Chapter 1: She Couldn’t Understand

Hall Fasius, male.

Born in the year 1015 of the Era of Holy Light.

Nineteen years old. Between 175 and 180 centimeters tall, with a moderate build.

He was the second son of House Fasius, an archducal house whose head held the rank of High General. His father was the supreme commander of the army stationed along the western border of the Papal Dominion.

His mother was the daughter of a great noble house that had stood for a thousand years.

Even in the capital of the Papal Dominion, Hall was considered a thoroughly blue-blooded aristocrat.

Though his handsome appearance had recently made him the subject of endless gossip over his private life, Hall remained one of the captains of the Black Knights Order.

The order had been vigorously built up by the Papal Dominion over the past two decades.

There was a rumor that he would become vice commander before the age of twenty-two, commander by twenty-five, and eventually inherit his father’s position as High General.

But Hall had to step forward and clarify something.

That really was just a rumor.

Because across the various story routes, by the time he turned twenty-two, he had already risen to become commander of the Black Knights Order.

His title was—The Dominion’s Dark Sword.

And at twenty-five…

Well, by the time he was twenty-five, the grass over his grave would probably already stand three yards tall.

That was right. He died in every route without exception.

But his talent was genuinely nothing to scoff at.

In the more extreme heroine routes, he wasn’t merely the commander of the Black Knights Order, the Dominion’s dirty-work specialists.

He even had the air of a mastermind lurking behind the scenes.

Of course, there were also some unorthodox players who used the saintly heroine—sweet, delicate, and adorable—to replenish Hall’s mana.

They fed him theological teachings every day and forcibly rewrote his character.

As a result, Hall kept raising death flags until, in the final decisive battle, he sacrificed himself as a disposable tool for the heroines.

Unfortunately, after returning to his family’s enormous urban estate, which covered tens of thousands of square meters, Hall had no desire to become a mastermind.

Nor did he want to die a heroic death.

On the way home, he kept thinking about how he was supposed to stay alive.

Keeping his distance from the heroines was a given.

But if he stayed too far from the main plot, then whenever one of the heroines ran into trouble, the plot’s twisted logic would make him die before she did through some random accident.

After all, many players had complained that before reaching their bad endings, the game world would somehow spread news that “Hall Fasius is dead.”

Getting close to the heroines was even worse.

An even greater variety of deaths awaited him.

And every one of them was officially recorded.

Was it better to know the exact day he would die?

Or was it better not to know?

“Forget it. I’ll keep my distance for now. The story should still be in its earliest stage. I’ll lie low for a few days and see what happens.”

…

Siman von Braun, female.

Born in the year 1015 of the Era of Holy Light.

Nineteen years old. 169 centimeters tall, weighing ninety-five jin—about 105 pounds.

Her breasts were well-developed, her legs were long, and her figure was shapely. There was nothing to criticize about her appearance or physique.

She was the type who could pull off almost any outfit.

She was the only daughter of House von Braun, an archducal house whose head held the rank of High General. Her father was the commander of the army stationed along the eastern border of the Papal Dominion.

Her mother was the daughter of a great noble house with a thousand years of heritage.

Hall and Siman’s mothers came from the same family.

In theory, that meant the two of them were related by blood, at least to some degree.

Going by their mothers’ positions in the family hierarchy, Siman was Hall’s older cousin.

But going by their dates of birth, she was technically his younger cousin.

Because of that, when they were children, Siman once grabbed Hall by his cravat at a banquet and forced him to call her “Big Sis.”

Back then, Hall was still a cute little boy in a well-fitting suit.

He would put up a token resistance, then sweetly call the more early-developed Siman “Big Sis” to win her favor.

Siman found it quite satisfying.

She had always liked Hall, too, and would grant almost any request he made.

But now…

“That guy used to at least pretend to behave. He’s been a lecher since he was little!”

The female knight was still furious after returning to her family’s estate.

Because every time Hall called her “Big Sis,” he would make some strange request afterward.

