Chapter 5: Brimming with Hope
update icon Updated at 2026/4/29 18:08:00

Yingshengya Academy had nine student dorm buildings in total—six for girls, three for boys.

The allocation was perfectly balanced. Though female students vastly outnumbered males (fewer than two thousand boys campus-wide), three buildings were more than enough.

Room 305, Building 2—

"I wonder if Zhou Yuan’s inside… Would it be rude to just walk in?"

Mu Yao hesitated outside his dorm door. He should’ve realized it sooner: since Principal Long Yue assigned him to room with Zhou Yuan, it *had* to be the girls’ dorm. Putting Zhou Yuan in the boys’ dorm? Total chaos.

Key halfway in the lock, he pulled back. "Zhou Yuan? You in there?"

"Who is it? Mu Yao? Come on in! I’m showering—can’t open the door. Forgot your key? Just wait a sec, I’ll be out!"

Her muffled voice drifted through the door.

"Oh, I’m coming in—wait, you’re *showering*?!" Mu Yao froze mid-step.

Young boys imagine things. Even the innocent Mu Yao wasn’t immune—not malice, just an uncontrollable flicker of thought: Zhou Yuan under the spray…

He shook his head hard. *Splash cold water on your face!* How could steam-wreathed skin and glistening droplets haunt his mind? Stray thoughts like that betrayed her trust!

He stepped one foot inside, peering left and right. Only after confirming Zhou Yuan wasn’t emerging half-dressed did he relax. First day at Yingshengya? No mistakes.

"Ooh—lollipops! Can I have one from your bed, Zhou Yuan~?" He’d spotted his favorite. If not for the chaotic start of term, he’d have stocked up himself.

Sweetness was, after all, the most wonderful taste in the world~

"Go ahead. I bought them for you. I don’t like lollipops—they’re all yours." The shower water cut off abruptly.

"Touched!"

*'Such a kid,'* Zhou Yuan thought, toweling off.

The dorm was just right for two: private combined shower-restroom, curtains, AC—everything essential.

Mu Yao was thrilled. Way better than his old school, where one dusty ceiling fan (non-manual!) choked the whole dorm. Surviving that felt like spiritual training.

Zhou Yuan stepped out wrapped only in a towel. Mu Yao caught a faint hint of cleavage—and instantly dropped his gaze.

*Don’t look down.* Bare feet were dangerously cute too. He squeezed his eyes shut.

Zhou Yuan sat beside him, hand resting on his shoulder. "Aww, shy? Hahaha~ Never took you for the pure-hearted type!"

"It’s impolite to look before you’re dressed."

"Fine, fine, I’ll dress! Must you be *this* serious? Goodness—you’re more modest than *me*, a girl!"

Five minutes later, Zhou Yuan stood before him in a violet dress. Only then did Mu Yao open his eyes.

"I’ll pay you back for this lollipop~" He licked the red-and-white swirl.

"Told you—they’re yours. I memorized your snack preferences from your artist profile. I’ll restock when they’re gone~"

"Hehe, no holding back then~ Oh! Do you know about the 'Elder Sister'?" Mu Yao recalled Nangong Ruihui’s cafeteria words.

"Of course. Yingshengya’s undisputed goddess. How’d *you* hear about her on day one?"

"Ruihui told me."

"*That* arrogant student council president? Why? Don’t tell me he’s pushing you to run for 'Elder Sister'! Good grief—you know how insane it is to top three thousand students? Even Leji Entertainment doesn’t demand that!"

Zhou Yuan’s tone sharpened. As Mu Yao’s campus guardian, she needed to know everything—especially this.

"You really dislike him…"

"Please~ Don’t lump me with other girls. Yeah, Nangong Ruihui’s handsome, but I prefer your type—you’re way easier to talk to." She waved dismissively.

"'Elder Sister'… Hmph. Ever heard of Lan Xi? The capital’s superstar singer?"

"Sure. Formerly with Leji Entertainment, now at a top capital agency. Career’s blazing—peak fame."

"*She* was Yingshengya’s last 'Elder Sister.' Broke the all-time vote record—88.6%, if I recall."

"*What?!*"

Mu Yao nearly leapt off the bed. *Lan Xi*—the previous 'Elder Sister'? Impossible! Without Zhou Yuan saying it outright, he’d never believe it.

Lan Xi dominated the entire industry: nonstop gigs, film/TV moves, legions of loyal fans.

No wonder 'Elder Sister' wasn’t a title to take lightly. Just comparing himself to Lan Xi made Mu Yao feel like dust. How could he even dream of catching up?

'Long Xueer' had her moment in Jinglan City years ago. Lan Xi? Nationwide sensation *now*. No contest.

"Let me break down 88.6%: boys and girls vote together. Over five thousand students. Each class nominates one candidate."

"22 freshman classes, 20 sophomore, 18 senior—exactly sixty candidates. Minus 2–3% abstentions? The *other fifty-nine* shared under 10% support!"

"After all that… you still want to run for 'Elder Sister'?"

Mu Yao’s brain short-circuited. Like a level-1 newbie challenging a max-geared pay-to-win veteran.

Obviously… no chance.

But—

"I want to run for 'Elder Sister,'" Mu Yao said firmly.

Zhou Yuan blinked in shock. Either he’d lost his mind… or aimed for the stars. Unrealistic? Maybe. But she’d back him anyway.

"Alright!" She slapped her thigh. "This girl’s riding this madness with you!"
