After Nangong Ruihui was born, Nangong Yao decided he didn’t want any more children. She was already the fifth girl born into the family. He’d given up. Perhaps the Nangong Clan was simply destined to have no sons.
Nangong Yao was deeply depressed about it, too. He always felt there had to be something wrong with his genes. Maybe his Y chromosome had been deleted. Who could say?
Nangong Ruihui was the youngest girl in the family. From childhood, her older sisters had adored her—so much that it bordered on spoiling her.
Whenever there was something delicious, Nangong Ruihui got the first bite. Whenever they went out to play, they always took her along.
Nangong Ruihui only had to do one thing: wear relatively gender-neutral clothes and let her sisters pretend their dream of having a little brother had come true.
That had a lot to do with the fact that her personality later turned out to be anything but delicate.
“Little Cai and Little Qian? They’re incredibly busy! We were supposed to come see you together, but then they called us on video and said they couldn’t make it. What a pair of hypocrites!” Nangong Ling rolled her eyes.
“Ling-jie, don’t say that. I may be closer to you two, but Big Sis Cai and Big Sis Qian have always treated me well, too. They’re probably just busy…”
It was already beyond Nangong Ruihui’s expectations that two of her sisters had come. She didn’t want them arguing because of her.
“Third Sis, Ruihui doesn’t appreciate us? I put my work on hold, and you even postponed your graduate-school entrance exam. I think we should just leave, then. Sigh~”
Nangong Ling lowered the stocking-clad leg she’d been bracing beside Mu Yao and turned as if to leave.
Nangong Jing stood up and shook her head in disappointment.
“Ruihui, you need to understand that no one in the Nangong Clan is ever idle. Jing-jie came all this way for nothing today.”
“I’m sorry! Ling-jie, come back! Jing-jie, don’t leave either!”
Nangong Ruihui had miscalculated. She’d thought her two sisters’ vacations had simply happened to overlap.
She hadn’t expected them to squeeze her visit into their already packed schedules. That made it all the more precious.
Nangong Ling stopped walking. Nangong Jing stopped, too.
All their unspoken feelings condensed into a single sentence—
“Boys really are meant to be spoiled!”
“Mua~”
“Chu~”
A lipstick mark and a lip balm mark were successfully planted on Nangong Ruihui’s face.
She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. It seemed her sisters had never truly intended to leave. They’d only been waiting for her to beg them to stay.
Both sisters had heard about Nangong Ruihui disguising herself as a boy to enter an elite high school.
Apparently, the clan had a marriage contract with the once-glorious Mu Clan. And the other party was a girl.
Now it seemed the rumors were true.
“That’s more like it. Your Jing-jie and I didn’t spoil you for nothing. Other boys dream of having a gentle, beautiful older sister. You have four of them at once, and you’re still not satisfied?” Nangong Ling asked.
“Of course I’m satisfied. I’m extremely satisfied~” Nangong Ruihui forced a smile.
She wasn’t actually a boy. When she was little, she had wanted an older brother. But she didn’t feel that way anymore.
Maybe she’d simply grown up.
“Ling-jie, don’t focus only on Ruihui. You can’t neglect her fiancée, can you~?” Nangong Jing reminded her, her twin tails swaying.
“Oh, right, right. I almost forgot we have another cutie here.”
With that, Nangong Ling once again cornered the trembling, speechless Mu Yao with her leg.
*Not bad-looking. Big eyes, fair and rosy skin, and her height matches our Ruihui pretty well.*
*I approve of this marriage!*
Mu Yao had made an excellent first impression on Nangong Ling. She had already received her preliminary approval.
As expected of a child from the Mu Clan.
She and the other sisters couldn’t stay by Nangong Ruihui’s side forever. So having a marriage partner was a good thing.
It was just a shame that the partner was a girl.
On the surface, a sham marriage to preserve the Nangong Clan’s reputation would be acceptable. But if they were truly going to live together in the future, a boy would still be better.
No matter how important the clan’s reputation was, it could never matter more than Nangong Ruihui’s happiness.
If their father had such an idea, she would be the first to stand up and oppose it.
Even if the partner really were a boy, that wouldn’t stop the sisters from giving Nangong Ruihui all their extra love.
They just had to train him properly. Even after he married her someday, he couldn’t be allowed to take away their chances to see Nangong Ruihui.
Actually, the ideal situation would be for the girl before her to be a boy—
A boy disguised as a girl, the exact opposite of Nangong Ruihui.
That way, Nangong Ruihui might not even have to take off her boy’s clothes…
She was overthinking it.
“Hey, what’s your name?” Nangong Ling lifted Mu Yao’s chin and asked.
“Mu Yao…”
Mu Yao was now certain Nangong Ling was his real sister in spirit.
Nangong Ruihui liked lifting his chin, sure. But now even Nangong Ling was doing the same thing.
“Hm… Mu Yao… Wait. You seem familiar.” Nangong Ling fell into thought.
“Ling-jie, can I call you that? This should be the first time we’ve met…”
“Completely wrong! I remember now! I’ve been to the Mu Clan before. I even helped bathe you!”
The moment Nangong Ling said that, Mu Yao’s heart jumped into his throat.
If she was telling the truth, and bathing meant taking off his clothes, then wouldn’t his gender have been exposed?
He was doomed…
“You probably don’t remember. You were three, and I was nine. Your Uncle Mu even specially entertained me and asked me to bathe you,” Nangong Ling explained.
“This…”
Mu Yao had never expected that his father—who had vanished from his life as completely as if he’d evaporated—could have been such a creep.
He’d actually asked a girl to bathe his son. Seriously.
“It was summer. Ruihui and I went to your house as guests, and I happened to bathe both of you together. But you were really shy. You insisted on washing yourself and wouldn’t take off your underwear until I walked away.”
“I saw the two of you happily splashing water at each other, so I left you alone.” Nangong Ling’s memories returned all at once.
When he was three, he’d bathed in the same basin as Nangong Ruihui…
Mu Yao desperately tried to remember, but he couldn’t recall anything about it.
It didn’t matter, anyway. They had both been boys.
So he’d already had a sense of his own masculinity at the age of three. He’d even known to feel shy around girls.
Mu Yao secretly congratulated himself and hoped Nangong Ruihui would never find out. Otherwise, she might think she’d taken a bath with him when he was a girl.
Thankfully, it was best that no one knew he was a boy.
The fewer people who knew, the safer he was. Aside from his family, only a handful of employees from the companies he worked with knew the truth.
Meanwhile, on the other side—
“You’ve grown taller without even realizing it. Ruihui, you’re almost taller than your sister now~” Nangong Jing gently patted Nangong Ruihui’s head, looking pleasantly surprised.
“I’m a boy, you know, Jing-jie,” Nangong Ruihui said deliberately.
How could she not be tall while wearing shoes with five-centimeter lifts?
“Haha, I almost forgot.” Nangong Jing took Nangong Ruihui’s hand and continued, “From now on, you have to act spoiled with me, too. I want to keep you all to myself. I want to tempt you~”
“Jing-jie, you should get a boyfriend. Even if you don’t have one, don’t set your sights on me!”
“No way! My handsome little brother makes it impossible for my heart to stop racing~”
Nangong Ruihui: “…”
Ever since she learned that she had older sisters, Nangong Ruihui had thought the four of them were incredible.
They were definitely sisters straight out of a manga.
What normal sisters were this obsessed with their little brother?
