Chapter 36: The Captain’s Surprisingly K

Yet in truth, the anxious Favna spent the entire night without incident.

Nothing happened the next day either.

It was as if Alte had simply forgotten about punishing her.

Before dawn, Favna—having slept poorly—woke from a dream. She tiptoed out of bed and peered through the bedroom door crack toward Alte’s office.

There he was: the captain, slumped over his desk, having slept there all night.

He hadn’t lain down properly for two days straight.

Meanwhile, *she*, the one who’d come to work, had slept soundly… in *his* single bed.

Leaving him with no bed at all.

A trace of guilt and embarrassment flickered in Favna’s chest.

Her drowsiness vanished instantly.

“Hmm… I should get another bed.”

Wasn’t there a Dragon Knight dorm nearby?

Alte had originally suggested she stay there—but the thought of facing those burly Dragon Knights made her choose this room instead.

Lost in thought, Favna slipped outside and headed toward the dorms. By checking which balconies had no laundry hanging, she identified an empty room.

“I’ll take a bed from there.”

After confirming no one was around, she spread her wings, leaped up, and slipped inside.

The Dragon Knight dorms were double rooms, well-kept—even the vacant one was spotless.

“Hmm?”

Favna frowned at the bed’s size. She’d hoped to take two, but this one was huge—easily fit for two people.

*Too bad the storage room back there can’t hold two…*

“Never mind… just one for now.”

Exhausted from last night, she hoisted the heavy bed onto her shoulders. *For a dragon, it’s manageable.*

“Heave-ho~”

She tiptoed the bed back into the storage room—her bedroom—replacing the single bed. Settling onto the soft, spacious mattress, she sighed in bliss.

But moments after closing her eyes…

*Should I move Alte to his own bed? Sleeping at a desk must be awful…*

Yet leaving the single bed in the office felt odd. *Does it have to go in my room?*

After a long internal debate:

“The captain’s actually pretty nice… Maybe let him sleep here?”

Besides… her door lock was broken anyway. *If Alte really meant to take advantage of me, it would’ve happened already.*

So sharing a room? No big deal… *right?*

Action followed thought.

She made up the single bed with Alte’s blanket and quilt, then stepped out, gently shaking his shoulder.

“Um… Alte? Wake up.”

“Mm?”

Bleary and exhausted, he lifted his head drowsily.

“What is it?”

“Sleep on the bed. This isn’t comfortable.”

“Oh… okay.”

Still half-asleep, he let Favna lead him into the girl’s room. Seeing the bed, he habitually lay down—and instantly fell back asleep.

Favna froze.

*That’s MY bed! MY quilt!*

There he was, peacefully sleeping on the bed *she’d* hauled over, clutching *her* quilt.

“Mmph…”

Biting her lip, she reluctantly curled up on Alte’s narrow single bed, wrapping herself tightly in *that eccentric Captain Alte’s* blanket for a quick nap.

Later, Alte woke, blinking in confusion.

*Why am I in a bed? Whose quilt is this?*

It carried a faint, sweet floral scent. Glancing around, realization dawned.

*So I sleepwalked right into her bed…*

*And when did this homebody dragon even move a dorm bed in here?*

“Hmph…”

Not the time to wonder. He’d taken her bed *and* quilt—forcing her under *his* blanket.

A flicker of worry: *Does my blanket smell weird?*

But seeing Favna’s peaceful, sleeping face eased his mind.

*Still… she belongs on the big bed.*

He lifted her in a princess carry.

Soft. Light. And despite being a homebody, she carried a clean, comforting scent.

*Ahem… Why am I acting like a creep?*

He’d almost wanted to sniff her. *Just a fleeting thought.*

After tucking her in, he washed up and left the room.

A knock came at the office door.

Alte set down his documents. “Come in—the door’s unlocked.”

Abel shivered in, brushing rain from his shoulders. “Brr… Cold *this* early this year?”

“So why brave the cold to visit *me*?”

“To hang out.”

Alte sighed. Abel hated seeing friends lonely—he always dropped by. Today was no different.

“…Still warmer in here.”

Watching Abel lounge comfortably, Alte raised an eyebrow. “Hey~ Shouldn’t you be with your wife?”

“She got home late last night… still sleeping.” Abel rubbed his hands, eyeing the tidy office. “Honestly? This place is so clean—I’m tempted to bring her here too.”

Alte shot him a flat look.

“If you turn my office into your dating spot? I’ll hang myself right at the door. For dramatic effect.”
