Chapter 32: Gathering

“Why are you so shocked? Is there something wrong with that?” Xu Qianqian blinked very seriously. “Spending a few ten-thousand to keep someone who's warm and can move around is such a bargain. I'd definitely hug them every day and rub against them.”

“...”

So the “keeping” she meant was just using someone as a body pillow? Right. I really shouldn't have tried to use normal logic on an idiot's train of thought.

“If you like body pillows, go buy one yourself. Don't use people as pillows.” I stretched my tired limbs. “Sleep time. I'm exhausted.”

I was seriously wiped out today. This body was weak to begin with. I only burst out for a dozen seconds or so, and now I was so tired I could barely even lift my arms.

Zzz

Mmm...

My head felt heavy. My arms ached, and my calves were sore too.

I knew what this was. Back when I was a guy, I'd had similar experiences before—but only after PE class, after doing two laps of frog jumps around the track.

Overworked muscles. Lactic acid breaking down in the muscles as they recovered energy. That was obviously what I was dealing with now. But the problem was, I hadn't done any long-distance running or frog jumps.

At most, I'd jumped up and stabbed hard into someone's hand once, then carried a little loli and ran.

I turned over on the bed and accidentally pressed down on my arm. It hurt so much my eyes almost watered.

“Hiss... this feels awful.”

I lay back on the pillow and thought it over carefully. I really hadn't done any long, intense exercise yesterday, but that burst had definitely been too much. Logically speaking, how could a petite legal loli have any chance of carrying a little loli who was only a tiny bit shorter than herself? Never mind carrying her while running for quite a distance.

“So that's it. This counts as explosive fatigue, huh?”

I tried a few times, but I couldn't even climb up. In the end, all I could do was helplessly grab my phone and text Qin Ning.

“Dear Boss Qin, I'm stuck in bed and can't get up. I don't have any strength at all, and all my limbs are sore. I can't come in today. Finals start tomorrow, so I'll only be able to come again on the day the shop opens.”

Qin Ning's reply was only one short sentence—

“With that palm-sized little body of yours, you still wanted to play hero? Serves you right.”

Hmph. If I hadn't played hero, little loli Xu Wei would've fallen into evil hands! I puffed out my cheeks, turned my head, and went back to sleep.

In the end, I spent most of the day sleeping in the dorm. Even worse, because I'd slept too long, I felt even weaker when I woke up. I could only ask Xu Qianqian to bring me back a boxed meal.

“What exactly happened between you and your boss yesterday? You can't even get out of bed today!” Xu Qianqian's eyes went wide. “Student Su Xiaoxi, even though we're college students, we... we still have to respect ourselves!”

I silently ate my green pepper fried rice and couldn't be bothered with this idiot. Heaven knew what she was imagining. But I was sure of one thing—what she was thinking and what I understood were definitely not the same.

I set down my chopsticks and took a sip of water. Then I noticed Xu Qianqian was still leaning beside me, staring at me eagerly.

“What are you looking at me for? Finals start tomorrow,” I asked her. “Are you confident?”

“No.” Xu Qianqian was very honest.

“Then aren't you going to cram at the last minute?”

“Oh, right!”

Just like that, I fooled her into leaving. I finished my meal in small bites, then lay back on the bed in complete comfort.

Ah, this kind of life was way too comfortable. No wonder everyone wanted to get sick when they were little.

This was absolutely the laziest day I'd had in both my previous life and this one combined. Finals arrived right on schedule. For me, someone who had already been through them once before, and in the exact same place, it all felt as easy as a casual stroll.

After finishing my papers, I didn't hand them in early. I just sat in my seat and admired the despairing expressions of the other students in the exam room. Enjoying other people's misfortune was undoubtedly one of life's great pleasures, and that happiness lasted a full three days.

As soon as the last exam ended, Xu Qianqian came to find me at once and wrapped herself around my arm.

...Ah, she's way too close. Xu Qianqian's Miss Rabbit.

“You promised that day. You're definitely coming to the club gathering today!” Xu Qianqian glared at me with reddened eyes, looking utterly aggrieved. “You absolutely can't bail.”

Don't make it sound like I was going to bail in the first place. Am I really that untrustworthy?

“Alright, alright. I was already planning to go.” I struggled to free myself. “Lead the way.”
