The weather wasn't hot.
Lin Cun'an was sweating buckets, and it had nothing to do with the temperature—even though the sun overhead was blazing.
“Spring? No, wait. It’s ‘December’ right now, but this temperature…”
Lin Cun'an muttered to himself.
And why was there a sun at all? He’d clearly gone downstairs at ‘eleven at night’ to buy snacks at the convenience store.
He’d walked down one clean street, then found himself on another brand-new… clean street.
The scenery had changed a little, but everything was still bathed in gentle sunlight. It didn’t fit the time—‘eleven at night’—at all.
“Where am I? Is this a dream? Wait…”
Lin Cun'an’s thoughts were in complete disarray.
R-right, why not find someone and ask… He quickened his pace, planning to leave this street and ask a passerby what was going on. Maybe the dead of night had suddenly turned to daytime because his body clock was broken. Or maybe it was a sign that… ‘the world was about to end.’
Lin Cun'an reached the corner of the street.
He peeked around the corner. The view was much the same as on the previous two streets: quiet homes, a gentle breeze, a comfortable temperature, everything neat and clean. There wasn’t even any trash tucked away in the nooks and crannies beneath the utility poles.
But at last, he saw people on this street.
Not just one person, either. A whole crowd.
More accurately, ‘two groups of people.’
They were split into two sides.
One side was a boy and a girl.
The other side had far more people—about seven or eight, by Lin Cun'an’s count. Their leader was a man with sun-darkened skin and a loud floral shirt. He’d undone the shirt sleeves, baring his solid chest, and wore a gold chain around his neck as thick as a little finger. His earlobes glittered; he seemed to have pierced them.
And he was a blond punk, to boot.
Behind him were several men around his age. Some held knives; others carried things that looked like golf clubs. You could call them all ‘weapons.’
As for the boy and girl, the boy was small and thin, and he was hiding behind the tall girl.
The girl wore a JK uniform, her long black hair tied in a high ponytail. Her neck was pale and slender as a swan’s. Her lips were pressed tight, and her eyes were wide as she warily watched the blond man before her. Even so, it was plain to see she was a rare ‘beautiful girl.’
The two groups faced off, their glares practically spitting sparks. There was no way Lin Cun'an could just walk up and strike up a conversation.
Huh? Were they about to fight? Lin Cun'an stared, dumbfounded.
Just as Lin Cun'an was caught between going forward and backing away, the blond man spoke first.
“Siyuan Liangxiang, captain of White Hill High School’s Karate Club! You humiliated me in front of the whole country! You’re gonna pay me back double!”
The girl known as ‘Siyuan Liangxiang’ pressed her lips together, then gave what seemed like a scornful smile.
“Is this revenge for the national high school tournament? How pathetic… You really can’t handle losing!”
“You little brat!” The blond man’s face twisted. “I’ll make you regret that!”
With that, the whole group surged toward the slender girl and swung their weapons without mercy!
But Siyuan Liangxiang moved with incredible agility.
The first to attack was someone with a golf club. He swung it down at Siyuan Liangxiang’s head like an ordinary club.
Siyuan Liangxiang shifted to the side, her skirt fluttering.
A knee strike!
It slammed into the golf-club wielder’s stomach with tremendous force. She had far more strength than her build suggested. The man let out a choked “Ugh,” looking like he was about to throw up bile.
Lin Cun'an saw someone sneak around behind Siyuan Liangxiang. The attacker spread his arms, trying to lock her up and stop her from moving.
But Siyuan Liangxiang beat him to it. She swung a fist up, striking the attacker’s nose with the back of her hand. Blood burst from his nose!
She was amazing.
Lin Cun'an had never been much of a delinquent, so he rarely got the chance to watch a fight. Seeing how deftly the girl moved, he couldn’t help thinking that Siyuan Liangxiang was a ‘pro’ at fighting.
But even though the girl could hold off two or three attackers on her own…
“Uwaaah!”
…she couldn’t get to the boy in time.
The blond man hit the boy in the side of the face with just one punch. The boy cried out in pain and staggered backward!
“Bu!!” The girl’s attention immediately wavered with worry. She glanced over, dodged another attack, then sprang several steps toward the boy. “Bu, are you okay?!” She tried to help him up as he curled into a ball like a shrimp.
“Guh…” The boy gritted his teeth, saliva slipping between them. He looked utterly miserable.
“Songyuan Bu?”
The blond man approached with a sneer. “I did find out that you, Siyuan Liangxiang, had a ‘childhood friend,’ but I didn’t expect him to be this useless.”
“Damn you… Don’t come near Bu!” Siyuan Liangxiang stepped in front of the boy.
The blond man and his bruised-up companions slowly closed in, forming a semicircle and forcing the two toward a corner.
From his hiding place at the end of the street, Lin Cun'an could see that Siyuan Liangxiang could take on three opponents at once and was clearly winning. But she couldn’t win easily, and she had no way to stop a fourth attacker from getting through. Besides, there were far more than ‘four’ of them on the blond man’s side.
“Siyuan Liangxiang… I’m gonna make you pay!” The blond man grinned viciously and spread his hands, his fingers wriggling in a lewd way.
“That’s enough!”
Just as the boy and girl were cornered, a muscular man appeared from the other end of the street.
He moved incredibly fast. His words had barely left his mouth before he was behind the blond man, grabbing him by the collar and flinging him away like a little chicken.
Everyone was stunned.
The others, caught off guard, hurriedly charged at the bespectacled, upstanding single guy!
“Hah!”
The bespectacled man shouted, and somehow sent all the punks trying to pin him down flying!
He was incredibly fast. After knocking the punks away, he clenched his fists and punched them square in the face, one by one! Just one punch was enough to send each loudmouthed punk crashing to the ground, unable to get back up!
There were plenty of punks, but with the bespectacled man fighting like that, the outcome was decided in an instant.
By the time the boy, the girl, and Lin Cun'an turned around, it was all over.
The punks were sprawled across the ground. Some were still groaning, while others had passed out cold.
The bespectacled man swept a disdainful gaze over the punks, then walked over to Siyuan Liangxiang with a warm smile and held out his hand. “Are you okay? Can you stand?”
Siyuan Liangxiang blinked, then nodded. “I’m okay… but Bu…”
“I-I’m okay too…” Songyuan Bu tried to force himself to his feet, but his pained expression made it clear he was anything but okay.
“I’m Aiyuan Dahe, a college student who lives nearby.” The bespectacled man smiled and nudged his glasses up. “Don’t worry. I’m here now. Nothing else will happen.”
Like hell nothing was gonna happen!
Clinging to the wall, Lin Cun'an screamed silently in his head. He remembered now!
