Chapter 21: The Overly Indolent Azure Fo

Days passed.

Mulan was still slacking off in the Azure Fox Hall.

Though she’d been living with the three little foxes for a while, she’d quickly grown used to it.

The environment here was lovely. The kits weren’t noisy at all. Snuggling up to sleep with them felt cozy—no strange smells, only a faint, pleasant fragrance.

Azurefox Moyue bathed them daily, so they always smelled fresh and sweet.

Add to that the delicious Violet Crystal Grapes served every day, and Mulan had completely fallen for this place.

But fond as she was of it, she had no intention of staying forever as a lazy fox.

After all, she’d come to the Azure Fox Realm for a reason.

First, she needed to meet the princess.

Where was Qingqiu Zili now?

Just as Mulan pondered this—

a slender figure swaggered into the Azure Fox Hall.

“February! March! April! Big sister’s here to visit you!”

Speak of the devil.

Mulan glanced up. There she was—the familiar silhouette of Qingqiu Zili, the Azure Fox Princess of the Azure Fox Realm.

“Huh? She’s looking perfectly lively now,” Mulan muttered inwardly, unimpressed.

After their talk that night, Zili had seemed utterly withdrawn. Mulan expected gloom—but not this.

Azurefox Moyue stepped forward and greeted her.

“Your Highness, here to play with the little ones again?”

Zili gave a slight nod, her tone notably calmer toward Moyue.

(No wonder—she’d grown up under Moyue’s care.)

“Of course! Even grown-ups should stay close with their little sisters!”

Moyue smiled warmly. “I’m glad you feel that way. Just don’t lead them astray.”

Zili flicked her tail in annoyance, a trace of irritation in her eyes.

“I’m the most outstanding azure fox in the entire realm! I’d never corrupt my sisters. Slander the princess, and face consequences!”

“If that’s what Your Highness believes,” Moyue replied, voice dripping with fond amusement, “then I’ll take your word for it.”

This mischievous princess no longer needed her care.

She now basked in the clan’s adoration—but such indulgence came at a cost: she’d never quite become the poised, elegant princess tradition demanded.

Just then, Zili peeked over Moyue’s shoulder, eyes narrowing in confusion.

One… two… three… *four*?

“Huh? Am I hallucinating? Why’s there an extra little sister?”

She rubbed her eyes. The scene stayed the same.

Moyue looked equally puzzled.

“Didn’t the elders tell you? A few days ago, a three-tailed azure fox—abandoned, orphaned—returned to the Azure Fox Realm. Poor thing.”

Zili’s eyes widened, adorably dumbfounded. “They *never* told me!”

Moyue covered her lips, sighing helplessly. “Oh dear… I’ve let the cat out of the bag.”

She could already picture it: the furious princess storming off to pluck the elders’ tail fur.

(Third Elder really should’ve announced handing Wuyue over to her. Zili’s visits were unpredictable—if warned earlier, she might’ve covered it up. Now? Elders, pray for yourselves.)

Zili shoved revenge thoughts aside and trotted over to the unfamiliar fox, curiosity sparkling in her eyes.

Mulan played dumb, keeping her lazy slouch.

“Hmm…” Zili murmured, unusually thoughtful. “What’s her name? She seems… low-energy.”

“Azurefox Wuyue,” Moyue said gently. “She’s not unwell—just naturally lazy. While February, March, and April zoom around the hall or cling to me for cuddles, Wuyue just… naps. After surviving the outside world, isn’t it okay to relax here? Her laziness means she trusts me.”

Moyue had worried it’d take longer for the little one to settle in.

“What?! That’s outrageous!” Zili’s delicate brows furrowed. Her three tails whipped behind her, nearly cracking the air. “If I find who abandoned her, I’ll make them pay!”

(For all her mischief, Zili was a fiercely protective sister. Blood bound azure foxes together—and she’d welcome any kin… except *that* annoying male fox who’d appeared from nowhere.)

Back to the matter at hand.

Joy bubbled in Zili’s eyes as she gazed at Wuyue.

“Moyue~ So… Wuyue’s my new little sister now?”

Moyue nodded softly. “Yes. She’s younger. By age, you’re the elder sister.”

“Yay~ The princess has another sister!” Zili cheered.

Azure foxes shared a deep, instinctive bond—enough to bridge even non-blood ties.

When Zili was born, she’d been the only kit, lonely for years. Only after February, March, and April arrived did she gain sisters to dote on. Though she’d long outgrown cubhood, she still visited often.

Then Zili froze.

“Eh? *Three tails*?”

Beside her, Moyue lifted the drowsy Mulan and began stroking her fur.

“Wuyue presents as three-tailed. She must’ve matured rapidly in a harsh environment—to reach this stage so young.”

Zili’s pupils trembled—shock, then a flicker of defeat.

“…Even more outstanding than the princess?”

Moyue hid a smile. *Her Highness really does care about that title.*

“But Wuyue hasn’t mastered transformation yet,” Moyue added lightly. “She still can’t compare to our magnificent princess.”

Zili exhaled quietly in relief. “I see~ Wuyue still has room to grow.”

Even the sweetest little sister who steals the spotlight gets a good tail-ruffling from big sis!
