Mo Qing listened to System-chan scream hysterically inside her mind, her expression still calm.
【Silly Girl, do you still not get it? Why care about something that never existed in the first place?】
【Mo Qing, shut up! You must not have a heart at all. Are you saying my little sister, who grew up with me in the orphanage, doesn’t exist? And how could my mom not exist? She raised me all by herself, through so much hardship!】
【Then can you describe what your mother looks like?】
Mo Qing’s eyes were dark and unfathomable. The carefree, playful smile faded from her pretty face. She was beautiful, yet the look she wore now sent a chill through anyone who saw it.
【How could I not know what my mom looks like? Mom, she has…】
System-chan suddenly fell silent. It was as if she’d been struck by lightning; for a long time, she couldn’t say a word.
That was right. She didn’t know what the mother who’d been with her for so many years looked like. An inexplicable fear spread through her heart like dark tentacles, slowly shrouding and staining it, though it had once been pure white.
【My foolish system, wake up. This is all just a ridiculous hoax. I don’t have a little sister, and you don’t have a mom. Those are nothing but false memories fabricated by that person. From now on, don’t sleep-talk anymore. Saying things like, “Mom, I miss you so much”—it’s really silly, you know, Silly Girl?】
【Why…? How could this be…? How could this be…? You’re lying… How could this be…?】
System-chan seemed to have crashed. Her trembling voice kept repeating meaningless words.
【The truth is always hard to accept. I didn’t want to tell you this so soon, Silly Girl, but you really are too stupid. You’ve been living like a complete joke.】
Mo Qing murmured to herself. Then she realized her silly System seemed to have shut down emotionally; she’d gone quiet and wasn’t talking to her anymore. Mo Qing pursed her lips, picked up the towel Jiang Qingxue used, and scrubbed herself comfortably as she hummed a little tune, as if she didn’t care about anything she’d just said.
After her bath, Mo Qing realized there wasn’t even a bath towel in Jiang Qingxue’s bathroom, so she calmly walked straight out of the shower.
Jiang Qingxue stared at the expanse of holy light before her. Her eyes widened, and then her face turned bright red in an instant. She hurriedly turned her head away. “Why did you come out without getting dressed?”
“I don’t have any clean clothes to change into.” Mo Qing walked over to the flustered Jiang Qingxue and noticed that the Little White Flower had turned into a Little Red Flower.
“I’ll get you some…” Jiang Qingxue scrambled to her feet. Her face flushed red as she found her white shirt and jeans and shoved them into Mo Qing’s arms. She didn’t dare look at Mo Qing the whole time.
“Are you scared of me, Xue’er?” Mo Qing asked with a smile, making no move to get dressed.
“No. Hurry up and get dressed—you’ll catch a chill.” Jiang Qingxue answered awkwardly. She was so flustered around Mo Qing, like a child caught by an adult after doing something wrong. In fact, once she finished her holiday job, she’d be heading off to university.
“You’re so considerate, Xue’er. You’ll make a wonderful wife someday.” Mo Qing began rustling as she got dressed, but instead of going back into the bathroom, she changed right where she was.
Hearing the rustling, Jiang Qingxue took a deep breath. “I’ll go out to the balcony and bring in the laundry. Then I can take a bath too.”
With that, Jiang Qingxue fled outside and shut the door firmly behind her.
But the next second, she seemed to remember something. She came back, her face flushed, and yanked the curtains shut with a swish before hurrying out again.
Mo Qing froze for a moment, then smiled knowingly.
“She really is a gentle, kind, and delectable Little White Flower. I’m worried I won’t be able to stop myself from gobbling her up in one bite.”
Mo Qing was growing more and more interested in Jiang Qingxue. Living together with her in this cramped little place seemed like a rather fun experience.