What was worse was that Siman had been too young and clueless back then.

She had agreed without really understanding what she was doing.

She had even lifted her skirt for that little pervert to look at…

It was infuriating!

The more Siman thought about it, the angrier she became.

Actually, she wouldn’t have been this angry in the past. She would have simply thought that children knew nothing back then.

But over the past few years, Hall’s reputation in the City of Saint Louis had grown worse and worse.

At every weekend tea party, the noble ladies inevitably brought up how Hall had once flirted with them in one way or another.

That man attracted women everywhere he went!

Of course, at those tea parties, Siman could only distance herself from Hall as his cousin.

“Is he really that desperate for women?”

At first, Siman often wondered if Hall could truly be that shameless.

After all, Hall had never lacked beautiful women around him.

And that was without even counting her.

His elder sister and his younger sister, Lorin, were both stars among the noble ladies of Saint Louis.

He shouldn’t have been the type to flirt with every girl he saw.

But the facts were right in front of her.

She had no choice but to believe them.

What was more, Hall might very well harass Lorin after returning home.

Siman had to protect her cousin and stop her perverted younger cousin from harming her.

That was why she had warned Hall today.

Yet Hall had acted as if her warning meant absolutely nothing to him.

If things continued like this, Lorin would definitely fall victim to him.

No—perhaps she had already fallen victim to Hall without realizing it.

The more Siman thought about it, the angrier she became!

Five years ago, her mother had even asked her, at the age of fourteen, whether she wanted Hall considered as a potential fiancé.

Back then, she had foolishly said yes.

Siman wanted nothing more than to travel back in time and stab herself twice.

What fiancé? What marriage?

After becoming utterly disappointed in Hall, she had decided to devote her entire life to the knightly path and the sword.

Her lifelong goal was to become the Papal Dominion’s [Holy Light Throne].

But as soon as she returned to the family estate, she heard something completely unexpected.

“Good afternoon, Young Miss. Your mother wishes to see you.”

“My mother? What does she want?”

“It seems to concern something very important involving Baron Hall.”

The guard’s words made the blonde female knight’s brows furrow.

Her mother wanted to speak with her about Hall.

It had to be…

She absolutely wasn’t going to marry the Hall of today.

If it came down to it, perhaps she should simply register as a nun and make her debut first.

…

She crossed the garden and the lawn, then followed the cobblestone path to the villa at the rear of the estate.

Only then did Siman sense that something was strange.

Several guards wearing the uniforms of the Inquisition Bureau were stationed inside her family’s estate.

There was even a middle-aged man dressed like an investigator standing by the door, his hands behind his back.

A pair of silver shackles hung from one hand.

When she approached, Siman found the man somewhat familiar.

He seemed to be Yafman, her instructor when she had first joined the White Knights.

The golden cross medal on his arm showed that he possessed the strength of a [Golden Throne of Holy Light]—second only to the Holy Light King’s Throne and the Holy Light Throne.

Siman didn’t understand why people from the Inquisition Bureau had come here.

Still, she decided to enter the villa and ask her mother what was going on.

But the moment she stepped inside, she saw the noblewoman in red sitting there with a solemn expression.

The noblewoman waved to Siman when she saw her.

“You’re back?”

“Mother, why are there people from the Inquisition Bureau outside? Didn’t you call me here to discuss Hall?”

“Yes. They came because they want you to serve as a witness and testify to that child Hall’s crimes.”

The noblewoman’s expression showed clear disgust toward the Inquisition Bureau.

“My nephew is merely fond of having fun. How could he possibly have committed such a serious crime?”

“A witness? Could it be that he…”

Siman wondered whether Hall had gotten some noble lady pregnant and refused to take responsibility.

That was the worst thing she could imagine Hall doing.

But one sentence from her mother instantly froze her in place.

Siman heard her mother say:

“Hah. The Inquisition Bureau claims that child Hall is a spy from the Xia Kingdom. How absurd!”

“What?!”

Siman couldn’t understand.

She was completely stunned.
