Back in her room, Bai Xiaoxiao lay on the bed, staring blankly at the white ceiling.

Assets worth over a hundred million, earning tens of thousands in interest every day...

Li Xinghe’s words kept echoing in her ears. She risked her life fighting monsters and only made a little over a hundred thousand a month. Sure, she already had more than enough to live comfortably, but compared to the truly rich, she still fell far short.

Feeling thoroughly miserable, she picked up her pillow and covered her face with it, still turning over what had just happened in her mind.

No wonder he didn’t go to work and spent all day at home playing games. For the past two days, aside from getting up to cook at mealtimes, he’d just been lazing around at home.

It turned out he had no need to go to work at all. His interest alone brought in tens of thousands a day.

Damn rich people. Damn capitalists!

Her furious little fist sank into the pillow. Bai Xiaoxiao felt more and more miserable, and all she wanted was for the day after tomorrow to hurry up so she could go out with Senior Lu Wanxin and the others.

She shouldn’t have asked that question. Now look—she’d ruined her own mood.

It wasn’t her brother’s fault, of course, but Bai Xiaoxiao just couldn’t quite accept that other people could acquire a fortune so easily while she had to work herself to the bone for hers.

Even the next morning, Bai Xiaoxiao still looked completely drained.

“What’s wrong? Didn’t you sleep well last night?”

Li Xinghe had called Bai Xiaoxiao down for breakfast. When he saw her expression, he was startled, wondering if she’d been kept awake by insomnia the night before.

“Mm... Maybe I didn’t sleep well last night.”

Bai Xiaoxiao gave a casual answer. She was really just feeling down, bothered by how unfair the world seemed.

Why did she have to risk her life fighting monsters, working herself half to death for a little over a hundred thousand a month, while someone else could make tens of thousands in a single day just by leaving their money in the bank?

The gap between them was enormous...

But then she thought about it. Wasn’t all her hard work, secretly protecting ordinary people, meant to let them enjoy the peaceful lives they had now?

If she let jealousy turn into hatred, she’d have it all backward.

Bai Xiaoxiao patted her cheeks to clear her head.

Freshly warmed milk and bread sat on the table, and her brother had even fried two eggs just for her.

His concern was genuine. Maybe she really had been too petty, moping all night over money.

“Why don’t you borrow the pillow from my room? They said it could help with insomnia when I bought it. It’s really comfortable to lie on.”

Seeing that her brother was still looking out for her, Bai Xiaoxiao’s gloom lifted at once. That was right—no matter how rich her brother was, he still cared about her. Didn’t people always say that a brother’s things would belong to his little sister sooner or later, while a little sister’s things would still belong to her?

Once she’d adjusted her mood, she felt a lot happier. Bai Xiaoxiao stopped worrying about the money.

Besides, she’d never be able to spend all the money she had anyway. What difference did a million make compared to a hundred million?

“No need, thanks, big brother. Maybe I just stayed up too late chatting last night. I’ll go to bed earlier tonight and I’ll be fine.”

She made up a convenient excuse, and her brother’s face took on an understanding look.

“Mm, staying up too late chatting can definitely keep you awake.”

Li Xinghe figured it was probably like when he played games. He’d spent plenty of late nights gaming over the past two years, and gradually he’d stopped feeling sleepy at night. His body clock had gotten used to that schedule.

That morning, Bai Xiaoxiao was full after two fried eggs and a glass of milk. Li Xinghe really was a great cook—even plain old fried eggs tasted delicious when he made them.

It had only been two short days, but he’d already won her stomach over.

Bai Xiaoxiao decided to go out and wander around that morning. Staying cooped up at home all day was way too boring.

Besides, her brother always went back to his room after washing the dishes and didn’t talk to her much.

Of course, if Bai Xiaoxiao took the initiative and asked to chat, he probably wouldn’t say no. Who wouldn’t want to talk to an adorable little stepsister-in-waiting who was also an aspiring idol?

“Big brother, I’m thinking of going out to buy a few things in a bit.”

She should let her brother know before heading out. If she suddenly disappeared, people might worry.

“Oh, do you have a lot to buy? Want me to come with you?”

Li Xinghe called back from his room. Bai Xiaoxiao quickly replied, “No, no. It’s just a few little things. I can carry them by myself.”

Since she was going out, she could pick up a few everyday necessities, like clothes she’d need to wash and change regularly, and a cup.

Bai Xiaoxiao considered herself a girl who cared about her appearance. She liked dressing up to look cute, and that was probably one reason Senior Lu Wanxin liked her so much.

After spending quite a while getting ready in her room, she was finally ready to head out.

A little after nine in the morning, Bai Xiaoxiao arrived at the biggest shopping mall in Tianhai City.

Haoyouduo Shopping Center was only four kilometers from home. If Bai Xiaoxiao hadn’t taken the time to dress up, she could’ve gotten there around eight thirty.

The shopping center covered a huge area, but the breeze blowing toward her was nice and cool. The mall kept its air conditioning running all day. Since some elderly people and children liked cooler temperatures, several shady spots had been thoughtfully equipped with multiple air conditioners. People crowded around them to beat the heat.

Even people who lived nearby came here to enjoy the free air conditioning. Seeing everyone smiling and getting along, Bai Xiaoxiao felt genuinely content.

Bai Xiaoxiao was wearing an especially cool, lightweight outfit that day. She had a white baseball cap on, and she’d used a headband to pull her short hair back into a little ponytail. She’d put sunscreen on her face, chest, and bare shoulders.

With a little white skirt to complete the outfit, she stood out even in the crowd. People nearby kept whispering to their companions.

“Whoa, look at that girl! She’s so cute!”

“She really is. So cute.”

Even with her baseball cap pulled low to partially hide her face, her perfect figure and full chest still drew plenty of attention.

Some women passing by couldn’t resist pulling out their phones to take pictures. A few bolder ones even tried to approach her for a photo together, but Bai Xiaoxiao turned them all down.

What a mistake. I should’ve deliberately dressed badly before going out. I really shouldn’t have given in to my vanity.

Next, she had to buy her daily necessities. Bai Xiaoxiao hadn’t known her brother for very long and didn’t want to trouble him too much. She’d been eating his food and staying at his place for the past two days; treating him like a servant on top of that would be going too far.

She quietly used magic to make herself less noticeable. Sure enough, the crowd around her quieted down, and the lecherous gazes fixed on her body disappeared too.

Bai Xiaoxiao headed up to the second floor.

“Hello, how much is this?”

The shelves on either side were packed with all kinds of goods. The first thing Bai Xiaoxiao spotted was a pink hair clip that suited her perfectly. She’d been wearing her butterfly hair clip for a long time, so it’d be nice to change things up once in a while.

“Wow, are you a currently active idol who just debuted? I have to say, you’ve got such great taste! This hair clip is made with...”

The salesgirl kept praising her, until Bai Xiaoxiao started to feel a little embarrassed.

She took the butterfly hair clip off her head and replaced it with the pink one, trimmed with crystals.

She fiddled with it in front of the mirror. It really did suit her style.

Without giving it much thought, Bai Xiaoxiao bought it for the steep price of fifty yuan.

Someone who knew how to bargain—like Li Xinghe—would’ve taken one look and known it was ordinary merchandise worth twenty yuan at most. Unfortunately, Bai Xiaoxiao was inexperienced and had no idea what it should cost.

All she knew was that she’d spent her money on something she liked. That was all.
