen Witch Organization was a small group of Magical Girls that appeared out of nowhere five years ago. When they were first discovered, there were only five of them. Most were outlaws who refused to join the authorities and wanted to use magic however they pleased. They were known to attack ordinary people. In their eyes, humans and magical beasts were no different—they used their magic however they wanted.

To join the organization, a person had to reach A-Rank strength. According to the authorities’ investigation, the founder of the Fallen Witch Organization was a retired veteran Magical Girl. She herself had reached S-Rank and had once served as one of the headquarters’ guardians. Later, she left the organization, claiming that age was catching up with her and her strength had begun to decline. Afterward, she founded the Fallen Witches.

They longed for an unrestrained life and the freedom to use magic however they pleased. Humans and magical beasts were no different in their eyes. Notably, when they came across a human they didn’t like, the organization’s members wouldn’t hesitate to attack.

After reading the brief introduction, Bai Xiaoxiao felt a bead of sweat trickle down her forehead. Only A-Rank Magical Girls could join, and although the Fallen Witch Organization wasn’t large, every member was powerful.

They attacked humans and magical beasts whenever they felt like it. That clearly ran counter to the official Magical Girl organization.

Magical Girls were supposed to bring people love and hope. They shouldn’t abuse their power. At least, that was what Bai Xiaoxiao believed.

What had happened that morning certainly fit the organization’s style. Afraid she’d been targeted, Bai Xiaoxiao asked Captain Qu Mengting if there was anything they could do about it. Captain Qu could only respond helplessly.

“Xiaoxiao, the most I can do for now is report your situation. If headquarters decides you need protection, they might send someone to guard you. But if they decide you can protect yourself... they’ll only send someone to help when you need it.”

After hearing Captain Meng Ting’s response, Bai Xiaoxiao’s face nearly turned white with fright.

What did she mean, they’d only come help when Xiaoxiao needed it? That basically meant she’d have to handle this on her own.

The other side was an organization. It might be small, but its members were definitely stronger than she was.

Still, looking on the bright side, they hadn’t attacked her outright that morning. Maybe they had their reasons for holding back. More than anything, though, Bai Xiaoxiao hoped she’d sensed it wrong and nobody was actually targeting her.

“Oh, right. Wanxin asked me to approve an investigation for the three of you at Tianhai Zoo. A C-Rank magical beast is gathering there. I’ve already had the official personnel seal off all the roads within a five-kilometer radius. The only things left in the zoo are the animals they didn’t have time to move. Remember to message me before you set out tomorrow.”

Before she’d even had a chance to sort out the Fallen Witch situation, another task had been dumped on her.

Weren’t they still on vacation? They had a whole month to go out and have fun. Being forced to work overtime like this was exploitation, plain and simple!

“All right.”

Bai Xiaoxiao wanted to complain, but she still agreed.

Ever since she’d accepted this power, she’d wanted to do something for everyone. Now she had the chance to prove herself. Wasn’t this exactly what she’d been hoping for?

So why couldn’t she feel happy about it? She was even more depressed than when her older brother had made a ton of money in one go. She might already have been targeted by some evil organization. If she had a choice, she’d quit the agency right now.

After lying on her bed with her eyes closed, deep in thought for a long while, Bai Xiaoxiao decided to message Senior Lu Wanxin and Senior Cai Mengmeng first.

“Senior Lu Wanxin, what time are we leaving for the zoo tomorrow to investigate the magical beast? Captain Meng Ting said she’s had the area within five kilometers sealed off. There are only a few animals left in the zoo that they couldn’t move in time.”

“Eight in the morning. Ask Xiaomeng if that works for her, okay? I’m in the shower right now.”

What a coincidence. Senior Lu Wanxin had replied instantly even while she was in the shower. She’d probably typed the message with magic.

“Okay, I’ll ask her.”

Bai Xiaoxiao opened Senior Cai Mengmeng’s chat and had just typed a few words when Cai Mengmeng sent her a message: “I’ve fully recovered.” Bai Xiaoxiao couldn’t help marveling at how she’d said it before Xiaoxiao had even managed to ask.

Was this woman psychic? Or could she tell what Xiaoxiao wanted to ask just by seeing that she was typing?

Still, she needed to explain the situation first.

“Senior Mengmeng, can we leave for the zoo at eight tomorrow morning to investigate the magical beast?”

“No problem. Make sure you dress nicely. If the magical beast doesn’t show up, the zoo will be all ours.”

How could she still be thinking about having fun at a time like this...? Though, she had a point. If the magic failed to gather, the zoo really would be their own private world.

Usually, if magic failed to condense and couldn’t find a suitable vessel, it would disperse into the surrounding space and drift away until it disappeared.

Once both of them had confirmed they were ready, Bai Xiaoxiao felt a little more at ease. Having two friends with her on the investigation would at least make her feel safer.

It was a shame she still had so little combat experience. Her magic was A-Rank, but in a real fight, her only real advantage was her strong attack power.

Her regular training was pretty halfhearted, too. At this rate, who knew how long it would take her to bring out her full strength?
